Check these out:

These are all rendered!!!

3dStudio Max with Brazil R/S for rendering (never heard of the latter). Background plates are photos - but the jet is CG!

I can't wait till we get to fly things like these!!!!

(BTW, the artist's website is www.superrune.com (http://www.superrune.com) - he's amazing)

nah, these are "easy" to do with modelling programmes, because the real plane itself was mainly developed on a pc screen. its harder to catch the style of the old ww2 warbirds.
i hardyl would have noticed that its a rendering, though.

Looks terrific, but I would doubt that our current desktop machines could handle it in a realtime application with decent FPS.

Ever rendered anything with Brazil? Just a single frame takes brutal amounts of time.

Its not designed to use acceleration however, its just doing straight high precision rendering using the CPU (most likely - I've never used Brazil).

The poly count on the aircraft is well within reach of present day machines. Infact we already essentially see it. The difference is in the lighting system. What you see is a very high precision lighting system, plus bump mapping, plus alot of anti-aliasing.

Its very fine, very precise, thats why it takes a long time to render.

If it is what BoB should look like, our wallets should look fat and PCs should look much better than they do now. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I thought they were 100% photos. BoB won't have it that good...but its nice to know we can look forward to as real as the eye can believe; maybe within a few years. What great work!

5-10 years maybe comps can handle them in a 3d enviorment and reasonable fps. I seen them along time ago on 3d modeling sites and had to double take if it was real or not

Yes... but how many of these planes can be displayed at the same time and still maitain a frame rate?

Personally this whole cold war like upping the aintie each time a new vid card comes out is the wrong way to go in my honest opinion..

I would rater see the current IL2 graphic held at this point for 2 or 3 years... And when new hardware comes out (ie vid card) they could add more aircraft...

In a nut shell I would rater seen 40+ B17s in the air with IL2 level of detail then 3 or 4 B17s in the air at *this* new level of detail.

Montra...

MORE AIRCRAFT.. NOT MORE DETAIL!

It's personal and I know not eveyone will agree.. But a good example of this was EAW.. It took years to come out.. and by the time it finally did the hardware far surpased the graphic eng.. So instead of redoing the graphic engine again.. they just ADDED MORE AIRCRAFT in the sky.. EAW was great! Big FORMATIONS OF B17s... I love it.

But sadly that is not the norm... The norm is when new vid cards come out with more capability.. they make more detailed aircraft..

number of aircraft = 1/detial of aircraft

It's the inverse equation..
