Tried it and hated it. You want fun try Battlefield 2 with the Project Reality mod. You can read about it here http://www.realitymod.com/<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If you look for reality, BF2 is on the opposite shelf anyway. Reality Mod is nice, but far from real. No wonder on such a basis.

If you want something realistic, check out AmericasArmy Operations (now with UT3-Engine and vehicles - the game is for free), Red Orchestra (WW2-Simulation, no longer deserves to be called an ego-shooter) or wait for Armed Assault, the remake of Operation Flashpoint. Same prinziple as BF2, but realistic.

Anyway, people looking for Bf2142 are interested in future battles with the enhanced BF2-engine. Yes, it is good and in many, many ways more complete, fair and better than BF2. But you got to remember all time, this is a future ego-shooter. You'll be much more happy with this game, if you like UT, than if you like BF2 and BF1942.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

better off waiting for Enemy Territory Quake Wars should be a much better game than 2142 is.

For realism styled game Armed Assualt isnt far away, its out now in some countries, its essentially ofp2. Ofp was one of the few realism based fps's i found were actually enjoyable.

well no in a way you wont, essentially the gameplay is pretty much the same as bf2, where as a game like UT is utterly and completly differnt.

And i have no idea by what you mean "ego-shooter", hell even il2 has plently of ego-tistical people shooting each other.

i myself huge fan of Unreal tourny, but love il2 falcon 4 lockon ofp etc and hate bf2142 bf2 red orchy etc so if a person likes game A it has no relation to game B

I think it's a fun game. The Titan mode is the only style I enjoy but it really adds a new dimension to the series.

I have been playing the game for about 4 hours now and im loving it. Its a change from reality and the new titan mode is the best thing by far(next to the At-St) walkers.

I'm waiting for Armed Assault to come out in the USA. I loved BF1942 and Desert Combat. BF2 was a very big letdown. I could rant for hours on end about what I dislike about it. I'll cut to the chase and say it has met the fate of all game franchises upon which EA lays it's slimy talons.

I'll never forgive them for what they did to NFS either. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

EnemyTerritory will be nice, probably, but the teams and their equipment will be completely different. I'm very interested how the balancing will work for such a game. Other than in that, the Strogg-Team will be very Strogg-Like, which means they'll rather look like Doom-Enemies or similar cybermonsters. Not everybodies style, I fear.

@HellToupee
You should read my complete post.
1. BF2142 is based in the far future. If you want to play BF2 because you know the weapons, as most people do, as it helps them to identify with the game and the gameplay, you'll be utterly dissapointed with BF2142, as there is only a single weapon, that at least shares a name with a current weapon (SCAR-AssaultRifle). Other than that, the weapons, the settings and the upgrades are very futuristic and you have that rather in UT than in BF2 without any doubt.
2. As you pointed out correctly, though you quoted me wrong, gameplay is much more like BF2 - that does not change No1., though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Other than that, most games are ego-shooters, if you take it literally, cause even in IL2 you shoot from the ego-perspective. The classification of the game, however is not that superficial. There are different classes of games, even within the "ego-shooter".
UT, Quake and Doom are pure ego-shooters in the original sense.
BF-Series, GhostRecon and CounterStrike, for example are Teambased, object oriented "Teamplay-Shooters". (which means they have a different bias, than just shoot and kill)
RavenShield, RedOrchestra, AmericasArmy, etc. are called "TacticalShooters". It means, the tactics and teamplay, usually with a much slower gameplay are much more common in this genre.

So, if you prefer UT and hate Bf-series, that is quite normal, cause you might rather be a lone gun than a teamplayer?

@ JG7_Rall
GRAW is a very nice game. I played the demo and was stunned by the interactive surroundings and the complex missions. The full version is even better. You run around like in UT and you'll be dead after 20seconds. In the singleplayer-campaign, you have to read the mission-briefing and equip your men accordingly. The problem: Sometime the HQ forces you to stay out longer than planned. You shoot around yourself like Rambo, you'll be depending on your pistol in the second part of the mission.
Multiplayer is very nice, too, but I strongly recommend using the latest patches. They add a lot better missions and options.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

yeah, i finished this game and then shelved it. its a real resource hungry game. forget about it if you have an AGP card. the map was cool, basically a whole map of Mexico. I assume Armed Assualt will be the same way, one very large map, hope everyone has an upgraded rig cause this game will run the same way.

That's nonsense. The flyer states, that the game contents advertisment and some dump people called it adware, some people with less knowledge then called it spyware.

The adds come in form of the allready in BF2 existing posters and billboards. The software only checks how long players look at the billboards sporadicly and sends this information to EA, so EA can write their bills and get money from the companies having their adds in the game. Nothing more, nothing less.

Everything else belongs into the X-files-section.

The funny thing is, these billboards don't even work as adds even now. They still show the default symbol or game-info.

Maybe Hitler was right. The stupidity of people makes it easy to handle them. Spread some rumors and there you go with a mass of people pointing out their own opinion as hard facts... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sleepzzz.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Novalogic's Escalation is IMO the best FPS. There worlds are huge so real tactics really work. The code is much better that BF2 or any other online FPS. When you think you should have hit someone, you hit them. In BF2 I find myself woundering why the enemy is still alive when I was 6 feet away and holding steady. (Yes, I have broadband.)

Just wanted to point out that I never said PRM for BF2 was realistic. I said it was fun and that it is. It takes a lot of the arcadism out of it. Like no crosshairs (AAO has btw) and ridiculous bunny hopping, ect.
I have been playing the AAO sim since the first day it was available for download and for me personaly the PRM mod is just more fun and better teamwork with VOIP and squad selection.

Have you tried the latest version of PRM? If not you should. For modern day combat it dont really get a lot better at this point. Until Armed Assault is release world wide that is.

I really want to try Red Orchestra and as soon as I get the extra 29 bucks or whatever it is I will. From the videos I watched it looks to be one of the more realistic WW2 FPS style sims.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Correct. But for somebody not familiar with the Battlefield-series, it sounded like the mod would make it realistic. More realistic is perfectly okay, as I wrote, but realistic like other games, well, I think we both agree even PRMM cannot help BF2s basic bugs like the collision detection, hit/damage-calculations and basic weapon-problems. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

The PRMM is fun, no doubt, but the teamwork, as in the unmodified BF2 depends largely on people you play with.

AAO has crosshairs, yes, but for realistic settings, they can be disabled server-wise - as well as the whole HUD or just selected parts of it (like ammo counter, health-symbol, etc.)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

no i always played ut as a team, ctf required alot of teamwork, teamwork i have never seen in Red Orchestrea aa raven shield etc, infact only rtcw and ut fps games ive ever played which promotes a high level of teamplay. The bias in ut was not shoot and kill no more than even realism games(tho all u seem to do in ro is run around shoot and kill) the bias is to win.

And yes bf2142 is based in the future, but because its gameplay is pretty much the same as bf2 the future setting is nothing more than a visual difference. Most people will like a game on how it plays not where its set.

I'm sorry, if I still didn't make it clear enough and I'm also sorry I have to dissapoint you: The designation does not rely on your personal experience with the games. but general ratings. And still, I didn't make the rules, so wrong address for your complains. Anyway, if you ask Ivan or some other veterans here, they'll tell you a lot about Teamplay in RedOrchestra. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

The categories come, for example from the damage-modell and character classes.
1. We have UT and similar "simple" shooters.
Damage is solved by simple rules, a hit causes a certain amount of damage, with a scripted variation (yes, I modded UT99 that time, so I know a little about the background - not
