All those who are waiting with baited breath for the forthcomming mustang are i suspect going to be disapointed. Not because it isnt going to be a excellent plane but because they will have to think how to use it!
The mustang is a thinking man"s plane ,you have to understand it unlike a yak9 which does what you want of it and so is excellent plane for beginners .Remember Janes ww11 planes nobody ever flew the mustang because they didnt know how to fly it .

Another example already existing is the FW190 A5 which is a superb plane but thought to be not so because most pilots dont know how to fly it .It took me six months of being shot down to work that plane out ( always go verticle and roll as muchas possible ).

Remember this waring and dont complain when the new mustang arrives !

You said all. So, you think everybody waiting for the P-51, are noobs, and flying Yaks now?

Thanks for the warning. We all feel better now.

I don't think this was a troll post, he could have thought a little more about the wording though /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have to agree (to a point) that in the realm of FB Dogfight Servers I think the Stang will take a beating. The whole DF experience has warped many new FB pilots into this Micro-Furball mentality that seems inescapable.

The other night a player asked if the host could kick me because I was using BnZ - no I'm not kidding....

I think the Stang will be well received (short of FM issues) by the knowledgable minority of this community. The rest may not bother to fly the stang in Dogfights as they may (heaven forbid...) have to resort to energy tactics /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Look at the average all aircraft DF server and what do you find.... Yak-3's, Yak-9T's, Bf109K-4's, Hurricanes, I-153 I know there are other types here and there but this is the majority - Go figure /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I'm not trying to wind anyone up - it's just the way I see it at the moment.

Your correct Unkle! All things evolve and so has that mad furball in the DF servers. I occassionally will jump in a kite that can get to altitude quickly and I can sit up on my perch and watch the mayhem. The minute I pounce down and make my second turn I am dogmeat. B n Z is ALL I know how to do...that and crashing into other aircraft especially the headon specialists.

I will fly the Stang who cares what one gets shot down in!!!

The thing is to have fun and man am I having fun.

I may even put my Stang on a slider.

I pretty much only fly two types of planes, the P-47, and the 190 A5-9 series while online, that is if i'm not bombing with an IL2. I'm not that great a pilot, and I have a lot to work on, but I find it a lot funner to B-n-Z and get the hell out of there. Frustrates all the turn and burners because you blow out of their range and they end up turning back over and over.

I think you underestimate the community here bub..... I for one will fly the Mustang because I like the plane. I think most of us worth our joysticks in this sim , no matter if we play online or offline, have come to the realization that this SIM IS A THINKING MAN'S (Person's) SIM!!!! I for one stay out of most DF servers unless I just want a little pure fun. I dont care too much whether I get shot down or not I just want to have fun. When I want to get serious I will do a coop. Most of the DF servers I have been on are too much like the old 80% ffas in CFS1. Just a bunch of people flying around shooting at each other...no teamwork, no rhyme no reason....gets old quick IMO. Keep in mind I said MOST NOT ALL... There ARE some pretty nice DF servers out there. So bottom line from my POV in response to your post JJ...thanks for the warning but take it to some rookie who doesnt know that it is more the pilot than the plane. Me ....I will learn to ride my Pony and ride it well, thank you very much just like I had to do with the other planes I like that started out being not so good at all till I learned them... Like the p-39, the P-40,P-47 & the Fw-190...most of em cause I hated them all when I first tried them.....but IMO it is one of the sweetest birds in the sim.

The mustang has/had a good dive speed, weaponry, and range which en masse against drindling LW resistance is all it needed. Otherwise it had an okay roll rate, okay acceleration, okay climb, and okay manueverability.

1 v 1 against a late model 109, both flown by equal pilots the P51 had one option, run.

Fuse set, fire in the whole!!!!!

I agree with the author of this post and a few others. But lets face it guys, their is more people in here who are the FPS type of guys and the ones that just care about points.
I know this because it's all I see in Hyper now. I fly BnZ in my K4 and energy fighting. I've been doing this since Janes WWII Fighters so I pretty much know what im doing. One thing which shows that these guys don't give a toodaloot about using real tactics is that they do some of the most desperate and stupid moves to get a kills. One I noticed is that when im above an enemy at 3000km and he's at 2000, he'll just come strait up at me losing all his speed and eventually just sits their for a few leaving me no choice but to dive down on them and take them out.
Another thing I noticed is that people don't wait till there at a distance in which their ammo can do sufficient damage to my plane I get the "What, my guns don't hurt your plane?" nonsense all the time now, and I hear the phrase "Spray and Pray" ALOT now too!

I say we just let them fly what they want to fly because they will never be as good as us.

As a test, dive on YAK or LA guy. Let him get on your and just drag him up. Eventually he'll get sick of following and break off to go down to the 100ft AGL (above ground level) turn fights.

Well, I use energy tactics more too, but that doesn't mean people who like to turn 'n burn are "lesser" pilots... That takes skill, too! Probably more flying skill than pure boom 'n zoom, and B'nZ takes more shooting skill. These planes spin quite madly if you pull that stick just a tad too hard...

Anyway, why a Stang, you say? I'd say, why not? ^_^

XyZspineZyX

Lesser pilots? What i ment was that most dont care about real flight tactics. so they choose to just fight with out thinking. I never said anything about TnB pilots.

Actually, the P-51D-25RE and Bf-109K-4 as they are represented in Il-2 are nearly a perfect matchup. I posted their relative strengths list in another thread a while back, but they have very similare performance across the board, and match eachother strength for strength. It will be facinating to see a duel between a good P-51 pilot and Bf-109K pilot.

I'm a Jughead myself, but if they aren't able to fix some of the damage modelling problems with the upcomming patch, I may move over to the P-51 for a while.

Oh, and yes you can TnB with the Jug. You just have to know the plane. In my prime, many Lavochkins, often discovered it was a mistake to try and turn with me if I had gotten the bounce on them. Unfortunatly, I haven't been able to play much for over a month now (full time job, and school), so I've lost a great deal of my edge. :/ Maybe once the summer job is done I can get it back. At least I'll finally be able to afford rudder pedals. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I prefer to fly planes that require an amount of skill and forethought before engaging the enemy...I just hope the FM & DM for the P-51 isn't porked like the P-47 currently is. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

If not, I'm sure the P-51 in the hands of a skilled pilot will be feared by both the LW & the VVS!

Cheers,

I sometimes open fire outside optimal range in
circumstances when I think that firing a few
tracers past a plane will cause it to break off
from an attack on a squadmate, or otherwise do
something stupid. I don't expect to hit them - just
make them stop what they are doing. And hopefully
