Anna Lind. Swedens foreing minister. And my personal favorit polititian was yesterday tragicaly knife-stabbed while shopping in stockholms largest departement store.
This morning 9-11-03 she passed away from the complications from her wound.

I know this is OT but the date of 11/9 gives us some permission to post this.
She was the best! On level with Olof Palme and destined to be the next prime minister of Sweden.
A great loss to Sweden and the world, a clear and true voice silenced by a steroid full believer of violence as a remedy to problems.

I am shocked, frustrated and filled with anger and sorrow.

Sweden has lost one of its most skilled politicians that into the end was a true politician for and with the people.

She worked for human rights, the right for freedom and also for the link between people in third world countries and the european union. She was not only Swedens most respected politicians, but also the most popular and most likely candidate for the next prime minister post.

I dont know what to say, i am out of words. This is day, september of the 11th will always be remebered by the people of Sweden, as a day of madness and sorrow.

Rest in Peace Anna Lindh

To me it doesn't have sh*t to do with the US or 9-11, people die. Every second. Somebody's dad just died, another persons mom, daughter, sister, son, whatever. People die, nothing stupid about noticing that.
I don't give a mad f*ck more about that minister than about anybody else who died that second.

I heard the news yesterday about the attack she suffered, and I feel sorry she finally died today...

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that until yesterday I knew very little about her, but after reading a bit more on the subject I think this could have wide implications across the whole European Union.

Good to know that the referendum is going ahead despite the gravity of the situation. This kind of attacks shouldn't stop the normal democratic process.

My condolances to all Swedish people for their loss. I must say that before this day I have never heard of Minister Lind, but today everybody knows. She looked as a fine and honest human with ideals and (therefore) ideas. It's a shame and also a loss for the world. And now we have to deal with it.

(snip)

many people died today, that is true. Some died well, some died needlessly, including the late Foreign Minister of Sweden. Have you done anything today to help ease the suffering of others?

Do you know anything about her, and her achievments in her life? Perhaps you might want to find out what she'd been doing to help stop lots of other people dying needless deaths. In a world of politicians with their noses in the trough, she was head and shoulders apart.

Many more people will probably die now that she isn't alive. Do you know why? Maybe you could give yourself some homework and find out. It'd be an hour of your life well spent, and it might even make you a better person.

Many people were born today too... what have you done today to improve their lot?

The world has many, many people who tirelessly work in the background to make life better for others, and some of them die in pointless ways, which is a real tragedy. Everyone dies, but some deaths are sudden, early and pointless. This is what makes others react with shock and sadness.

Other deaths are graceful, dignified and peaceful events, often bringing a release from suffering. As a nurse I've been priviledged to witness many such deaths, and I hope mine, when my time comes, is a good as some of the best I've seen.

Anyway, enough rant from me...but do try to take that hour and run her name through a search engine or two and read up on what she did with her life...it'd be worth it.

cheers,
Tony

May the assasin have his flesh ripped from his bones by the devil to have his intestines eaten by a pack of hungry dogs, all the while having to do pushups onto metal spikes straight through his lungs, as he slowly dies from disease and dehydration, and when he has died, throw him into a vat of raw sewage, and let him smell and drown in the putrid liquid that is himself.

Kind of Graphic, but that's how I'd like this assasin to die. My condolences go to all of the Swedes and everyone who was touched in some way by this politician.

That is bad news. I'm so sorry to hear that.

The real despots, anarchists and just flat a$$ evildoers seem to hold out forever. They've got to be getting help from the man downstairs.

I read someones sig recently, which had a quotation to the effect...the way they deal with their enemies is the way they fear to be dealt with themselves. In my way of thinking that means also...the only way to deal with them is the way they deal with you. Why, because that's the only way they'll understand.

Sad part is...

Sweden doesn't have the death penalty...Kinda sad
the victim dies, and the murderer becomes famous...

The ultimate irony

My sincerest condolences for swedish people and Anna Lindhs family. This has also been very shocking and sad for us your eastern neighbours. It is very difficult to believe this.

Lets all hope the murderer gets caught and punished and the motive for this insine violence does not remain as a mystery.

Mina kondolensar f├┬Âr alla svenskorna och Anna Lindhs familj och v├┬Ąnner.

Ofzo and Wolf:

I don't know what banana state do you live in, but try to understand that in Sweden (and other democracies) this kind of act of violence does not only violate law, human rights and common morale, but it is also a direct and severe attack against their open society and constitutional democratic order. That is what makes the difference. Shouldn't be so difficult to understand.

Go F U CK yourself, Wolf! You have no idea who she was or what she meant to people!

What have you done in life that gives YOU the right to rag on her or the people who are truly sorry about her death?! You sir, are a narrowminded, unempathic truly idiotic scumbag.

We know other people die very single minute, all over the world. We remember the 9/11 attacks. All this doesn't make her death any less tragic to us, do you get that?

