View Full Version : ZIS 5 AA gun as "Artillery" for DF maps, please

Sir,

If at all possible, could the Zis 5 AA gun be made as a stand alone active unit in FMB, much like the Maulter AA on the Axis side?

It's a Stationary Object and active as part of the Vehicles options (as well as part of convoys), but is unavailable as light protection to ground targets in DF servers.

Thank you in advance for considering it, and for having a forum where we can ask for additional features.

A huge "I third that."

That is a big missing item and it should be so simple to implement. The model exists. The cannon already fires in the vehicles class.

If at all possible, I think that the "AA-Train Wagon" should have a counter part in Artillery as well. Good for setting up static trains...

Of course I'd add them to my UQMG templates if they came out.

Another "yes please" here.

I would also like to see the "Vehicles" section - those with guns - replicated entirely under "artillery". Such as the ZsU-37 and others.

And a gentle lift to the top, since it's a request without insult.

Sure it is insulting since you are inferring 1C/Maddox was not compentant enough to include the ZiS 5 in the 1st place./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I prefer "oversight" to incompetence. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Incredibly, there is a large group of folks that think the best way to request something by starting out with insult, add a few lines, insult some more, stick in some gripes about items not relating to the request stated, and then finish up with a final insult.

Likewise, the assumption that altering anything in the code is "easy" sets me back a bit.

FB meets all of it's deliverables right out of the box - anything else is simply upgrading what is already there.

Guys, may I suggest using the ZSU-37 for Allied AA protection? I use it instead of the 25mm, as it is a little less of a sniper shot and a little easier on the frame rate. It can be found in the Stationary Armor section.

For the Axis equivalent, I use the Nimrod instead of the 20mm. That one can be found in the Artillery section.

There are also two tanks that can be used for light AA protection. The Pz.IIF (Axis) and the T-60 (Allied). Both of these are also located in the Stationary Armor section. They will down\damage the occasional plane and prevent enemy players from landing on your airfield (with their main tank gun). They are also harder for the enemy to destroy than the other AA units, as they are...well...tanks.

Yup, roger that on the T-60, T-40S, and K-251 - though they don't engage until at very close range.

Post patch all of the AAA has been de-snipered.

I really like the Maulter AA on the German side because it's both light and has a high rate of fire - there's a certain scare factor that goes into facing it, even though it's not all that much a threat if you treat it with a minimum of threat.

I don't use the Nimrod very much, as there really isn't a match for it on the Soviet side. On a DF map airfield coverage should be balanced to make vultching equally prohibitive for both sides.

Hi Ba_Dart,

The ZSU37 behaves in a very similar way to the Nimrod.

Hmmm, one of us should accuse Oleg of bias for having the Maulter AA as Artillery but not the ZIS 5 AA gun.

Isn't than an ORR requirement?

(btw, you're right about the ZSU thingy, as you knew you were - made a new DF map tonight using them)

Then I would also like to put forward the idea of allowing machine gun emplacements for ground AA! The full range of medium and heavy machine guns (rate of fire, damage models, etc.) already exist in the game!
