A number of our forumites took the plunge and bought Fresnel lenses a few weeks ago. Now that you've given them a good try do you still like them?

I'm thinking of purchasing the 550 soon for a 21" CRT monitor.

Bump that question.

I took out the frensel lens from an Overhead projector that was wreched at work. I never tried it though since the magnifing seemed to much for any use pcwise.

OK somebody post a link to that woman who can pop her eyes out of her head! And then say; "I had to give up my fresnel lens! Look what it did!"

Hmmm .. no Fresnel lense supporters yet. Sorry if you wasted your money and I respect your willingness to risk your cash on new ideas. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Will put my money towards TIR 4 instead. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

LOL ok I will bite but for the record you made me do it k?

Yes I am happy with my lense its just that I have too many projects on the go right now and want to make myself a realy decent mounting solution, so I am delaying instalation.

I would say this though if your in a situation where the cost is going to mean you don't get tir 4, or your kids are going to starve, then dont bother.

If all it means is that you are going to have one less beer then I would say give it a shot.

I think the key is in the mounting if you dont come up with a decent way of suspending it then your not going to like it.

What he said about the Frensel.....

However TIR is another story... considerting that the Frensel lens is only $27 ..... it is a no loose situation... but TIR is a good thing.. for some reason my TIR2 went south on me.... I cant get my PC to recognize it.. but when it works it rocks. Considering that thre TIR is $170-$190 depending on where you buy.... and the Frensel lens is what it is... Id get both... delay the TIR by a week and get the Frensel lens....

Bearcat99---I feel your pain re TrackIR2---frankly the two versions prior to the latest TrackIR4:Pro gave me fits---worked brilliantly briefly but too prone to glitches. The 4:Pro has been fantastic---no trouble at all. Highly recommend getting it.

Good God! $190 for TIR4? I guess I am going to Ebay for TIR3 or something there is no way I can spend that along with everything else right now.

Thanks guys. Decision made: less beer and get both TIR4 and Fresnel but Fresnel first.

tHeBaLrOgRoCkS, if you lived near Langley, British Columbia I could help you out with the mounting challenge. Was thinking of a woodworking solution and velcro to pop it on and off the monitor but leaning towards a black plastic panel I have on hand that is kind of like plasticized corrogated cardboard.

If you don't mind one more question, do you think the 550 will be ok for a 21" CRT?

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gifHey Sean, TIR4 comes with the vector clip included. And it's the best investment I ever made for this game... puter upgrades included.

Hm, I realize this may be a stupid question, but what would you need a Fresnel lens for?

i personally don't think i'd give up my beer money for anything, but...

my tir3 works so much better now that i have it plugged into a powered usb port. no more ducking down under the desk to un-plug, re-plug to get it fired up when it flips out. now if it ferks on me, it's rite at my fingertips.

tir is a gotta have...

Hey Spinner, next time you fly into Langley buzz the condo at the edge of town off runway 7. It's a quiet runway but from my balcony I can watch the terrified faces of cadets practising their glider landings. That's also the runway where I did my first solo over 30 years ago in a little Cessna.

Cheers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Go Gamer is still doing their $30.00 discount through Sim HQ. (Enter the Sim HQ code: SIMHQ30

With shipping it should come out to about $156.00. I ordered one in March to replace my Track IR 1.

my main Track IR issues with a 3pro have been to do with my machine being processor locked in games with lots of aircraft and ground objects.

If things get too busy, especially in combat, the game itself seems to take over all the CPU time and trackIR stops working for a few seconds.

so .. any responses from new fresnel users ???????????/

I've never heard of that happening before, WTE.
Have you checked Natural Point's forum for help? (Hate to have you miss out on Track IR goodness.) I'm not aware of Track IR being a huge resource hog. I'd say that if it is doing what you describe there might be other issues rather than Track IR putting things over the edge.

If your computer can handle a heavy load from a busy mission I'd be surprised that Track IR would be the reason everything is locking up.....(hey, I could be wrong....but it seems strange to me)

wow..im a little late..

i LOVE MY LENS!

to SORDID, a fresnel lens lets you view gaming in an ALMOST 3D sense.. you get a lot of depth! most people like 3D-LENS.com "F550" large lens. it does MORE than just magnify the image. but a few links to make it easier.

ive been going over to the BIS operation flashpoint forum, and harrasing them about the lens..ive been able to get a few people to it it over there as well. a few good hits http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

look around enough and youll see multi million dollar simulators out there...using the same concept..just a lot more http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EDIT: any photos online you see..WILL NOT SHOW "DEPTH" only the MAGNIFICATION. you have to see this in person to understand. also, taking pics of the lens mounted..just does not look good thru the cameras eye...due to whatever translation it goes from...all pics will look blurry..or altered. not really so in person!

LOL thanks for the offer http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I have a plan for the mount but I have to rig up my trim console and learn C++ Not too mention fix up the house http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I have the 550 and I wouldn't bother going any higher, and certainly no lower.

If I ever end up round your part of the world I will buy you a few beers to make up for it if you don't like it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Oh, thanks. That looks really interesting, I think I'll look into it some more. Still, I think I'll concentrate on getting a quality stick/throttle/pedal setup first.
