Sure Oleg had to program different ammo and velocities/trajectories into the code. We all knew that. I was just messing around with Il2 with my youngest son (he is only 3 and just loves Il2). We were playing around with the Bf110 and the ammo loadout for the Bk3.7 is 2 HE and 1 AP. I knew that already also. Here is the neat part. On externals my son was firing the 3.7 while parked on the runway. I noticed that some of them were going higher than others. Must be a dispersion thing right? Wrong! I zoomed out the external view quite a far distance away to get a better look at the tracers and their trajectory. The two HE rounds travel at a much slower velocity and the 1 AP round goes much faster giving it the higher trajectory. I was letting him just fire away as I was watching the two different ammo types fly down range at different speeds and different trajectories. I was just amazed by this. I had noticed that Oleg had already incorporated bullets slowing down as they traveled but this is really neat see different ammo types fired from the same gun traveling at different speeds and trajectories. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I made a movie of this for all to see. Keep in mind that the 110 is stationary as in not even jumping around when firing. You can clearly see 2 different ammo types traveling at different speeds and trajectories in the movie clip during the 20 shot "burst" that I fired.

Edit...Photobucket totally destroyed the video quality to the point where you cannot see the tracers. I am uploading the vid to Yousendit and will provide the link shortly.

Both videos just show a runway at night...is something wrong or am I missing it somewhere?

I saw it. It's dark, but if you look in the upper left-hand corner, you can see the tracers. One goes much higher than the others.

The one I like, is that if you take something like the Me-262-A1, go to externals and get far away from the plane along the line of the shells travel. Far far away from hearing the sound of the gun itself firing ... you can hear the neato whizzing of the shells as they approach, and then pass you.

Hella cool!

(A1? I think. The stock fighter. Not the bomber and not the one with the blunderbuss.)

the original il2 had booms that corresponded to weapons fire that found no mark. i could only hear it when the sound-bug made my engine sounds mute. i assume it represented the bullet going super-sonic in a free fall but i may be mistaken.

You can hear that with any plane and any gun if you just zoom out a certain distance and let the shells fly past. MG rounds will create a high pitched noise while cannon shells give a deep humming sound. I only started to notice this kind of sound effect after I bought a new soundcard a while ago.

That explains why I always have trouble hitting anything with that gun.

I find that it takes quite a while after switching planes to find the arc along which guns/cannon converge.

Uh, sorry people. I am firing the 3.7 from the big tarmac at the top of the runway into the upper left of the screen. You have to play the video in full screen mode to see the tracers as they are quite small being very far away.

This is why it doesn't pay to be snobby about externals. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I like to watch rockets approach and pass at 1/4 speed.

I don't normally use externals, but when my 3 year old wants to sit down with me, I can make an exception...that and when I just want to admire my beautiful aircraft, but NEVER when I am flying serious, which is most if the time.
