I can't get the support.ubi.com web site to work properly, says there's an error, please try later. Same thing with the Webmaster.

When assigning User Defined commands to different functions in the game, if you accidently enter an incorrect/unwanted command, how do you cancel that command? I've tried everything I can think of but can't clear it. If you have the answer, I'd sure appreciate the help. Thanx

You should be able to just re-assign the command that you want and it will replace the last one that you entered.

IN other words take a command that is known.. assign that command to the one where you made a mistake.. it will tell you that command is already set are you sre... or something like that.... do it anyway.. it will disappear from where it was and go where you set it. The just re assign the command back to were it was and it will disappear from the new place.. abit cumbersome.. but doable.

I suggest setting up a spreadsheet to organize your set up. I did that here
www.triad773.com\video\UPDATED_ControlsDuAerokraft .xls (http://www.triad773.com%5Cvideo%5CUPDATED_ControlsDuAerok raft.xls)
and no doubt everyone's setup is a bit different. Find out what works for you and enjoy.

Putting this sort of effort into this sim makes it more a complete experience.

Cheers

I wasn't too clear in my post, I guess. The item was blank and I wanted to enter a command that wasn't possible to enter (tho I didn't know that). Now I want to make it blank again, but can't figure out how to do that.

You're assuming I know how to set up a spreadsheet. hahaha
But thanks anyway. I wish I knew how.

Hmmm.. if it was not set up as a command in the first place you could click 'Restore to defaults.'

But that kind of puts you back to square one. But that's the only way I know how to reset the commands.

Best of luck, tho once you get going it should all be downhill from there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That worked. Now what do I do with it? I mean is there a way to enter it into the game program files and it will automatically set all those commands?

I figured I could go back and re-set to Default, but I hated to start all over.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gifYou could also try (should I say have tried http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif ) and edit the file 'settings.ini' in the users\Doe folder (Where 'Doe' can also be the name of a pilot you created)

When opening the file in notepad, your command should be in there somewhere... deleting that line and saving the file could also be a solution... but even more cumbersome than the way BearCat posted....

Good Luck, Have Fun!

That is a beautiful thing! I think this is something that should be included in all games.

I haven't had many games, but I remember one or two having the keyboard control key printed on heavy glossy cardstock for easy reference (Apache AH64? MechWarrior?).

Your spreadsheet will make it a lot easier to set up my new X52... thanks for sharing it.

Interesting. When I opened the .ini file the command was NOT there; all other commands were. (The command I was trying to get rid of was "Mouse Right") So I went back into the program and opened the Controls, sure enough, Mouse Right was there. I changed the command to an existing command and it told me that it already existed, etc. but I changed it. "Mouse Right" stayed there too.??!! So I went back to where I wanted that command originally and re-assigned it in that location and when I did that, it disappeared from the location I did NOT want. Okay, so that worked, but "Mouse Right" is in the new location along with the "Shift S" command and I can't get rid of it, but, "Mouse Right" does not show in the .ini file. So even tho I'm confused, I think the commands are going to work the way I intend them to work. The spreadsheet with all the commands listed is a good idea and I think I'll print it out and go back into the game controls and re-set all the commands according to that spreadsheet.
Thanks to everyone for their help.
I'm used to Microsoft's Simulations which are much, much easier to operate, so this is an adventure for me.

Well, you sure you opened the correct settings.ini file? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
Just tested this, by assigning mouseright to Fire Extinguisher.
It does show up in the ini-file:
MouseRight=EngineExtinguisher

On de-assiging/getting rid of a command manually in Controls: press it twice!
As you can assign two keys/buttons to each control-function!

Now, to test this completely: What control did you assign MouseRight too?

[QUOTE]Originally posted by FoolTrottel:

The User Defined settings I was trying to set were under Gunsight/Bombsight. I set Toggle Sight Mode (Auto) with the "Shift S" command. Then I went to Increase Sight Distance where I tried to set "Shift +" which is where my problem with the Mouse Right command started. I just wasn't thinking when I tried to enter the "+" sign. The "Mouse Right" got in there when I was trying to remove the "Shift =" command.
I had the correct file because the other changes/additions were there. I clicked on the incorrect command many more than 2 times and it would NOT disappear. Nothing I did (right click, left click, double click, saying BAD words) would get rid of it and now it's still in the new location along with "Shift S", but it doesn't seem to have any bearing/effect on the command.

