I've got SH3 up to patch 1.4 with no mods installed. Whenever i attempt to load a single mission the game will get as far as the loading screen (with the bar across the bottom) and then freeze.

I can load the campaign and even saved campaign missions, just not the single missions.

Anyone have any experience with such a problem?

Welcome to the board Visaggio.

Make sure to name the folder exactly like the mission.mis.

Where do you have your single mission from?
Maybe it is a "modded" single mission you want to play with your vanilla installation?

The game is ordered to load a modded unit that doesn't exist in the stock game.
(i.e. hospital ship or Admiral Graf Spee...)

Actually, it was the XXI mission in vanilla sh3. Never did get it to load. I've re-installed the game and it works fine.

I was attempting to determine if the individual missions created random convoys etc or if the only thing in the ocean would be the ships detailed in the mission.

I did discover that random hoards of airplanes exist, thus cutting the experiment short.

Not to create the understatement of the century, but you'll find that the aircraft menace can be quite annoying.
