I touched upon Lightwave and 3dsmax in college a few years back and even then they were incredible programs and also frightening in their complexity so all the power to you/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thats good to hear viper - only
the models in il2 / FB are all done in
3D studio Max - no model will be accepted
unless developed in this package...

and it's not even the newest version either ;-)

better ask Luthier what to do...

since il2center is still down - i dont know how to contact him...

I've had my educational license of LW for about a year or so now, so I know it quite well.

But like the quy over me said, the game developers will only accept models made with 3D Studio, 4.x was it?

Before you start anything, I'd suggest you to get in touch with someone who has 3D Studio (The correct version), knows about modeling for Sturmovik and has time to help.
I think that if you build your model in Lightwave, and then send it to your friend who would make the needed steps (Smoothing groups, material stuff, those axis/pivot thingys and whatever else is needed) to make it ready for sending to Oleg.
This would be the only way, and I'm not sure if even this would work (As I know exporting things out from Lightwave is one major pain in the backside) but this is what I've been thinking about if I was going to start something, if you can't get in contact with anyone with 3D Studio, then I'd say you're not going to get anywhere, sorry /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I hope this helped

A little out of topic but in the same catagory nonetheless.

I made a semi-real Ju-87 with Maya (only semi real because I haven't been able to get many good reference pictures). It still needs work, particularly with the gunsite and maybe redo the wings or something, but it's just a beginner's project.

Now to Lightwave it's a nice program, but it's not used much in games (with the exceptions of Serious Sam and a few). The majority use 3DSMax and many are switching to Maya. But it's still one heck of a program, the renderer is awesome, modeler is sweet.

I do not know any good signature message, so I will put this anyway.

Lightwave is a great 3d modeling software but to build a model for fb it has to be on a liscensed copy of 3dsmax. All the registration info is stored in the mdl file if you didnt know.

Nice work, I think if you wanted to model in lightwave of Maya you could do all the modeling there, export an obj, and then finish setting it up in Max. We've done that all the time with our games and have never had a problem.
