Hi! I've heard some rumours that the amount of flyable airplanes will be greatly reduced in SoW:BoB. Can someone confirm this? If yes, what is the reduction compared to Il 4.09?
Thx.

Have you tried looking here----> http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/forumdisplay.php?f=98

It's the place for 'official' information about SOW. After all, Oleg usually posts there almost every week now (Friday Updates).

*Yes, the amount of announced flyable planes in SOW is much less than we now have in IL-2. I hope you were not expecting 200+ flyable planes in a new game.

Keep in mind that IL-2's list of flyables grew over the years from a small number to an incredible number.

Like Nate said, initially when released, IL-2 Sturmovik featured only a handful of flyables and maps. With years each new addon brought new goodies as it usually focused on particular theatre (for example: Forgotten Battles covered the Russo-Finnish continuation war, 1946 the "what if" Russian German front in 1946,...) and as far as I know SOW is planned in the same way.

You need to remember too that SoW:BoB will be set in the Battle of Britain period - 1940. No Fw-190s etc. As far as I'm aware the only large map will cover the arena for the battle itself - Britain and northwestern Europe only. Exactly how big Oleg hasn't said yet, but I doubt it will extend far into Germany for example. SoW:BoB isn't an 'upgrade' to IL-2, it's an entirely new project, so making direct comparisons based on numbers of aircraft is misleading.

if you are following the forums the last years you can list this:

as flyable planes
Bf109E
Bf110C
Ju87B
Ju88A-1
He111H/P
FIAT G.50
FIAT Br.20M
Spitfire I
Hurricane I
Blenheim IV
Tiger Moth
Su-26 (just for fun)

if one ore more versions of one plane, not sure

WIP 3D Models so far
Fw200
Bf108
He59
Do17Z
FIAT Cr.42
Beaufighter
Blenheim IF
Walrus
Defiant
Lysander
Avro Anson
Wellington
Avro Rota (autogyro)

if as AI or even as flyable not sure, even not sure if they will make it in the first SoW:BOB release !

in total, i think its a good amount of planes , flyable and AI, for a BoB 1940 scenario !!!
and i HOPE, MAddox will stay witgh this politic - releasing scenariobased maps and planesets.

not like now in IL2 something from that , something from that - and almost nothing complete.

Years old rumors. Did you get the one about Colin Powell knowing where the WMDs are in Iraq? He might become President!
Worst part, how many people in the US even remember or will admit to remembering all that manipulation? Less than 50%.

Hopefully they eventually release a lot more planes and provide maps for scenarios during the entirety of WW2 and every theater. BoB stuff would be cool but Il-2 gives you so many options that I don't think I will give it up right away for just one small scenario. Also hopefully they don't do what ROF does and make you buy new planes. In any case we'll see, and I'll wait and see what people say before getting it, I trust Oleg and co., but way too many games are released in beta status these days.

The SOW series will eventually have larger maps more aircraft and Theaters than IL-2. It will also probably have controllable ground vehicles and ships in time. It will make IL-2 look and feel like CFS1 does now.

@Semi-on: It seems like you think that SoW is some expansion or sequel to Il-2. It's not.

It's a completely new game, with new engine, etc.

Therefore, there's not "reduction". It's simply a new start, with a few planes -like Il-2 in its beginning, about ten years ago. It's expected to grow in time, like the precedent game.

SOW will be fine.

I don't mind starting out with minimal aircraft at all, I'm guessing we will all have our work cut out learning the quirks and nuances of just a few.

Looking forward to game updates and new content release is something that I miss in IL2, I remember driving to every computer store in town searching out forgotten battles on a whim.

If SOW turns out to be as good as its looking to be, you wont care what your flying. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Having the relatively small plane set will be offset by the extremel high quality of the models, plus the attention to detail for the rest of the sim.

In a Battle of Britain simulation we probably will have the planeset from that period, donīt you agree?
Besides, we are all testimony of the huge effort that team are putting in SOW BOB.
So,I think they have the right to earn some dollars from the add-on aircraft and new scenarios/maps.
Without profit the genre will die for sure.

AFAIK, there hasn't been any comment on how future SOW content will be distributed.

Oleg and Co. certainly exceeded all expectations with the amount of free content they released over the life of IL2.

Certainly I don't mind paying for the state-of-the art game and its addons. So far in years Il-2 has given me immense fun for the price I paid couple of years ago. I really wouldn't mind to have paid ten times more http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Right about release of FB, about that long ago I remember Oleg announcing BoB right after a trip to England and IIRC
a games expo there. Right up at the start we were told: fewer flyables at much higher detail.
Not a rumor.

Or did you forget about the pre-Iraq-war presentation by Colin Powell?
Not a rumor either.

Win the lottery, convert one into a flying yacht. Run it till yer broke or it is. Send postcards.
Those things had enormous range if they are the ones used in the east.

lol .. remember all the people back around 2007 who were off to buy a new rig so they would be "ready for SOW" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
