A calculator to compute the good consumption can be found at:

https://nihoel.github.io/Anno1800Calculator/
Note: This is a private work, not endorsed by Ubisoft Blue Byte in any way.

The help menu can be accessed via the "?" in the right upper corner.
Use the calculator to get the ratio for production buildings as well as the number of production chains to build.

Important differences to previous Anno games

All buildings must be connected to the harbour
The length of the road between to buildings (warehouse, factory) determines whether they can send carts to each other
There is no slider to regulate the tax income
Factories bring the goods to the next one (instead of fetching them from the previous one)
Every population tier has its own type of workforce, so be careful when leveling up that you always have enough workforce
A house can be upgraded when all inhabitants have moved in.
Inhabitants have basic needs and luxury needs. From the first one you gain more inhabitants, the latter one gives you more money.

Selecting an island

A starting island should have the following fertilities: potatoes, wheat, pepper, furs, and optionally hop.
A starting island should have the following resources: 2x iron and 2x clay
The following resources / fertilities are not accessible in the Beta: Grapes, Lime, Zinc, Copper, Caoutchouc, Cocoa, Pearls, Saltpeter, Gold

Farmers

Start with a market place, 3x lumberjacks’ huts, and 3x sawmills. Spend the rest for houses (Build them not too far away)
Build the productions chains for fish, clothes, and Schnapps
Build a fire station (covering both the city and the production buildings) and a pub as soon as you can afford it.
Upgrade to workers as soon as possible.
Make sure that all buildings are reached by fire stations

Workers

When you have at least 100 workers and +200 income you can start a clay production. Otherwise build and upgrade more farmers.
The steel production is very resource intense (400 workers and 250 credits upkeep), build the production chains for bread and sausages first. Start with steel only when you have an income of at least +500.
Beer is optional, if your credit balance is small - build it; if you want to progress quickly, just ignore it; the same applies to the church (only build it if your population is very unhappy)
Build police stations to prevent riots

Artisans

Start the expedition for the new world as soon as it appears; your flagship + schnapps / bread + steel beams + timer are enough
Window production is rather expensive. You should have +1000 Credits balance before setting it up.
Focus on producing cotton, meanwhile there is enough time to set up your European city
It is crucial to permanently supply them with bread, sausages, and soap at 100%. Otherwise you will notice sever drops in income and workforce. In those situations, you should prevent your workers from consuming those goods.

New World

Required resources and fertilities: bananas(!), clay, sugar, coffee, maize, cotton
Shipping goods from Europe (sewing machines, beer) is not worth the effort
A route between two sessions takes at least 10 min for 1 cycle, so plan enough storage capacities on the islands and the ship (my tip: 1 route, 1 product, 1 4-slot-ship)

General Tips

Quests are the best source of money in the beginning.
Even your flagship can sink a frigate
Don't worry if you lose your flagship, you can almost instantly re-buy it for 5000 credits (and a quest gives you > 10000 credits) -> military quests possible in the beginning.
Use charter routes to transport single goods.
Buy shares from islands inhabited by easy AI. That gives you a good income bonus later on and they won't declare war on you for that (unlike more difficult AI).
It is not recommended to sell building materials (you will need them later on, the income you gain is quite small). Rather build harbor depots.
Selling war ships is a lucrative business (~6000 Credits for production, but 21.000 Credits for sale)

Awesome work. I wonder when the first calculator would pop up, now i dont have to create an excel file myself.

May i inquire how you obtained the values? e.g. did you measure it ingame or did you mine some data in the beta client? (e.g. a .txt file or that sort)

--->do those values need further review?

About the tips are those yours or did you copy from some manuels? (if the latter i dont think bluebyte is gonna be happy about it, so you should delete it).

You can send me a message, if the values do not correspond to what you experience during gameplay. But don't waste your valuable time with Anno 1800 to check every single one.

Hello Sauerbraten,

thank you very much for this great piece of work! :)
I just noticed a minor "mistake", as one of the hints you listed seems to be incomplete:

Important differences to previous Anno games
[...]

The radius influence of a building (warehouse, factory) is not determined by

...By what? ;)

Best regards
and thanks again!

I've never played an Anno game. I would hope this sort of thing is built in. The game appears to be lacking a lot of the basic information you need if you want depth and complexity. So far, it's just toss down a lot of stuff and build more of whatever if it looks like you need it. The planning aspect where you judge what you should have or require as you progress is really missing.

First impression is meh. After an hour or two I should be sucked in. So far it's pretty boring.

The first expedition should become available when you reach artisans.

How and where did you buy your flagship again ? I didn't find anywhere how to do that.

All these tips should find there way into the main game.
Loadign screens are a good way but the ingame helper and tooltips are also a great way

In the top middle of the screen, next to the island name.
