View Full Version : The Bug with the IXC conning Tower !

This is what happens when you remove the default (2nd type of conning tower) from the Type IXC u-boat, and place the original regular (1st) type of conning tower in its place.

The rear flak (3.7 heavy flak) is gone.. forever. You can NOT put it back on.
I've tried to recreate the campaign of uboats like U-166 and U-507 which were type IXC's with the original tower, and the heavy flak.
I had no success.

In your screenshot you still have the second type tower on your sub. Perhaps you made an error??

Anyway, those are nice pictures of the two subs where did you get them?

No, I didn't.
It shows you that the Flak 3.7cm is not selectable on the weapons loading menu.

Try replacing the tower with the 1st type, and the big flak gun is removed automatically.
I dont know how to put it back on.
All I want is the 1st tower + with the heavy AA

PS: the pics I got on a website called pastfoundation.
Type in on google "U-166, or U-507' and youll find it.

I've had this happen too and it does indeed suck to lose the heavy AA. One way to get around it is to install the type 3 conning tower and then the 37mm comes back. If you edit the basic.cfg folder you can change the availabilty date of the type 3 and go with that.
You pick up the extra 20mm mount but that is the only major difference between types 1 & 3. It's not historically accurate but it beats losing the 37mm entirely.

Its a vanilla bug. Here is one option.

When you get the IXB Or IXC mid or late war and want to change the Conning tower to the first version XI/1 you can in the update option.

Like you said above you can't get the heavy flak gun right.

Well dude this is where you need to do some tweaking,

In your Ubisoft/SilentHunter3/data/Cfg folders there is a file called Basic.cfg.

Scroll down till you see something like this,

In the coloured areas is what you want to change. This way when you start your new game your setup. with the basics. then the upgrades will be possible for newer models.

Now also consider GWX team has done alot of changes and may affect this I don't know. So its trial and error and <span class="ev_code_RED">MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP THE FILES YOU TWEAK!</span>

Thanks that helped alot, It pretty much solved it. The only problem is that it's not compatible with Sh3Commander3.1 - SH Commander overwrites the Basic.cfg file every time you run it. I looked inside the Sh Commander folder to find that same file to edit but its not there. - The next problem is that when you click on the 3.7 gun it "just dissepears" - better not to click at all - AND you can't "BUY" the 3.7mm for the type IXC, IXC40 & IXD? Do you know why?

But i solvied the basic problem thanks to your help - you dont have to help me with the rest - you've done enough

I'm going to look into that.

Why you can't purchase using renown? GWX Team change it. Vanilla SH3 you could buy them.

Hmmm Your going to have to ask them but subsim is having trouble. You could email them?

It would take me too long to figure which script they altered to make you be able to purchase the heavy flak guns...

Don't worry dude. I've done some scripting in SH3 but I'm a little rusty its been 6 months since I touched the stuff. hehehe

Hello Privateer,

Can you make in GWX in your next patch possible when you start a new career with IXB and IXC no matter the date, start with the basic IX/1 coning tower and basic set of weapon loadout.
Also when the year is avaible to the technology improvement should be able to upgrade if he or she has the right renoun to buy the new tech.

This could be an option addon for GWX in JSGME,
call Basic IXB-C Loadout or some such.

I know the radar destroyed issue was fixed
by BigBoyWooly in a patch.
We were not aware of this issue at the time.
Although 'Official' support for GWX for SH3
has ended?
I've asked the best I know to look into this.
He did the Schnell Boat Mod so it's right down his alley.

The GWX Team is in a kind of official
"We ain't doing ****!" mode.
But not a one of the Team seems able
to stand down.
As we look to the future and prepare for it?
We still have that soft spot called SH3.
It is, after all, the Root that we grow from.

As we move into the SH4 project, SH3 will still get attention for a bit longer.
But only as each member wishes to devote thier time.

It may sound harsh.
But We are, at the end of the day, only Human.
And We do it all for free.

- another little problem

In the sub crew management/damage, there is a little error, a little "1" next to the sub name,... on certain boats. Also the full name is missing. - See the image below

* I believe this can be changed in the file where the "Hull integrity" text was, before GWX removed it.. Know what file that is ?

I kind of poked and prodded someone to look at this thread.

If he can't give the answer?
Then I trust his judgement.
He is the best I know personnaly to look at
the files that may be involved.

It may be a Node issue.
But I highly doubt anyone will look that deep.

You might want to look into this - its the most serious problem of all - (After editing the Basic.cfg file, and sub IXC (tower + 3.7cm) look ok now from the outside - I got those shocking images when manning the flak guns-

2 of the flak-men are on the bridge one behind the other with their arms stretched wide... like in the movie Titanic - lol

You might want to get the experts to look into this - this is a very serious bug.

6 = Twin 20mm AA C/30 (early)
7 = Single 20mm AA C/38 (late)
8 = Single 20mm AA C/30 (early)
9 = ?
10 = Twin 20mm AA C/38 (late)
snorchel, radars, radar detectors, are easy to figure out. torpedoes too are not that hard
(3 = TIII, 5 = TV ...etc)

It doesn't fix the issue. I hope its not a node issue because I don't possess the skills to fix that. I'll keep looking.

I know in vanilla Sh3 it does the same. I know in subsim.com someone was working on this. I'll have to find the post.

on my computer (1.83mhz) it takes forever for sh3 to load ..

Lol I haven't tried testing the gun yet. I'm trying to figure how to correct the dude out of alignment in the pic you showed. I have the same problem. When loading a game.

Quick reply.
Every Conning Tower has placement Nodes.
For example, let's use POS and POSR.

POS is a Position for good weather.
Guy is dressed in normal gear.

POSR is the same Position but for Rain or bad weather!

Same position but the guy is in the bad weather gear.


Now, IF the proper positions for guns are not the same from Turm to Turm?

You can alter other files till the Cows come home and get squat!!

If the Turm is not modded by Hex editing or with S3D to bring positional stuff inline?

The strange thing is that the IXB boat behaves normal. You can even change back to the heavy flak gun after changing towers. (you can purchase it)

(but all the other boats, IXC, IXC40, IXD2...
you can't do anything about them. It's pretty much the same boat, - it lets you add the tower (1st), but once you add the gun as well, you get problems
