We restarted VEF2 beta with a lot of new features.
First of all, those who complained that double request and independent planning were too difficult, can now enjoy quick mission generation a-la VEF1.

http://66.114.65.249/vov/site/main.htm

Even more radical change is a whole tactical character of VEF battle, with strike against enemy communications, frontline troops, recon and transport missions all affecting various aspects of the combat situation:

http://66.114.65.249/vov/site/TacticalWar.htm

In addition to that, new FAQ contains detailed instructions in pictures:

http://66.114.65.249/vov/site/FAQ.htm

Regretfully, netwings forums are experiencing some problem now, but other than that VEF2 is ready. It is still beta, and we'll likely play Stalingrad battle after one week in Lvov still in beta mode to help find any possible bug.

After that the second round of the war will begin.

And here are direct links to combat situation maps after first mission:

Current beta settings are FR+speedbar. Final setting will depend on what most of participants will prefer.

Why not?

I would really hope that the PL is kept out.

The reason a lot of the members of my squadron, and many people didn´t want to fly bombers in a VEF mission is because they would always get "locked-on" and it would jsut be a matter of time untill you were hanging in your chute.

Not to mention, I think it would attract a larger audience, and in most cases more mature.

Regarding warp-fest. VEF is an _optimal_ war. There are always just as many planes as you requested and very limited number of unrelated things. So it may be worse in FB than in IL-2 but it cannot be worse in VEF than in any other competition. Impossible.

Anyway, the patch should improve performance.

Padlock is not even considered currently. The only discussion is about navigation without "GPS".

Sure, if the hate mail isn´t enough, then all the whining on the VEF forums should be /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

On the GPS note, I also hope it is turned off. I can understand how it would be hard for some people to navigate in maps such as Lvov, but flying without it, you really have to watch where you are going, and pay attention even more to your surroundings. Makes wingmen and wingleaders work a lot more to be able to stay together etc.

The realistic navigation gives the axis a nice little advantage. All the german planes have an ADF to follow their waypoints, the allies don't have this system on any plane that I know of. I personally don't care if GPS is on or off. But it does take one of the axis's advantages. As for VEF2 being efficient, it is a little bit better than VOW. But I did notice the briefings were all f*cked up. The side restricting tags in it were screwed up so it turned into a garbled mess. Most of us just tried to make a best guess as to what we were supposed to do.

As we all know, the Soviet Union had too many fighter pilots during WW2. So Stalin's scientists came up with a brillient way to solve this problem. They would make some of their pilots fly British made Hurricanes. The Hurricane was an uber flying coffin. It was designed to maximize pilot kills by providing nothing but fabric and a few wooden spars around the cockpit. This setup prevented the pilot from escaping easily while at the same time not interfering with enemy bullets and shrapnel trying to pass through it. The rest of the Hurricanes structure was designed to ricochet bullets and shrapnel into the cockpit. And thanks to the cockpits superb design, all of them would pass through the cockpit and the pilot inside with little difficulty. Of course the Hurricane's designers didn't stop there. In order for the Hurricane to become a flying coffin, they had to make it easy to shoot. They did this by making the Hurricane the slowest monoplane fighter in use at the time and even gave it a very bulky shape so that it would be easy to spot and hit. The final feature of the Hurricane was its ability to bury or cremate itself. And because it was made of biodegradable materials, the Hurricane was environmentally friendly after it buried itself. Because of these brillient features, the Hurricane was a perfect flying coffin and helped the Soviets solve the pilot surplus they were suffering.

GPS is currently out. The rest depends only on what participants want.

Regarding VEF, etc, I recycle the code http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I tested a concept of moving frontline in VEF1 and this is why it is implemented in FB now - and in this particular form.

VEF2 is different from VEF1 because I think it is interesting to implement detailed tactical level and see how it will work, I hope it is interesting not only for me.

If by some reason the concept won't work, it is also intersting http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. I must say, that I like what we have now, and it is not very different from VEF1 which was a huge success, It offers some optional depth and optional choice that can be ignored if it is not interesting. The question is if people will like it.

The problem with briefings being screwed up was reported. But it is not briefings problem, they are perfect if you download them properly. It has something to do with the way host got them, it seems. We are investigating it.

BTW one of advantages of VEF2 is that you can have briefings on all supported in FB languages, although German and French translations are not ready yet.

I know that the P-39 has one. I've been flying LW for a while now so I don't know about the other US-built aircraft.
