Ian Boys said this in regard to the query:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> The Kurland and Murmansk maps will be free in the patch. The rest of it will probably come on a cd. Including the skins and other stuff it would be a huge download and it makes no sense having an add-on meant primarily for offliners only available online.

The status is that it is 99.9% ready with only a small bit of translation into French to go. I'll probably post those texts soon and see if the community can help. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

So the maps WILL be in the patch, the campaigns generated for them by Ian wont be. Not really a huge downer, just a small disappointment.

Besides, I didn't know we were getting any campaigns with the maps anyway, so it's not like I really feel like I'm missing out.

I had a feeling that all the stuff they were talking about as possibly being in the add-on (new FM, new planes, maps, campaigns, new version of DGEN and NGEN) were going to be too big for a 100 mb download. Now we're learning that the add-on might have less than was announced.

That's okay with me, though. I've bought every product for the IL-2 series before (BOE, TLD, Case Blue, Operation Barbarossa, COE, Banzai, etc.) that a pay CD for the Kurland and Murmansk stuff I will also buy. Same for the CD with the Soviet 1946 planes.

As long as I'm sure they will be released in USA, I'll buy them. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not surprisingly, this fits in quite well with the whole 3.05/4.0 fiasco.

I will not be surprised when 4.0 does not materialize in the first week of June.

Hold the horses guys.

At the moment, all information points to free patch with everything that has been confirmed. The rest has been made up by the community so try and distinguish the facts from the fiction. We really don't know what were going to get...we can just hope.

As for the maps vs the campaigns...it was never said, but I always assumed that it would be that way. As long as there are the maps, we can make use of them one way or another.

Ian Boys is talking about a CD that will probably be like BoE. Not like AEP...although with the Russian Addon CD...maybe.

From what I read in the SimHQ link, even if just the maps are included in the addon, without the DGEN to go with it, at least it will still be available for FMB mission makers like yourself, Icefire. That OK with me, plus as I mentioned I'll buy IanBoys' CD if it gets released in the USA.

A 100mb or more Download is nothing these days, even on dialup that wouldnt take long at all. This is the most ludicrous and stupid excuse Ive ever heard.Im an offliner like most others and the majority of us have the internet to download this.I dont need no stinking CD.2ndly how do they think offliners without internet access will even learn of this new patch/addon?All the BS on these forums and the internet about IL2 just gets more and more interesting the longer you hang around.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I want Ian and the gang to get paid and paid well. You should never do anything for free. If he ( they ) is/are satisfied with their compensation perhaps they would consider other maps-maybe one for PF. The price of FB+AEP+PF does'nt even equal parking and lunch in Chicago. This has been a very inexpensive form of entertainment.

I'll buy it, if thats the way it rolls out. I've been nothing but happy with BoE, and (for me at least) $20 bucks is small price to pay. 2 or 3 trips to the movies? No biggie.

No surprises here, was personally waiting for the moment they would put a price tag on the thing.

This would be that capitalism stuff, wouldn't it?
Seems pretty cool to me. We pay people for all the effort they put into stuff that makes our lives more enjoyable.
Yeah, alright, count me in.

Well, I should have guessed. When I originally heard that the Kurland and Murmansk maps would be in the Patch, I thought, "But will we offliners be able to use it in Campaign?"

No, we have to buy the add-on first. Well, ok, I`ve bought every IL2 stuff so far and these guys deserve to be paid for their work.

Still disappointed though. It means we get the car but not the engine. It`s a bit of a slap.

A question: How long before the CD addon is released?

The price of FB+AEP+PF equals one quarter of average monthly net wage here in Czech Republic.

It equals to 107 liters of gasoline, 175 0,5 liter beers and it is twice that much as my average monthly cell-phone bill.

We still can afford that, but this entertainment is not cheap for everybody out there.

I imagine that flying a Tempest in those maps would be fun.

Can't wait for the patch to come out.

When I read threads like this I get this quizzy feeling inside. There is going to be one or maybe more paid-add-ons before BOB.

Afterall, BOB is quite a time off.

I think some people are misunderstanding things...

My understanding is this.

-Ian made Murmansk and Kurland. He has no affiliation with 1C/MG/Oleg

-Murmansk and Kurland WILL be included in the free 4.0 patch

-Starshoy will NOT update Dgen to work with them

-If people want to fly campaigns right away, they will have to pay for a CD like Battle Over Europe from Ian

So this has nothing to do with Oleg or the "fiasco" ( http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ) of the 4.0 patch.

Personally, I don't think I'll be getting the campaign CD. I was looking forward to flying over both places, but I don't have enough disposable income to drop $20 on a mission CD every few months. I just hope DCG picks up the slack here.

#1 guys maps will be distributed by UBI...

#2 Ian has done alot for the community so I have no problems with him making some cash on it

#3 What's Dgen and Ngen? J/K http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

#4 You'll probably see more of these out as in the past.

Anyone who b1tches about this is an idiot. You're getting the maps that probably took Ian a ton of time to create for free. Say, thank you and be happy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif You can build as many missions as you want on it in FMB. Ian and Starshoy want to sell the rest of their work, it's their right to do that. I'll be happy to pay them for their hard work.

Starshoy never said that.

Starshoy said you need to have Ian's add-on to be installed else you cannot play a DGen campaign featuring this map.

That means when you have this add-on installed you can play the DGen campaigns that will come with this add-on that are using this map.

However when you have this add-on installed you can also use this map in your own DGen campaign featuring this map.
However you cannot use this map without having the add-on installed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A better way to phrase it probably would have been "Dgen templetes will come with Ian's addon, but Starshoy will NOT update Dgen to support the new maps outside of the addon."

Yes, but note that he said.
I will not support any templates and campaigns working outside of Ian's project.
So he will support it.
But not outside of Ian's project. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
