BoB: SoW railway thread. (http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3751020023/m/2181080123/p/1) The quality of the objects they're producing is just incredible. As an indication of what we can expect for SoW it's very promising. Have a dekko through the thread, it's really breathtaking.

Here are a few images.

These are amazingly detailed and well done. Hats off to whoever did them. I really hope the game can include this quality everywhere - it'll need to to compete with FSX. It'll be a massive amount of work populating a map of SE England and NW France with enough similar objects to make the world seem realistic though which it really must be. I don't think the adequate but cartoonish towns and cities of IL2 are going to cut the mustard for the next gen of sims.
My computer is weeping just thinking about the work it will be required to do.

The 6th image hasn't anything to do with SoW but with TrainZ (a train sim). All others showing models dedicated to SoW.

BTW: all of them are shown in a WIP state and will be improved slightly in near future.

Well, you know, if it is really accurate, all the Luftwaffe has to do is plaster Clapham Junction and rail traffic to the north and south of England is blocked. Why they never did it during the war astounds. One of my professors in college, a Londoner, used to marvel about this all the time.

If this is the kind of work ther putting into trains in BOB i can only imagine what kind of detail is being put into the planes..... im soo exited im gona pop like a zit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The detail going into these models raises all sorts of thoughts about how the complex rail network of south east England will be modelled.

Will the whole network be reproduced including multi-track sections, points, tunnels, operating level crossings, signal gantries!!!

"Storm of War - 1940's Train Sim"

Scheduling of trains throughout the network could take for ever -- but I guess they might run on time for once. Or would there be some sort of random traffic generation produced?

Of course the London area includes the tube lines which around the suburbs emerges onto the surface and has electric trains.

I've seen BoB development shots of diesel buses but what about Trolley Buses with overhead catenary wires and Tram Buses on rails. I think London still had both of these in the 1940's

Of course I would rather have a few extra flyable planes, like the Dornier 17, than much of this stuff but I am being increasingly amazed by the range and detail of the buildings and scenery objects being worked on.

Please tell me we can have both.

Can't wait to see the results.

Work on these trains and their infrastructure is superb and the modelmaker to be praised for his beautiful work, however once I read that the developers have skipped on military objects and units that were important during the battle I may change my opinion. Not of the models, not of the model maker, but at the logic for expanding so much effort on a side track, pun intended.

I am drooling. I was saying to myself no matter how good BOB is I will keep 46 loaded on my PC. Now I am not sure. It is like when I first loaded Il2 in 2001 it was not long before CFS2 came off never to return.

You're right. But. As far as I know this stuff is produced by 3rd parties who are enthusiasts about railways and is not originated by 1c but taken up by then into the game. Indeed, I understand that this has actually raised Oleg's game when it comes to railway modelling.

But imagine if this is the level of modelling given over to rail objects, what will a Dido class cruiser look like?

The specific images are far from amazing. It's the least improvement one can make 7 years after the development of the previous graphics engine. The cockpits are good though. Certainly good enough.

I would prefer to see detail or at least sufficient diversity to result in uniqueness for all geography of the Battle of Britain. I don't care about randomly placed train stations and generic towns.

With all respect I don't accept the third part enthusiast bit. Although it is commendable, the talent and time of these people should first and formost be harnessed to model objects of primary importance.

If SOW were a 1944-45 Battle over Western Europe sim, continental trains would be a prime target, hence a valuable objct.

1C has a history of misguided attention to certain (relatively unimportant) details.

Let them model naval and military objects and diverse industrial targets like aircraft factories in realistically mapped cities.

Look, I only posted this stuff because it's tangental 3rd party stuff that is outwith Oleg Maddox's realm and therefore gives us a little insight into the level of detail we might expect in SoW in view of the deafening silence thereof until E3 in a few weeks.

I don't. We see some fabulous screenshots, made by 3rd party people, and we get whinging already! No one said we won't get the objects we need for BoB, I am sure I saw screens of things like radar stations for example that were targets during the BoB. Don't forget the SOW series will expand to other theatres where trains will be important so we are lucky to get such good ones now!

Foo Bar and otheres are doing this for the love of trains. They are supplying something that would be missing if it wasn't for their dedicated efforts. They should be thanked for that.
They are obviously putting effort into it because of a special interest. Why would they spend hours of their free time modelling objects they have no interest in?
