Anybody know if this will slow/stop a moving ship? Just curious, the comp with PF is acting up & I can't try it out.

PF does not have ship damage modeling really. They suffer no performance loss when damaged so the only way to stop one in mission is to sink it.

This is not quite correct. The ships have simplified damage models. Earlier this week I saw the Saratoga get hit with 4 Japanese torpedoes. As soon as torpedo #4 hit the ship listed to the right, started smoking and had damage to her flight deck and large scorch marks on her sides. I thought she looked like she slowed down, but she may not have. Anyway, I crashed on the deck when I ran over the damaged area of the flight deck.

IRL a few up the kilt shots were sucessfull against slower moving merchant types, by submarines. This is not a favored 'angle' as the ship is moving away, the exposed target angle is small and the turbulent wake can at best deflect the torpedo unpredictably, and at worst actually detonate it.

A lot of times you're better off going against ships using bombs, anyway.

Not to say torpedos don't have their uses, of course:

Probably not the intended use of that weapon, but it gets the job done http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Interesting. Think I'll stick with torps, I can't skip bomb worth a hoot. More practice I guess. Zeus, I'm an ace in you're IL2T campaign (lost 5 wingmen) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif . Rumor has it they draw straws to see who flies my wing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Bombs do seem more effective (probebly cause you can carry more explosive) but torps definately have advantages. The biggest one being range, you can fire a torp from a km away or more and hit if you know what you are doing, with skip or dive bombing you have to **** near ram the ship. Getting that close to a capital ship is not a very good idea IMHO.

Darned if I can remember now. In my infinite insanity I decided to upgrade my pc http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif. It's been one big foul up. Bad motherboard (new board with bent pins) go get new one. Cooling fan won't work got to get a new one. This after the goon swore it was THE only one that worked. Eventually when everything is insync it will be a 3 gig processor with gig of ram. All the old stuff is going to a buddy's dad who is thinking about getting IL2 so his setup will at least run it.
