Then again, some folks like to flash...

Powerful X-ray machine debuts in Phoenix

Backscatter visually strips off clothing, to be used on voluntary basis

Didn't they have this in the "Airplane" movies?

See Here on MSN (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17296248/)

Seriously though, that's crazy stuff.

They have tested that machine in other airports before and what made me mad was that there was a different machine for each gender, and the operator was the same gender. Now maybe it's just me but if I'm gonna be showin' off my goods I would MUCH rather it be a chick checkin' 'em out than a dude.

They should allow it on the condition that the operator of the machine has a similar machine focused on him which transmits pictures in real time on a giant screen visible to everyone in the security checkpoint.

Oh, how quickly they would be reminded of ethics.

To save major money why don't they just have a real cute (nagged) female in a closed room that you have to take off all your clothes off for? Heck it would even make flying worth while again! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It says that they will be able to see my skin. But will they be able to see my bone?

I wonder what the effect upon passengers' cancer risk will be? I would imagine that it won't matter if you only fly to go on your annual holiday, but what about those who are frequent fliers for business reasons?

Viper, from what I've read the radiation dosage is a small fraction of a dental x-ray. You'll get more radiation exposure on your actual flight than you will from the backscatter scan.

This is (at least for the moment) only being used for secondary screening, and is voluntary. If you set off the initial screening, you'll be given the choice of either the backscatter scan, or a pat-down. I don't know about you, but I find the thought of the scan (which is neither recorded, nor transmitted past the screener's station) to be a lot less invasive than a stranger's hand up my crotch.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the screener asked if you would like a "Happy Ending" after being scanned http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
