Hello all.. this is my first foray into the IL2 forums since I purchased IL2 1946... so be kind http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Firstly, this sim is freakin awesome, and seems to have a very supportive community, hopefully you'll be able to have a little patience with my questions.

The Copy of IL21946 I purchased was, as far as I can tell, the last remaining copy in New Zealand... and came without a box or manual... just the double DVD http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif is there an online resource or downloadable pdf of the manual? (my purchase was legit, still have receipt if any admins get a bit curious)

Is anyone able to tell me why the main screen for IL21946 is the same as PF? Not a major, just curious. I did previously have PF installed on a FAT32 partition, but completely reformatted my HD to NTFS before installing IL21946

Is there supposed to be any RAF/USAAF campaigns set in the European theatre? Or are these available only as custom made campaigns

Another minor problem is that I cant get the canopies to open on any aircraft. I have bound the key as O' and have tried other key settings, but still no joy, again, not a major, just a cool little feature at the end of a successful sortie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And lastly (for the time being) are there any guides/advice anyone has on effectively using complex engine management? Im at a bit of a loss on where to start with this one. I haven't ventured into any online flying yet, but I would guess that you need to be getting 110% out of your kite if your going to survive, let alone squeeze off a few rounds.

Well, that should be about it, will probably learn the engine management before I even bother with looking at the bombsight management

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Most of the older models do not have opening canopies. Mostly it is the aircraft that were included in Pacific Fighters.

Once you find the Manual.pdf on the disk you'll want to go to page or section 18 Good luck.

Dont forget to look at Bearcats Nugget Guide (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/9121094645), it'll blow you away http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif.....haha
But worth the read for anyone starting this sim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi R33GZ,
Welcome to the fold.

This is a link to a RAF Flying Cadet's Handbook issued in 1943.
As stated in the introduction, it "is a very useful booklet for a general overview of flight issues."

http://ww2airfronts.org/Flight%20School/basics/lessons/...tes/cadet_note1.html (http://ww2airfronts.org/Flight%20School/basics/lessons/cadet_notes/cadet_note1.html)

This is a similar RAF manual dating from 1937

http://www.tailwheel.nl/gen/rafflyingtrainingmanual/index.html

Although written earlier, in 1937 there is, on page 109 of the PDF, a chapter 'Aero engine speeds and boost pressure', which clearly outlines principles of engine management.

These principles and most of the other real-life information in these documents appear to hold true for the game.
Using it can certainly add to the experience of playing if you are interested in ww2 'planes and combat http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hope this is of use.

WOW! thanks dieg777, the mission4today site is fantastic... just what I was wanting, some specific info on superchargers/turbochargers and when to use them... fuel mixture too.

Will have to practice this all offline before I offer myself up to the online vets I think :-)

on that note... are there any specific servers for noobs? or do you think its best to just jump in the deep end and see how many lucky shots I can pot :-)

Thanks for all your help.

Cheers

What matters is the version number down in the lower left corner.

It should be at least 4.08 though with my DVD set I needed to patch up to that.
