Lock On Modern Air Combat or Falcon 4 are the two best jet sims out there. LOMAC has a better flight model than Falcon, but Falcon has the avionics and all that technical stuff modeled as good as it can get.

Depends largely on what you are looking for.

I recommend Falcon4: Allied Forces for the best avionics and campaign system available. You can use the sophisticated air and ground mode radar and the weapon systems are modelled equally detailed.
You should bring a bit of time, though, to work yourself into the sim. F4 is also a bit dated, at least concerning graphics. Though the AlliedForces-Version has largely improved visual effects, the core system is still the same, utilizing DirectX7.
F4 only simulates the F16-Falcon (C-Block52 and another version, Block 48 IIRC) - other cockpits are available in free mods, though.

A far more advanced graphics engine is implemented in LockOn:Modern Air Combat. The avionics are a lot more easy to control, though and the campaign system is worse than simple. It simulates very excellent, though, the flight-characteristics of the impemented planes, reaching from the A10 and Su25 on the groundpounder-side to the highly advanced Su27 and Su33. The Mig29 is implemented in A and C Versions.
The basic version was a bit buggy, but with the patches even online-playing was quit fun. There is a downloadable pay-for-addon available, that brings a completely revolutionary flight-physics for the added Su25U. It's no doubt the most sophisticated flight-physics available for a PC-game, but for the downside every other plane uses only a slightly upgraded version of the original physics.
The next Addon is called Black Shark and adds the Kamov Ka-50 Attack-Helo, with even better physics, native 6DOF-support and extremely detailed avionics.

Hope it helps?

Get both Lock-On and Falcon 4:Allied Force and you will decide pretty quickly which one you like. They are both good for their own reasons as stated above: LOMAC is very pretty, technically accurate, but has no soul.

Falcon has old school graphics but lots of atmosphere and immersion. It is technically complex and challenging. They are both well worth playing if you have the time.

Hi there,

As james-ander said, try both and see what suits your style better. I actually play both and like both, but many punters seem to have strong preferences one way or the other (it's debated often on the forums, with a bit of flaming sometimes!)

Or, to put it another way, I'm http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif about it (appreciating the good points of both), but some seem to get quite http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif on the subject!

Another Good Jet sim is Strike Fighters Project 1 and its successor Wings Over Vietnam. They feature Old school jets like the F-4, A-4, F-100, and F-105. Wings Over Vietnam even has Carrier Ops.

I'd have to agree with Capt.LoneRanger's points on both sims. Both have their pluses and minuses but both are very good sims and I'm sure you would enjoy either one or both if your budget allows.

Yep. What james_ander said is right on. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Lock On is a gorgeous, gorgeous sim. It's almost worth flying just for the sight seeing. If you have the hardware, this is a dream for eye candy lovers. But the fighting does seem... thin. Mind you, it has an A-10 and just that makes it worth buying. Besides, the game sells for about $10 now.

Falcon 4:Allied Force, on the other hand, is a technical masterpiece of warfare and flight simulation with "lousy" graphics. The depth of F4 is beyond belief, and it can be very immersive. Flying Wild Weasel missions in F4 is as heart thumping as any FPS game, and the 1v1 dogfighting, guns only, is pure action on par with the best IL2 dogfights. Well, almost.

Don't be scared off by F4's 700 page manual. You only need to read about 400 pages to really understand the game. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif (Actually, you can be up and fying in minutes if you want.)

What we need is F4 with Lock On grahics. That would be the holy grail of jet sims. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Lock On has an expansion pack currently out that adds the Su-25T and improves the Russian avionics, and an expansion pack coming that will add the Ka-50 Hokum (or some variant, I forget) and maybe a clickable cockpit.

Both use Starforce, if that makes a difference to you. The original release is Starforce-free, at least in the States. My biggest problem with the sim is the lack of a clickable cockpit; the avionics aren't as complex as in Falcon, but require you to remember FAR more buttons. The offline campaign game is dismal, too, which relegates Lock On to a mainly online sim.

Falcon 4: Allied Force has much better avionics modelling and the best campaign to ever grace a flight simulator. The graphics are okayish (better if you buy the third party terrain textures), but they get the job done. The sim uses mainly 2D cockpits, though, and the 3D cockpits are nearly useless, so beware if you have TrackIR.

Falcon 4: AF is a one plane sim, and will stay that way. It's not possible to fly other planes the way you could in the old Falcon 4 mods. I never saw the appeal, anyway, since everything used F-16 avionics.

The last Korean war sim that I know of is "Mig Alley". Its rather dated and you probably have a hard time finding a copy.

the strike fighter and wings over nam sims can be mixed...you can take stuff from one and use it in another. take a look ar4ound at the adon stuff for it. endless planes and ships, vehicles, cmpns from korea to iran; lots of user made adons, and the community has it really well organized. its by far the most expandable one out there. not as advanced as lock on, but still looks excellent.

Strike Fighers (& wings over 'nam), Falcon 4.0:Allied Forces and Lock On: Modern Air Combat are the choices at the moment. There's other stuff but it's all so old that there's no comparison.

Falcon 4.0 and Strike Fighters are not that new either but have both been recently re-released or had add-ons with improvements that make them worthwhile. LockOn is the most recent jet sim out and though it has some issues seems to do alright if properly patched up.

Should be out *sometime* in the end of 06, and it's very promising (mother of all jet combat sims?)

I'll throw in a plug for Janes F/A-18. Carrier ops, very strong community, Team Super Hornet (TSH) is now up to its third version of mods. Lots of campaigns, excellent training missions. Landing on the carrier manually at night is maybe the most demanding moment ever in a sim.

Agree with Breeze above if you can still get hold of a copy of Janes FA/18.

It's a sort of cross between F4 and Lock on, although graphically it's no Lock it's still pretty immersive and it flies on todays systems. Avionics are modelled in good detail,, and as already said try landing an F18 on the carrier at night,,,, heheeh http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