FoolTrottel

Hm, weird indeed.

I set 'RightMouse' and 'Shift =' to Increase Sight Distance:

<some irrelevant lines in settings.ini>
Shift Equals=SIGHT_DIST_PLUS
<Lots of irrelevant lines in settings.ini>
MouseRight=SIGHT_DIST_PLUS
<More irrelevant lines in settings.ini>

Meaning to say: Did you use Notepad's Find function? Looks like them commands are not placed in any specific order, or rather, not in an order I can recognize.... but.... MouseRight is there, and should be there in your case.

If it's not... well, then... weird... I'm stumped!

Here's an idea:
Post yer settings.ini here, I'll paste it into mine, and try and get rid of the RightMouse, and post it back here... for you to put into settings.ini... See if I can crack this one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I use a file editor, not Notepad. My whole point is that "Mouse Right" is NOT in the .ini file but shows up in the Controls panel.
So I guess everything is functional now; I just need to take that spreadsheet (3 pages long) and use it as a guide to set all the commands.
I'm new at this, but I'll survive with all the help you guys are able to give.
Thanx

But, is "MouseRight" there?

The order might matter if you are looking for a specific key or function or control...
If it's ordered in a specific way, and one knows which way, one could find a key/control/function with less effort....

That spreadsheet indeed is not complete.

I've been wondering, wether to create a tool with a nice GUI to view and change the controls, and document/save/print them (keyboard-layout print maybe?) but found it would be too much work...(Oh, one might try and encourage me to create such a thing... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif who knows what it might lead to)

Keep practicing, keep using the game, keep tuning the controls.

This game is too complex to have one set of perfect key assignments.

There's too many different control setups to create one perfect version of standard controls.
Too many different aircraft with different needs...
(Me thinks there aren't enough keys on the keyboard to assign all controls to ...)

Keep trying, keep flying. Just gradually assign controls to your liking...

I really hope you do it! I was just thinking this morning how ironic it is that I struggled so hard and was so frustrated trying to set up my new joystick so I could play a game and have FUN! I think sim games would be a LOT more popular if it was much easier to get started playing them.

Hey thanks cesareDH. I just had to do that for myself to make sense and remember the many commands. It is by all means not an exhaustive list, but feel free to change as you like. Once in a while I discover a command I want to add so I just insert a row under the category I want and print it out again.

I have 3 of Microsofts's Flying Simulations and they are 10 times easier to use than the Ubisoft programs, of which I have 2. I'm not pushing MS games, I'm just saying they are much, much easier (and more realistic) to operate. These planes do things totally unexpected at the most unopportune times. But with practice I'll probably be able to land on that damn carrier without crashing.

Right now it's just too much trouble. The games is on a different machine and I may not play the game any more anyway. I really don't like the jerky screen when lots of other planes and ships are around at the same time, so I'll go back to the Microsoft simulations or the Submarine game or Nascar Thunder; something I don't have to hassle with.
Thanx anyway.

Now wait cesareDH......

You're going to deny yourself a great sim experience because you gave up so easily on trying to reassign buttons? (or in your case un-assign buttons)

You don't know how to make a spread sheet. Why? Probably because you have never used one? But if you NEEDED one you'd learn. I had to learn to use one. It was a little difficult but not impossible to overcome.

The same holds true for IL2...or any game for that matter.

MS might have been easier out of the box but the IL2 experience is worth taking the time to work at it. (my experience says that neither GUI in IL2/PF or the MSFSs are winners though they are usable.)

I can only urge you to get back and try. If you really enjoy flight sims you'll be missing out on a great sim experience.

edit: Same holds true for the stuttering screens you're experienced. Like any good forum there are lots of folks here to help.

IT IS WORTH IT!!!!!!!!
