What is the tactic for the Spit MkVIII? I can't for the life of me, figure it out. Is it a BnZer, or a turn-fighter? I'm thinking a boomer, but advice would be grealty appreciated http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It can do both rather well, its one of the best all round aircraft in the game i think.

You can dive down and use the hispanos, if you muck up and loose your speed, just chuck her into a turn and bugger off to start again

Probably not the ideal way to fight, but it works well for me

I seriously stuff up in this track as this was my first flight after a long dry spell without PF. But it shows that you can turn with the Zero...

It's only with the added courage of JD pumping through my veins that I post this terrible piece of flying here.

EDIT: seafire though...

Cheers. I just flew, and saved the track (thank god). It had the best Spitfire flying I've ever done, including blowing a Zeros tail off when he mas in front of my zooming to my left. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thanks for advice guys http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Spitfire VIII's, like pretty much all of the Spitfires we have at the moment are best at home between 4000 and 8000 meters. Thats where you really have the advantage against similar opponents.

I tend to fly it as a BNZer with a good dive speed, hit hard on the target, and then climb back up. That said, the VIII like all the other Spitfires turns quite well and you can try and do some turn fighting. Mix it up a bit and do both.

Well that explain it. I've got a dogfight situated at roughly 1000 meters, so it's just a matter of wrong altitude. I remember once trying a P-40E at high altitude, by the end of the night was extremely frustrated, kept stalling and being out-turned. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif But just took the height down, and shes mine.

Thanks

P-40s performance deteriorates rapidly above 3000 meters. Same with the P-39Ds. Keep both of those guys under that altitude and you'll be fine.

Concerning the P39, I used to fly the D2, but after trying the N1, well, it has vastly superior performance.

What's the main difference between the mkVIII and the mkIX's we have?

I thought I noticed a difference in the canopies, but maybe i didn't.

The IX was a stop gap version, basically the MkII airframe with a bigger engine, like the VB. The VIII's used the same engines as the IX's but was a totally revised design, with better aerodynamics and strengthened wings and fuselage. Its a little heavier but makes up for it in the aerodynamic refinements it had.

The VIII is the best looking Spit in the game at the moment, but I think the IX flies better. I know the VIII should be superior but I don't think it is. It just seems a little bit less forgiving in a turn when it comes to stalling a wing.

the Spitfires are the best E-Fighters in-game as they are now for all alts

Yeah you may be right but the VIII is still more fun to fly. I think it looks a bit better and it ultimately flies a bit better.

I just recorded a NTRK file fighting in a SpitVIII vs Zero's.
I usually fight with verticle movements instead of horizontal.
