but now i have the river skin and its not working right. it has tomuch reflection of the sun (even in the shadow places) and the waves are not following the road. it all going the same direction like the wind is blowing it the wrong way.

http://draysk.webs.com/aztecwaterbug.jpg

i try'd to get another skin but only the water_a.mat works and thats all blurry
other skins dont work correctly.
how can i change this water so that i get a nice river like you guys make in singleplayer?

These are MATERIALS, not SKINS http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You'll need to create own .mat of the river and modify it as you want. Open .mat file of the river you like and check its properties. I think it's "Shines Fator" or something like that.

thnx , but now ive made my own material like you said on cojfans but when im trying to choose the .mat i only shows the water inside the .pak file. i try'd setting the path manually but each time it resets itself to my last used material. schould i add my own .mat to the .pak file or is there another way to add my own water material into the editor?

What .pak file? You need to delete map in .pak when you are making modifications...

Seir,

I'm having the same problem as dreeke1989.

What's happening is that we created the .mat file as you explained earlier at COJFANS and placed it in our map folder.

We have not created a .pak for the map yet but when we add the river to the map and go to select the .mat file in our map folder we are unable to get to the map folder.

The default path for selecting the the material seems to be pointing to what appears to be files within a .pak.

If we try to go up a level or navigate to the map folder it will not allow us to. It only lets us go up a couple of folder levels then refuses to go any farther so we cannot get to where our .mat file is to select it.

Hope this is clear.

i rechecked wich .pak and i think we are restricted to data1.pak

Noo, you're doing something wrong but I can't tell what because I have not enough information to help you.

hello again seir , ill try to give you more info about this.

i have created a cs_aztec_river.mat file with notepad with the info you shared on cojfans.
i've put the cs_aztec_river.mat into my docs&settings/cojbib/data/mapsnet/cs_aztec

when i open the road settings i can only choose materials from inside data1.pak

it wont let me go to a folder outside the data1.pak to choose my custom made river material

i try'd setting up the path manually inside the editor but the path resets and the editor is unable to find my cs_aztec_river.mat

schould i add the cs_aztec_river.mat to the data1.pak so i can find it inside the editor or is there another solution for this problem?

I'm still having this problem as well. I hope someone can figure out what's causing this problem for dreeke1986 and me.

I know that creating a river is very similar to creating roads and there is already a video for that but I'd like to request a quick tutorial video on adding water, assigning a .mat, adding visbox, watercurrent etc. if Techland could do one for us?

Thanks!

There will be that kind of tutorial from Alex from World of Level Design. You know his tutorials?

Thanks!

Hi, I noticed that if I change the <map_name>_water.scr file with the water material and save it, it will not refresh the material in the editor. In order to see the new material script I need to reboot the editor. Is there anyway to see the changes in water material script in the editor without rebooting the editor?

Yes, it's possible to refresh file system from toolbar in advanced mode and also every time when getting path to file. All that options are shown on screen:

Well yes, I have seen these buttons and I tried using them. But they did not change the material of the water for me at all. In order to see the material change (say I changed water color in the script) I have to reboot the editor. I just checked it again and it does not update the material in the editor.

Also I have another question: how to get rid of the shadow visible in the picture below?

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/8136/lakee.jpg

The shadow is visible even though water surface should occlude it.

Open the material and look for function that reflects shadows and remove it.

hello again ,

ive waited for the tutorials that alex makes and they are very good tutorials but i still have the same problem.

i do exactly what alex tells in the tut vid but somehow the editor doesnt want to use the custom material.

1: road material before changing.
2: new path for the custom material
3: the place where the custom material is put.
4: the result after clicking on apply

http://draysk.webs.com/river.jpg

it refeshes the path to the material ive used before.
first i thought something went wrong with installing the editor or something.

for other reasons i had to format my computer and reinstall it and i thought i'd check the editor again.

but i still get the same problem again.
are there more people with this problem?

I created a new map because I don't believe it is not working... This is my steps how I created a water:

1) Create a new MP map
2) Go to map directory
3) Place my river material there. Download it from there (don't forget to change "s_env = "testmap_rfl.dds"," to your map's name!): http://www.sendspace.com/file/0qo2uw
4) Go to to advanced mode
5) Refresh file system to recheck all the new files in game directory
6) Go to road tool
7) Create a road named "River Test 1"
8) Go to river settings, set all the flags and select the material from "data/mapsnet/testmap/RiverTest.mat" and then click OK and OK
9) If it works than it's fine. Save your map and recheck it after editor restart. If it's fine it means that you've made some bugs in .mat file. If it still don't work then I don't know...

I created a lake as instructed in the tutorials and forum tips. However I noticed that in some parts of the lake the water material and road completely disappear. I tried making the visbox bigger thinking it has something to do being near visbox edges. Still same problem. I made the terrain lower. Still same problem. Anybody knows how to fix this problem?

Can you post some screenshots or send me a map via PM, ok?

OK. Here are the screenshots:

http://lukaszbogaj.com/water01.jpg http://lukaszbogaj.com/water02.jpg

Update:

I did a couple of more edits to the terrain, I slightly rotated the visbox vertically and I also made the road even wider. This all seems to have solved the problem http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's just a few tips on making water:

1
My problem is that I started building the road from the walley upwards to the hill

I found that when you create a new road, the river current will start at the last road point and end at the first road point you created.

but the water current animation goes the wrong way.

That's the point, you'll have to delete the road and start creating it from the end of the river current.

Or, select your road (CRoadControlPointHelper) i mean all of the road's orange points then, rotate the whole CRoadControlPointHelper you selected
at 180 degrees.
THen, the current anim will go to the right way.

2
2/ Id also like to speed up the current like 3-times

I'd searched new methods in liquid.mtt file but not succeed to speed up the current texture.
The only solution i'd found is inside chromed.
Open chromed then open the roads tool , select your road (river) and click on edit selected road.
Now, increase the texcoord scale and your water material will scroll faster.
To adjust the water aspect, increase the road width and a little bit of segment length.

You can make the ocean on all map surface in map settings under water field to enable and change the water level.
But there's a bug with the player's legs, the player's feet are touching the water bottom while the body still on the surface.
If you want to make a horizon , or a not too deep lake, it is perfect othewise it is better to make a road with water material. (of course with a visbox with water current class)

You can change the water range under road settings by changing the width and other settings.
For the waves, you need to edit the water mat also for the wateere'scolor and fresnell... but it's not easy to know what setting affect which water behaviour.
There's water mat examples in almost all my maps and many other user's maps with custom water mats
You can also add decals with water details to make it more realistic.
