Have you ever had an escort get really close to you in clear weather without your crew spotting it? I had been at periscope depth, and he definetly wasnt there then, i checked. i surfaced, made sure to put an officer on watch, then went to the map screen waiting to go to pdepth as soon as the front of the convoy appeared.

First thing i hear is the sound of shells flying harmlessly overhead, and some not flying so harmlessly and not overhead either. straight to the bridge, oh my god, crashdive.

You can see me down the bottom just dissappearing below the surface. I was at 50 metres when he started dropping charges at me, none were too close, but i started to crack up then from the damage he had given me already with his guns. A career over. I read back through the recent reports, for the last 30 minutes there had been no visual reports.

This has happened to me a couple of times, once at night, stalking a convoy i was at ahead flank under time compression when it crashed back to normal time with the sound of shells raining down on me, just had time to get to the bridge to see the destroyer about 200 metres of the port bow and then poof...screen of death and then reload. After all wasn't my fault http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I think that this is a known bug that has yet to be fixed.

Yup, I got the axe last night because of that.

It happened to me once also. They came straight at me from ahead and opened fire before I knew they were there. It was the very early morning hours off the coast of North Carolina. Black as pitch.

I don't really think of this as a bug as much as I consider it realistic. They can't catch everything.
