A couple of years ago I made a training video for the Norden Bombsight in the B25. I was never really happy with it, so here's an updated and improved version:

Mirrored at M4T (http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=2269)

(and HERE (http://files.filefront.com/7311835) is the mission file if you want to try for yourself)

Thanks, I might take the time to learn to do bombing now. Only just started flying bombers (in this game).

Thanks for the vid Joe.

This is what I was speaking of when I stated that some of the old timers need to step up and share their expertise.

Again, thanks.

Very nice. Thank you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I just learned to level bomb few weeks ago, after I found your old tutorial. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I knew I had to learn to level bomb before this game dies, but I didn't know is so easy until I saw your film. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

This is only supposed to be for Allied aircraft, not the enemy...

Outstanding! Well done... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The landing craft and music were a nice touch...very classy...and sets the mood. I have goose bumps.

I watched your original video many times when I was first learning to level bomb and it was part of the inspiration for my own guide. But this...this...I am humbled. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

It's an honour, Crash.

That's an amazingly detailed guide you have on M4T.

And I never knew this story (from your guide):

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Which brings us to the second air speed indicator located on the left side of the bombardier's station (cockpit #2). This instrument displays I.A.S. and T.A.S. (quite accurately) and is an engineering marvel...and totally useless. The government contractors responsible for the instruments and the government contractors responsible for the bombsight didn't compare notes and therefore the bombsight was calibrated to different specifications </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">The landing craft and music were a nice touch </div></BLOCKQUOTE>If only the bombers had been this effective at Omaha http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Amen to that... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Yeah, I went a little overboard with the bombing tables. Just shooting for maximum precision and keep the flavor of the times.

But compared to my hamfisted attempt yours is pure poetry. And probably more historically accurate...in fact...I'm going to watch it again right now...

Unfortunately I can't make any claim of truth to the bit about the government contractors. I'd read it elsewhere but I've never been able to verify it as fact.

For my part it was a tongue in cheek attempt at explaining away the disparity between the bombsight and the TAS dial. Gotta keep that suspension of disbelief going, ya know?

I tried it but my Flight Sim yoke is a bit sticky in pitch so no matter how much I trim, it is either too little or too much.
At first I thought that it was just the B-25 that didn't want to play ball, but the HE-111 and the A-20C are the same.
Does anyone have any tips on how make the yoke less sticky (I don't like the idea of flying a bomber with a stick).
Sorry for hijacking this thread, the tutorial is "a good un" and I will make good use of it.

P.S. What part of Scotland do you come from? I used to work with a lad who was originaly from Dunfermline, and you sound just like him.

Hmmm...not sure what you mean by sticky.

Once you're on proper approach to target you turn on the level stabilizer which locks the controls and keeps the plane flying straight and level.

After that you use elevator trim to maintain altitude (the B-25 will sometimes slowly sink depending on speed, bombload and altitude) and use rudder trim to make fine course adjustments.

You shouldn't need to touch the yoke at all.

Wolf, I'm from the Glasgow area, and lived in several West Coast of Scotland Towns. Never near Dunfermline, that's East Coast and usually a different accent.

You have a sticky yoke? eh? Have you tried some soap and water, lol.

Sorry, joking, but I don't know what you mean. If it helps, I actually use my throttle control on my joystick to control elevator trim which is perfect. I use the arrow keys on my keyboard for rudder trim, with each press moving the trim one notch whichj is not perfect as you really need an analogue control for all trims.

A good reason for getting a X52 with lots of twiddly knobs.

I may have found a solution to the sticky yoke problem on the CH forum.

http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=226

It turns out that lots of people have had the same problem with the pitch being jerky and not returning to centre properly.
Luckily the solution is rather simple so I will give bombing a proper go soon.
I have a CH pro thottle and a CH combatstick but I didn't like using them to control the bombers, the Flight Sim Yoke adds to the feel of flying a bomber.

I've just tried bombing a bridge (QMB, pacific islands) and I put the bombs right on target. I reckon that my success was down to watching this tutorial and putting it into practice.
