View Full Version : Funny Things About Game That Have No Effect On Gameplay

One of my favorite categories under this topic is shadows of planes. I just noticed today that the Mk. VIII CW casts a shadow of a regular Spitfire. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

This goes along with all late 109s casting an Emil shadow since waaaaay back when and still do. I guess to save code and processing power, they reuse shadows across plane families, rather than each being dynamic to the plane.

What funny things have you found about this game that have no bearing on gameplay itself, but might make you chuckle when you see it?

Another would be mirrors on planes in External 3D models, even though they are off in-game. Mostly Spits and Hurris. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Mirrors are there because they were there in real life. But they are only "off" in pit as default, but can be activated. They are off as default to save resources as they are hogs (they also two resolution settings to help with the resource hogging).

But I'd say the ever present rolling pencil of the TB-3 gives me a chuckle every time!!

Rgr, on the mirrors. I was just pointing them out, as I'm sure it would take more processing power to make them remove from the external model when actually de-activated from the pit view.

I like the times you can spot a convoy or train crossing a river without a bridge, neat trick that is.

How about magnetos? You can turn off your engine with them but that's it.

Cheers!

1) The 'default' Japanese pilot has got this really bad@$$-mustache making him look like Chris Cornell. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

2) He gets shot up, bails out & slips into a German uniform! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

3) The downed pilot is now floating in the water, ready to draw his katana if an enemy ship approaches http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The shot-up Wildcat glass that merges with the wing when you look out the right or left (or both??) side canopy. Sort of like the optical illusion of an Escher painting.

The Bf-110's right engine start up smoke that travel's between the external gauge and the engine it's self.

Yeah those gauges are actually modelled as part of the glass. If you fly through a cloud you still see them even if the engine is totally obscured.

I posted this before, but it's still pretty darned funny.

I was in an offline campaign, returning to base, and a friendly AI who was wounded was trying to land. As usually happens, someone else had already gotten clearance to land. So the wounded AI said "This is six, requesting to land". The tower responded, "(*SIGH*) negative six, go around, GO AROUND!" To which six responded "Negative tower, I'm coming in whether you like it or not!"

Um, HansK...it *is* true. Do a search in your voice files if you don't believe me. I'm at work and don't have the list here, but it is there. Please don't ever call me a liar http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pingu...that's funny!

have you ever noticed the little rectangular window positioned behind the A-20's top turret gunner? well, it looks like a normal window, until your tail section is damaged, then it shows an image of the A-20's default skin palette! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

when you fly destroyer campaign, and have to attack a soviet HQ, there's a german but enemy tank in the base, and you'll only get "mission accomplished" when you destroy it---it is an enemy tank for the stats

TheVoodooPriest

Yeah, this litle window on the A-20... You can look trough it in external view from top trough the bottomgunners window and see the ground. But when you look up trough the bottomgunners window you'll just see the ceiling of the planes interior.

I bail over home base and land in the meadow about 10 yards off the runway. My pilot runs over to the EXTREMELY busy runway and does a face plant as several planes are taking off and landing. I watch it for about 15 seconds with several close calls when a friendly comes in full flaps and skids right over my pilot killing him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

The guy that sits in the middle of a b-17; radio operator/navigator I believe. I've never once seen him bail out.

I dunno if this was fixed in PF or not but if you bailed out after ditching in water, the guy would walk on water a bit before diving in.

Also, again I dunno if this is still in, the rear gunner on the Po-2 (or some other early war russian plane biplane) was a woman. I think it was meant to be one of the "Night Witches."

I don't know if this happens in FB, but in ORIGINAL Il-2, on three occasions I have seen Sturmo crews bail out of an undamaged aircraft. I was flying the German fighter pilot campaign. On two different missions the airfield is about to come under attack as you take off. In one mission, as I came in to attack a Sturmo the pilot bailed out leaving the gunner to go down with the plane. No one had hit it, not even ground fire. I turned, found another target, and as I closed on him, both crew jumped. In another similar mission, the pilot bailed, then the gunner. Not a shot fired!

You can always tell if you have killed the gunner in a Stormovik because he falls out (they just sat on a strp..no seatbelt) if the pilot jinks the plane up hard.

It's even funnier if you're too close and the gunner falls onto your wing and breaks it off.

I just noticed another thing about Spitfire shadows. The Mk. VIII casts a shadow of an open canopy. All other Spits show a closed canopy.
