Man i've been waiting for a good jet fighter game. So i'm definatley getting lomac...Sure you dont really have to calculate all the crap for like firing ahead of the aircraft and stuff with just guns since you have missiles that lock on to the target...its still awsome watching the missile fly in after them and totally wasting them...and you can still do dogfights with guns and stuff, its just more fast paced. Plus...i have a saitek X45 and i've been waiting to use the little fire button under the cover...locking on to the target lifting that up and firing it...reminds me of top gun...man i cant wait. I dont see what the deal is with ya'll not liking jet fighter simulators

I've noticed the air of exclusionism on these boards too. I say that if you're a dedicated virtual pilot, then how can you resist the curiosity of knowing what jets are like? And if you believe that modern planes have a kill enemy button, you've been watching too much History Channel. Fact is there is a lot of skill in jet combat and it's not that different from WWII, the same principals and maneuvers are used.

From what I understand all jets also have guns and missles are for easy kills but if you get on ones tail use the guns!!

That said I dont think the manifold pressure is right in the turbine /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You guys dont know multiplayer in jets then....It always comes down to guns and the ingress to the fight also requires a higher amount of knoledge than just "go really high so you can run away" or going into it Air-quake style...

Also dodgeing SAMs and flying a lowlevel ingress while AVOIDING Air to air threats is alot more challenging then FB imo.

It gets even more complicated when you think about TOT (time over target) and planning this with other people (in COOP) over the internet.

So it isnt..."hit this button and then that one then your enemy will blow up" its not that easy...at least most of the time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Jet sims have some nice features that WW1 and WW2 sims don't. One of them is the ability to climb above 3000m in about 5 seconds instead of 5 minutes /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif . Anyways, they are fairly complicated. Much more so than in FB where you just fly high and waste someone when they arn't looking.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

I like jet sims but I was never great at it. I used to get killed in Falcon 4 every time I turned around. By planes and SAMs. That's the only reason I won't play them anymore, I suck at it too much!!!

You ever try Flanker 2.x? The passive radar guided missles in it were simply impossible to spoof. Kinda made the "obsolete" Alamo's and Sparrow's super killers. Too bad they didn't include any radar guided missles in the LO-MAC demo so we could see if that bug was still there.

I can't resist watching my 30mms tear the enemy a/c to pieces, small explosions around the cockpit area, then a wing falling off etc etc.
I played F-16 fighting falcon on my Atari ST for hundreds of hours but modern combat does not have enough real life examples (thankfully)to inspire me for combat more than WWII airfighting.

If you want the best of both worlds, ask for a KOREAN WAR sim!!!!

Right on! Really any 1960's or earlier scenario should give you some good action without fire-and-forget missiles. The missiles they had back then were finicky and you had to use them right. No AWACS. No JSTARS. No all aspect BVR missiles.

Strike Fighters Project 1 tried to do that kind of a sim, but it was a spectactular flop. Makes LOMAC look really fantastic in comparison.

Yep, imagine yourself in a damaged Panther trying to find again the deck of the Bon Homme Richard in a bad Korean winter day (without any cheat icons). Or in a MiG-15 approaching a box of B-29's with some hundreds of 12,7's pointing at you. Or in a Tigercat chasing some U-2's just above the ground. Or in an AT-6 marking targets with smoke rockets for the Invader guys. Or in a Thunderjet making air-air refuelling with a KB-29. Or in a La-9 dogfighting against some Corsairs, Mustangs, Seafire 47's. Or in a Meteor or a Firefly attacking strong AA defences with rockets. Or an IL-10 attacking Pershing or Chaffee tanks. Or in a Skynight, a Starfire or a Twin-Mustang chasing for intruding Tu-2's.....

Frankly, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND why the greatness of a Korean Conflict sim is not an evidence for everybody!!!!

I can report to you that the flares / chaff in Lomac do work! Flew 2 flights just to test it and the second you pop them (given your making the right knd of turn( the missle gets spoofed and follows them. The wonder missles from Flanker are no more, and the guns work against the mirage just fine.

Korea is a blast. Loved Mig Alley, that sim was great /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif . A new Korean war sim would be great but a fighter is a fighter. Doesn't matter if it is a Fokker E.III or a Su-33 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif .

Yes, Korea would be great, but we'll have the same problem as now in FB. Late prop fighters are not a match for early jets. Even the underpowered Me-262 simply clears the dogfighting rooms the moment they are allowed. The ideea that we'll have mixt rooms with props and jets is not realistic. Everybody will choose the jets, if they do not want to be a sitting duck.

No, props like Mustangs, Corsair, Skyraiders, Seafires, Fireflies were used as ground-attack aircrafts, not against jet fighters.

I'd get a jet game too, but I'd never say it impacted me as much as the original IL2 did.

I know that very well, problem is that people still think that prop fighters can handle early jets.
