How can you get AI bombers to bomb the same target that you are if you are controlling the lead bomber?

I was flying 3x He-111s in a practice mission I made. Made waypoints for the bombers and set GAttack over the waypoint to bomb. I dropped my bombs on target and my AI companions did nothing!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif No radio commands would help.

Yes, I did set GAttack over target and I did set waypoints far enough apart to get bombers on target.....

Does anybody know how to fix this??

thanks

I have this problem more in the "modded" version of the game. Leaving to me think that somebody added more than just cockpits to formerly AI-only aircraft!! Using my mod install, I also have aircraft that are noticably less stable about the longitudinal axis ( roll ) than with my normal install. Methinks when you go to "that" website, you are getting more than you bargained for!!

Are you by chance running a mod install?

well, "we" had often this proplem in the old and gone COOP Wars VOW and VOW2 where very often missions were flown with flyable bombers.

the solution was, not to take the lead bomber.
i cant remember another solution http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

No mods. Wow, hope there is another solution because he-111 campaign looks cool...

I still have a strange "twitchyness" about the longitudinal axis if I use mods but that's not the subject of this thread and I don't want to hijack it.

This is an often quoted problem It is nothing to do with mods!If you are talking about level bombing you need to set GATTACK quite a distance before target as bombs take a long distance to fall. There may be other precautions which I dont remember but its mentioned in some of the Full Mission Builder articles/guides.It is a bit tricky to get right but will work .It WONT work in a Quick Mission or even some badly made Campaign missions .

Tada!!!!

Level Bombing from the Full Mission Builder Site (http://www.il2-fullmissionbuilder.com/level-bombing.html)

I quote:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Something to be careful of: If you set the waypoint prior to the GATTACK too close to the GATTACk waypoint, the bombers may not release their bombs.

Why? Because there's not enough distance for the bombs to hit! The first level bombing mission I made was from 10,000m (about 30,000ft) and I couldn't understand why it wasn't working. The bombs travel quite a long way horizontally, so give them plenty of distance </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

You're welcome. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

The other fun thing you will get (at least with bomb equipped fighters) is if you set the waypoints too low the bombers will try and suddenly gain altitude to drop the bombs and can virtually do an immelman before release.

Does padlock and attack my target work with actual bombers? It works fine in JABO with bomb equipped fighters.

After more tinkering and testing with a He-111 KetteI did get them to bomb the target with me, although with lousy accuracy, but at least they will stick with me for anti-fighter protection.

It seems that for level bombing, you have to set a GAttack waypoint and set an object that AI will recognize as a legit target: i.e. truck or something. I attached a truck to the gAttack waypoint and the AI bombers bombed it while I bombed the target with accuracy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What I have noticed with JABO AI told to bomb a building is a tendency to switch to a nearby "military" target like a tank if one is around.

My solution has been to hide Opel Blitz fuel trucks inside the buildings and target them instead. This has the added advantage of lots of nice flames and smoke from the fuel truck when you score a hit.

Yeah. I noticed that when one sets a target zone destroy ground, that you get no credit for destroying objects from the object list. It has to be a stationary object that AI recognizes.

I guess your way is the only way to get credit for bombing buildings.

If you turn your autopilot on right as you release your bombs, your entire flight will drop their bombs too. You might try that one out.

Wow!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gifThen they might even hit my target... Cool! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I use this method and my flight plasters the target every time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

So for off-line campaigns, I put level stabilizer on ... then line up the bombsight ... and right when I drop my bombs I hit the autopilot key and all the flight drops their bombs with me. With level stabilizer on the autopilot won't change anything but will just fly strait and level until I turn off level stabilizer, or autopilot.

You might also change your formation or tighten it up to get more accuracy with your bomb runs. I find echelon and line astern and a tight diamond or Figure four work well. My favorate is a tight diamond formation. Little more accuracy on the target.

Thanks! Gonna try some mission building to test.

Probably best to set it up so that the player is only able to inhabit a single bomber and the players responsibility is to stay up with the formation of other bombers. That way the AI function with their normal lead/wing flight setups intact.
