Nice pic but let me tell you this; I have not had one single problem what so ever on two installs. One on my old computer and one on my brand new computer that I built. I make it a practice to keep my OS running clean and smooth.

Hi Beeryus
Well, take a good long look through the stickyed "SH3 Unofficial BugList Collection Thread/List" thread. There you should find lots of little bugs and also things that people have found incorrect about SH3. Theres lots! But, I will show you a few that I have persanaly had myself. I cant show you a picture that SH3 has crashed on me several times, but it has. And below are just a few problems that I have had. Enjoy! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Bob, that one with the invisible gunners is a riot! Quite funny.

The only one of those bugs that I have suffered from is the rainbow maps. I've recently began suffering from a "save game" bug, however. The game CTDs whenever I attempt to save a game. I play DiD so it's not a huge problem, but my power provider isn't the best and I tend to lose power every once in a while. It's quite discouraging to spend 2 hours manuevering into position for a convoy attack only to have my computer shut down and being unable to reload thanks to my inability to save games. Ugh.

Treetop64
04-27-2005, 01:05 AM
I guess I've been really fortunate, in that I've had no problems at all with the game. The only gripe I have (so far) is that when you save a game while your lookouts are wearing raingear, then you load that same game later, only to find that the lookouts chucked the raingear. Though, that fixes itself when you switch in new guys for lookouts.

alanschu
04-27-2005, 01:12 AM
Bob, your symptoms seem reflective of a videocard problem with the game.

As for the invisible gunners, I get that "problem" too....when I alt-tab out of the game. I wouldn't consider it a bug if that's how you're getting it too.

JebUSMC
04-27-2005, 01:24 AM
The only thing I've had happen, and it only happened to me once so far, is the AA gun disappearing on the crew allocation screen. The gun is physically present in all other graphics but is totally useless since you can't man it.

Out of the ones already mentioned, I'm only experiencing the Nvidia bug, and the one where only the helmets are visible on the gun crews.

There are a few glitches with the dials though, and the periscope gyroangles, and the crew management, and the awards.

Nothing unbearable.

If these were 'bugs' we would all see them. I haven't had a single one of these problems. These look like hardware compatibility issues, not bugs. No software program is free from this sort of thing, but it's not the fault of the developers that hardware manufacturers can't make their stuff compatible.

How is a software developer supposed to know? Is it part of the job requirement that they be psychic? Or perhaps you want them to have a huge building stocked with every computer component ever made in order to fully test hardware compatibility. In order for developers to achieve this level of testing, they would have to charge $1000+ per game. Maybe you have that kind of money to spend on games, but I don't.

This is the way i'm thinking;

If someone developes a program for a computer, then he will make use of the products of the hardware manufactures.

First we have a computer, then we got a program.

So i dont think that hardware manufactures are responseable(srry for the bad spelling),for people who are creating programs, wich make use of their products.

I repeat myself; This is how i think of it, but i can be wronghttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

All jokes aside, I can't beleive how people complain about possible bugs or possible incompatabilty between hardware and software. This complaining is the very reason the problems exist. Consumer demand has pushed the devlopment of hardware and software beyond it's capability. Now, everything we use is basically beta.

This nonsense of consumer demand has made it acceptable to put products on the markt before they are ready. It's acceptable to think there will be bugs and we will get patches. Automakers will have callbacks but it's ok, cause it will be fixed.

Just think of the demand put on the developers of SH3. They even held back and released the game long past projected release dates. Think of all the complaints that were posted because the developers were not ready on time. Then think of all the complaints posted now that there's a possible bug, and it may not even be there mistake.

How many companies are involved in creating the possibility of you playing this game, from software to hardware? Could there be communication problems between the hundreds of companies and departments within those companies? Yes, of course.

You, the consumer, are responsible for possible bugs and re-calls. The develpoers are only trying to meet impossible demands.

All I'm saying is that you, the consumer, that created the situation, would be more useful by posting possible bugs where the developers might see them and be patient and wait for them to do the impossible, just as you have demanded.

All whine and no cheese is boring.

Alt/Tabbing to the desktop gives me the same bug with the maps, apparently it looks like it might cause the recog manual glitch and underwater glitch as well.

All I have to do is Alt/Tab back out and upon rentering the game the maps display normally again.

Most games will give you problems if you Alt/Tab out of them, B.T.W.