Ignorant fools like you make me want to throw up./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

You take it out of context, Wolf said a lot of people died in the same time that minister died and was angry nobody cared about that. This American can spare a tear today for another innocent victim.

It's a sad day for all to see such a person as Anne Lind taken. I cannot help but be reminded of the assassination of Olaf Palme as well. It is truly difficult to believe that such apparently insane things can occur in such a dignified and peaceful nation as Sweden.

To the person who pointed out the truth that many other people die each day...

Perhaps you will understand the reaction better if you think of it this way...

The world has lost a woman who was doing good work.
She will be missed, even by those who did not know her.
If she had passed away after a long and happy life, with an honourable career in office... there would be some solace in that.

But this?

One hopes that there will be a measure of justice - that the criminal will be caught, and we will find out why this was done.

As much as anybody can understand anything this senseless.

Requiescat in pacem.

Nobody cared about that? There's big thread with a black title where people from around the world posted their condolences.

Now what would be your reaction if I posted there and said "People die every day. Get over it."

I personally think you should stop defending that guy and since his reaction pretty much gives away what kind of person he is.

Interesting, I too hope that the killer is caught and faces a fair trial in Sweden.

My sympathy also extended to those of the ministers close family.

I do hope that the jury in the trial is'nt composed of people obsessed with putting people on hot coals or forcing them to do press ups over spikes etc, lets face it, if the killer turns out to be someone with a severe mental disorder who was unable to make the rashional desision to take their medication then I think such outbursts are far less tasteful than Wolf's. Or has there been a trial already?

What Wolf said seems to have been born out of a mistrust and lack of respect for polititions in general, and I for one can easily see how someone might feel the way he does these days.

If this killer is sane and simply a murderer and can have a fair trial then it is a shame Sweden has no death
penalty, a quick drop on the gallows rather than some medieval torture devised by outraged 'liberals'!!!

I hope this has no effect on the outcome of any referendum in Sweden, while I deplore the EU and the common currency I don't advocate murdering polititions or anyone else and democracy is hopefully still healthy in Sweden.

She was the best socialdemocrat out there. What a weird day it's been... First Anna Lindh is stabbed and transported to hospital where she's in surgery for 8-10 hours (and receives up to 40 liters of blood) and later dies. Then a mentally ill man stabs and kills a 5-year-old girl in a small town. And to top it all off a 16-year-old girl who's been missing since Saturday is found murdered in the woods, presumably killed by her ex-boyfriend whom she just broke up with. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Of course all our wingmen who lost friends and family in WTC are remembered too, but (and no offence meant) it's still a bit hard to grasp for most people on the other side of the puddle. These things mentioned above all happened within 300 kilometers (~200 miles) from me, and Sweden's a small country. So things that happen here tend to feel closer, and have a greater impact on day-to-day life.

I agree with Wolf's attitude and I personally don't find this to be a tragedy... well it is sad but to me nothing more sad as people who dies in WWI, WWII, Palestinians, Bosnians, Ethiopians, Americans, Australians, Iraqis, East Timorese eand the list goes on...

So many people are killed, die from desease, hunger and what not else, and this happens as we speek and never ends. What's the worst is that no one gives a damn about them... it's just a news topic and gets forgotten, overlooked or changed the channel.

Just because someone is famous, polititian or rich, it is nothing more tragic if they die then then someone who has nothing to eat and dies from hunger /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif In fact... people dying from hunger is more tragic that this /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

You must find out FIRST who she was and what she stood for before you post something this unlogical.

Isnt it a big tragedy when a person working hard to stop the suffering, and all tragic deaths of famine and disceases in the world, is murdered? A person that, with her wise decisions can maybe stop thousands of peoples death?

Isnt it a big tragedy when a nations elected leader (she was going to be) Is brutally murdered?
Our nation is still in chock. And it will be for a while. This will haunt us, just like when our prime minister was murdered in 1986. I would easily compare this to a murder of Koffi Annan. Wouldnt that be a tradegy?

She was indeed rich and famous. But not the way you mean. Her salary might have been quite high for an ordinary person, but it is still not astronomical values. May I remind you that our politicians hardly make the big bucks, not even our Prime minister! (his salary is about 100k USD a year!)

She was rich in the knowledge of politics and she was famous for her accomplishments. You dont seem to understand that fame doesnt necessarily mean fortune here in Sweden.

She was dying, because she wanted to feel like she was, like ordinary people like you and me, well known perhaps but still worth just as much as anyone else. Therefor she didnt have any bodyguards. Therefor she was killed.

The world has lost a good person fighting for human rights and freedom. The worst part is that she would indeed make a difference in this world. Now it is not going to happen.

I and most other swedes are shocked that this could happen to a so well liked leader.

Hmmm. you know you could use the same logic for the World Trade Center tragedy, many people died but many more died elsewhere. Similarily, Jesus was just one man, many people died, heck two others died with him at the same time

If you applied strict logic and reasoning to your statement, you'd soon realize how stupid and idiotic it was.

She touched the live of many people in a positive way and her good work now at an end. That is the trajedy.
