2 seperate shootings on the campus? and the authoriies dont know or believe they were connected ? very puzzling as I dont believe there are frequent shooting on any college campus. Theres gotta be a better place than this world.

There was 1 shooter, a male Asian in his 20s, killing at 2 seperate locations on the campus. Its still unclear why a significant time interval between both locations. Its reported he killed himself.

(rumors on the V Tech sports bulletin board that the shooter caught his girlfriend in bed with someone and shot both of them before going on the spree)

Second time I have had to deal with your political statements regrading gun control in this thread.
This is a thread to express sympathy and condolences to the 32 people who died today. If you want to talk politics go someplace else.
Any further political posts in this thread will result in a ban.
Thank you.

33 targ and they weren't hit by a car

As a parent I have not just sympathy for their families and friends but a real desire to effect change or remove, to the extent that I am able, the method by which they were lost.

Ban me if you want to - it is within your power to do it. These are only words and this is a small pond.

Got a link to that... I'm curious?

Either way theres still a lot of uncertainty... according to CNN the police have detained another "person of interest," whatever that means. I think even the police are still a little confused about what happened in those few hours. Some reports say the killer was wearing a khaki boy scout like outfit, then others say a black trenchcoat. I'm guessing sometime tommorrow morning the Blacksburg police will have a press conference releasing more info...

Either way my regards go out to the families!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Right I read about the boyscout-like outfit.

MSNBC says the "person of interest"¯ is cooperating with police, is not in custody, and is not believed to be under suspicion. Federal and state cops all say they think it's the work of a lone gunman.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18134671/

Thought this was interesting...the Chicago Sun-Times claims to have a hot tip:

Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa.

The 24-year-old man arrived in San Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators have not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source said.

Police believe three bomb threats on the campus last week may have been attempts by the man to test the campus' security response, the source said.

News is still sketchy, incomplete, and made confusing by every network's ravening need for reportage as quickly as they can get it out. I think the most that can be said with authority right now is this is a horrific thing. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif It's a sad world we live in when you can't send your children to school and know they will come home safely to you.
May their families and friends find some peace somewhere.

I know a lock down was really undoable but I want to know one thing:

After the first shooting, did the town and state police flock to the schooland at least patrol the school for the 2 hrs in question since they did not find the gunman at that time or was it simply business as usual.

We lost some good hard working people an Aeronautical Engineer we can relate to and others and it really sadens me. Wondering how our camous at CCSU will respond as I will be there tomorrow.

More facts with some clarification are finally coming out. Shooter's name is Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old South Korean and perminent resident of the US who lived at the university's Harper Hall. He was an English major.

"You caused me to do this," said Cho in the disturbing note he left in his dorm room.

The note included a rambling list of grievances. The words "Ismail Ax"¯ in red ink were on the inside of one of his arms. He railed against "rich kids,"¯ "debauchery"¯ and "deceitful charlatans"¯ on campus. (Ismail bin Jafar may be the religious figure which Ismaili Shiah Muslims follow and are named after?)
here (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-070417vtech-shootings,0,1137509.story?coll=chi-homepagepromo440-fea)

Prof Liviu Librescu was killed after he stayed behind throwing himself in front the door to block the shooter, keeping him out long enough as his students escaped out the windows. He was a Holocaust survivor and the shooting happened on Holocaust Remembrance day. here (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3388753,00.html)