Hope this helps!

I dont think so. The only time I really alt tab is when I'm playing a multiplayer game to get onto the server. That by the way is a VERY NASTY BUG! Been a little wile since I played a multiplayer game though. I wonder if it was fixed with patch 1.2
Hmmm, i will go and see.

Beeryus, your argument is valid but somewhat flawed.

I've got the UZO bug and have seen the missing gun crew and I've got an Nvidia 6600. Hardly a niche video manufacturer.

The UZO is particularly annoying. To say its "an Nvidia bug" whilst true, is still a cop out. This should have been picked up during development test with either a game workaround or removal or the problematic feature.

Its not like its a corner case, its 100% reproducible.

In the screenshots Bob_v07 captured the faults aren't exactly hard to spot and I'm betting he is running either an Nvidia or an ATI as pretty much everyone does.

I wouldn't expect UBI to test on a lot of Hard drives or a huge amount of motherboards.

The key factor in this is that as a "Video Game" developer testing a large number of popular video cards should be the priority.

The number of threads I've read where players are seeing issues, like Bob_v07 in this thread, shouldn't go unnoticed by the game developers.

Having whined my whine I think SHIII is great and haven't seen nearly as many problem as other guys. Certainly no CTD's or reboots as yet.

Messervy

The developers ran out of time due to a pressure of the game community to make a dynamic campaign. UbI didn`t want to postpone the release date once again so there was no beta testing.
What we are doing now is beta testing it.
All we can do now is hope that the guys in Romania didn`t ran out of steam.
Since the SH lV has been announced - maybe (I got information from a friend who red it somewhere....etc - don`t flame me on that) hopefully the guys in Romania will appreciate our "beta testing" and fix majority of issues.

fizilbert

If I'm beta testing a game, I bloody hell want my name on the credits and a paycheck in the mail!

I truly love this game, it is great and a major step foward for the sub community, but I haven't played a game as buggy as this since Ultima 10 or whatever they were calling it.

I've had CTDs. I've had the game stop working after about 2 weeks of playing the game normally. One day I woke up, tried to play, and it just wouldn't get past the first load screen. Turns out it was a problem with one of my player profiles and I had to can that career and start over. I've had missing upgrades. I've sunk ships by ramming them with my periscope.

The sad thing is, most of the bugs people have encountered are ones that any beta tester worth half their salt would have easily encountered. The real question is whether there were beta testers, or if the developers just ignored what the beta testers had found!

Anyway....pretty neat pic, I certainly got a laugh out of it.

I tried the same argument Messervy. I gave them the "you, the consumer are responsible" bit but it means nothing I guess.

Car companies are in the same boat, no pun intended. The consumer tightens the screws and the producers put the product out before it's ready.

This is very noticable about "Windows". They do eventually fix the bugs but not before the next two versions are released, along with all their bugs. Hey, Windows 2000 works pretty good now. What's next? Longhorn. Great, then they can finish the win2x bugs and get started on winxp.

But the developers and producers always get the blame. When they realize they can't finish on time they have a dilemna; release and suffer the bugs, or delay and suffer the complaints. I think "rock and a hard place" suits this situation.

Let's not forget, the game is based on and supported by hundreds of various hardwares and softwares, all coming from hundreds of companies that have to deal with those same consumers. Then to add, the developers of SH3 are using "cutting edge" technology based on specs provided by the hardware and software developers. I'm glad I'm not a developer, I might have to get "postal" on a few consumers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Franzen I totaly agree with you. You have a VERY valid piont. Its to bad that things have to be like that. Although with the work that I do, I simply cant be rushed. I wouldn't have any customers if I did. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I was just reading another thread where someone said there was a theory about the Vatican taking in Nazis after the end of WW2. Then I opened this thread to see your pic and "20 years retired". My question, do you speak Italian with a German accent? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Just joking of course http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Fritz Franzen </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

