On Tuesday, the Mrs & i stopped by the Museaum to get photos of the bubble top P-47. When we pulled up, the hanger was open & The Beau was sitting in the sun. She is not done yet. Still missing the rudder and a few panels.
When we went in, the P-47 was being dragged out. So, back we went & got these shots of the Beau & of the the Jug & friends. Later they hauled out the Mossie & added it to the line up. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b62/BRASSTURTLE/S7000084.jpg

The ammo drum was a bit of upskirt. I had to shoot through an open hatch.

Nice. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Would've picked a different paint scheme though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Im almost willing to bet that that is the USAF Museum near Wright Patterson. I've been following the restoration of that Beaufighter on their website for a while now and those are the first pics I've seen of it. Very nice pictures, It looks like they've done yet another good job at restoring an old bird.

By any chance did you get to see how far along they are on the "Memphis Belle"? Last I had heard they still had the wings off trying to cover the names people had written inside during her Warbond Tours.

Yup, that's the "Museum of the United States Air Force", formerly known as the Air Force Museum (don't ask me why they changed the name, ask Gen Metcaff.) Glad to see the Beau is almost done (looks like it's got some loner wheels though.)

I haven't been there in years. I'll need to see it again just to see the new buildings (and the aircraft they contain.)

With the MiG-25 and the Belle, the restoration shop will no doubt be keeping busy after they put the finishing touches on the Beaufighter.

Beaufort, they picked the scheme based on an example that served with the USAF. They've done the same with the Mosquito IIRC. Perhaps not my first choice either, but the USAF is footing the bill, so they get to paint it as they see fit.
