I can honestly say that, not only just for me, but for the community as a whole I think SHIII is the most anticipated game of all time. At least in my experiance.

Well for me, that would have to be a toss up between Legacy of Kain Defiance AND Rome Total War. I am eagerly awaiting this one but never having played a Sub-Sim before, I am one of the mainstream that UBI caught with this game.

I was really looking forward to Rome:TW as well. And I was not dissapointed, espeacially after the Total realism mod.

But I am saying that it seems to me, based on the community as a whole, that this game is the most anticipated game I have ever come across.

Welcome to the subsimming community http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Subsims certainly provide a much different sense of fun, suspense, and immersion. The last REALLY good U-Boat sim was Aces of the Deep, back in '93. We've been waiting a looooong time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I tend to agree.

I think this is why....We have FINALLY entered the golden age of virtual reality.

The computing power and software graphics quality have now turned the corner (HL2) where we are able to recreate reality....in REAL TIME.

It's not to far off before, we will be 'actually' experiencing the virtual world (less smell and touch), and the mind can really immerse itself without straining to believe it all.

It's this game's promise of that immersion, that holds us in a trance.

im afraid to see what games will be like in 20..or even 10 years. Its actually kinda scary, at least for the more hard core gaming guys like us.

Yeah Rome total war sure is a great game. ive been playing it more then ever with teh 1.2 patch.

But Silent Hunter 3 is my most wanted game ever since the announcment of Gold status. Ive been refreshing these forums every minute and following all the updates. I dont do anything much now except brows the forums and get to know the people who are going to love this game as much as me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Im cutting a fine line with college right now, im about to get kicked out if I slip up one more time... but i think next friday calls for a "I got up late, sorry" :P Just to see if it arrives in the morning :P

Did anyone play Sub Command? For some reason I just can get the TMA to work right....so it wasent very fun. Way too realistic for me, not enough of a fun factor.

The craziest thing was the demo release of UT2003. They had a webcam and thousands of people stared at the pics from that webcam, because they sometimes fixed pictures or papers with news or statements.

That was really crazy, but that was an excellent example to see how hard devs worked to get that thing out. Over 2 weeks the devs literally worked 24hrs / day. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Have you tried the mod Rome: Total Realism? A near total overhaul (new graphics too).
Check it out: http://www.rometotalrealism.com/

The new realism mod adds ALOT of new provinces(and thus cities) doesnt it? Doesn't this create way to much clutter(a criticism I have heard of it). If not, I will give RTW another go especially if the diplomacy has been fixed.

Sure, loved that game.

Got the successor, Dangerous Waters a couple of days ago and have spent countless hours so far with it.

And yes, it's a compelx sim that requires you to actually read the manual. But once you've grasped the basic concepts TMA for example is a very rewarding task.

But of course it's easier to click on a ship and press the "launch torpedo" button in Sh2... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

For me it was Red Baron 2. What a disappointment that was. I think this is my most anticipated game that has a really good chance of not disappointing me.

I would have to say that SHIII anticipation level is in a dead tie with the anticipation level some of us had for B-17II The Mighty Eigth.

What does it actually mean when a game has "Gold Status" ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

My brother says he has never (in the history of my computer gaming - 22 years) seen me this obsessed and for such a long time about a forthcoming computer game.

The best part is, having played it, I know that it is going to be revolutionary and that it has the depth (pun intended) to keep my obsession for a long time after I have got it.

In the past when CD burners were not a household item, the surface of the CD was gold.
When the dev tem finished working on the game they burned a copy on a golden disc and sent it to be printed out in quantity.
Hence going gold!

Back during the New Kingdom times in Egypt, CDs were made of solid gold and were given to the current Pharoah as a sort of gift. The Pharoah would then travel to The Great Pyramids at Giza, once there the Pharoah would climb to the top of the Pyramid Cheops and offer the gold cd to RA to pay homeage.

Either that or what Mess. said.

Falcon 4 was the one I was looking forward to most and I was pretty much disappointed.

B17II I looked forward to, but not as much as SHIII.

This rates right up at the top. I feel a lot more confident that it will be great than I have of most other lond awaited titles.

It has exactly the dynamic campaign I like and that is what has got my antisipation at a fever pitch. I loved SHI for that reason, but this goes several levels higher on the immersion scale.

You can say that again!