It is irronic that you say that. I was Adopted when I was 2 years old by an Italian, I was raised as one of their own. I then saw my real father and took back on my given name. So I was of a German decent raised by Italians. But really I am nothing but a regular American like most here we are all Imagrants from some point in time. (Other than the Native Americans.) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Ha ha ha, that is ironic to say the least. This Italian, did he wear a tall pointy hat and a robe and live in one-heck-of-an influentual little city? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Now I'm curious, 20 years US Navy retired? Details please. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I was an Engineman in the US Navy for 20 years. I was in the engineroom of mostly LSD's diesel direct drive type ships. Not much more to say other than I did my time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hey BobV, you got a good point. "BobV_07" is easier to type with all your fingers than "No_Fingers_Bob" will no fingers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's a nice knife. I'm guessing you're also a collecter. I was recently in Germany a buddy (knife collector gone gun collector) gave me a few of his knives. He gave me a letter opener from about '37-38. It was from a dialy newspaper in north Germany (Braunschweiger Tageszeitung)decorated with two swastikas inset in the old roman style leaves on the end of the handle. The guard between the blade and handle is decorated with an eagle holding another swastika. It's in excellent condition and nice collector's piece.
He also gave me two paratrooper's knives. Neither are war time but rather before and after. This is interesting to me since one was before paratroopers were ever used in combat. The other doesn't interest me so much since it's post WW2. If you are interested post your email and I'll send you pics.

Wolfar, thx for the info. From the time I was about 13 I wanted to get into the Canadian Navy. I wanted a military career. My parents were totally against it and tried to stop me at every turn. After a few years and recruiting officers, I gave up. It's not so easy to get into the Canadian military; the waiting list is long. Years later I met a Marine from Virginia. She told me that at the time I wanted to join the American military were more than happy to take Canadians. Another chance missed. Then, even later I found out I was a German citizen by default. I was never informed my father became a Canadian when I was 10. So, I missed the manditory service thing in Germany, and never learnt to fold my shirts to 28cm. I guess it was just never meant to be. Now I'm 38 (to old) and in China. The biggest problem now is the Chinese uniforms are too small. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif As if. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Concider yourself lucky!
I had spent a mandatory service in the army I concidered as an occupying force, then i spent some time in the army I recconed was the proper one.
Then we all found ourselves to be at war with each other.
Nothing wrong with a war though (if you have no other way), but never, ever join the army because you think it`s adventures, interesting, masculin etc.
The high wares off in a day.

Well Messervy, I wouldn't be where I am today if I had joined the army. Back in those days I wanted in for the personal challenge. I probably wouldn't have done so well since I have a problem accepting authority from what I consider to be weaker(mentally and physically)people. I've grown out of that now, I am the boss. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
As for adventure, I think you need war to get that from the military. I imagine anything else to be simply repetative.

Agree but military serves only one purpose.
As long as there is no war it˙s the worst place to be.
When there is a war, be sure you wanted it and can cope with it.
I had simmilar inclinations when I was young and some of my friends took the easy way out. My personal pride wouldn`t let me. I˙m not sorry about it, but I gained nothing except, as you said, a problem accepting authority !

hey, thx for posting the pic for me Bob.

Here's all I know about the knives, maybe someone has something to add.

I scanned the 3 knives I mentioned. They were scanned at 300dpi so you can view the details. The Canadian quarter has the same dimensions as an American quarter.

The letter opener is most interesting to me. This would have been a gift from the newspaper to someone in a fairly high position either in a company or in politics. I'm guessing it's from the late 30's due to the wear. After '45 no one would want to be seen with it due to the markings. By '44 most Germans wouldn't have wanted to have anything to do with something marked with Nazi insignia. It was obviously used a lot. Considering it is atleast 70 years old the condition is excellent.

The two paratrooper knives are also interesting. The black handled knife is preWW2. What makes this interesting to me is that at this time, paratroopers had never seen combat, anywhere in the world. Germany was the first to use paratroopers. I don't know whether to feel the condition is bad or not. It's been sharpened by someone who obviously doesn't know how to shrapen knives. But, was it the original owner who sharpened it? I don't know, but if this is the case, then I consider the condition to be excellent.

The second paratrooper knife is in very good condition. I don't know how old it is but I know it is post war. Both knives are switch-blades although they are not spring loaded, rather depend on gravity. Point them down and press the release button and the blades fall out and lock.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

I thought that it would be fitting to bring this one back up to the front since patch 1.3 is such a winner! LOL!

I haven't had any of the problemes either. I get the guy telling me there isn't rain when there is. Big deal that is... anyway as for the guys not wearing their raingear in the rain. Well a swap of crew changes that. It's only asthetic anyway... like who cares if they aren't wearing it, it's ont like they will get wet. The game crashed on me, ONCE (so far.) I'm not worried...

Using 1.3.
