I'm having a problem with the game crashing to the desktop. Mostly it seems intermittent, but there are certain places in the game where it always happens (So far, Tomahna seems mostly ok, but it happens a lot in Spire). Seems to be possibly graphics related. Does anyone know what to do about this? It's getting a little annoying...

My specs are:

Windows XP Professional
AMD AThlon 900 mHz
LOTS of harddrive space, but minimum install
512 m RAM
NVidia GE Force2 w/ newest drivers and Direct X 9.0

Other than the incovenience of restarting the game after a crash, I love the game!

This game seems to generate a fair amount of heat. Try blowing the dust out of your system and making sure all the fans are working.

If that doesn't resolve it we're going to have to poke around until we figure out what's causing it.

Thanks, but my machine is clean and all fans are working. Also, it doesn't seem to matter how long I've been playing -- and the fact that there are certain places in the game where it ALWAYS crashes tells me that this seems to be a software related problem/conflict. I have not noticed any of the other glitches that people are posting about (family tree, etc -- mine works fine), and I'm not getting any error messages so far -- the game just crashes to the desktop without warning.

I am having the same problem. It is crashing to desktop in Spire when I complete the bomb. I have a P4 1.3 GHZ, Nvidia GForce FX 5200 128 MB, updated drivers and Direct X 9.0c. I am waiting for a response from tech support.

Hawks,

Could you post what response you get from tech. I have a system almost identical to yours and I am having basicly the same issue. Thank you.

Ok. I'm crashing to desktop 10 out of 10 whenever I get to this point

It's really sickening.
Is there some workaround yet? Am I the only one?
Thanks

PIII 1GHz
512 Mb ram
chipset VIA
Radeon card 9200SE 128Mb / Latest Omegadrivers
Directx 9.0c
(clean cabinet, additional fan and no other programs running; besides I never crashed in Uru which was much more demanding).

Whoa that's obnoxious Shangra. Hmm... I'd try reinstalling.

I'm with ya, Shangra -- URU never crashed on my machine either. But there is a place in Spire where this game crashes EVERY time. Could this be a Direct X 9 thing?

Thanks Maz. Reinstalling did the trick. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Great to hear Shangra http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I suspect that even if some drives install from Disc2 they might still be having problems with data corruption and just not necessarily reporting it.

I've played this game twice since getting it yesterday, and both times it crashed to desktop. It was in 2 different places (both near the beginning). I left all of the in-game options at the default settings.

Here are my specs.

Dell Dimension 4600 Pentium 4
Windows XP home edition
512 MB RAM
Intel Pentium 2.66 GHz processor
Direct X 9.0c
NVIDIA Gforce4 Ti4200 w/ AGP 8X 128MB(latest driver)

Okay, now it seems that the problem is truly random. I've managed to get past the places where it always crashed before. (Hurrah! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) But still CTD's without warning, random places. I started the game yesterday and played for about 3 minutes before it crashed -- restarted the game, and played problem-free for about 2 hours....
I just make sure to save my game about every 5 minutes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
