The Clancy series of military shooters has been the benchmark of the genre for years---far superior to the scripted junk like CALL OF DUTY, etc. Why shouldn't a Clancy air game be good? I don't play his stuff, but everybody I know who does praises it.

I'm afraid there won't be much interest from this crowd! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

He has great novels, and fantastic games, but to be honest this is looking a little like all the other flight sims that are released for consoles.

Then again, it's best not to judge a book by its cover.

I have most of his books. My favorite is Red Storm rising, which would make a helluva game. Imagine escorting atlantic convoys, Guerilla warfare on Iceland, Torpedoeing a Russian battlegroup and modern Land warfare in Germany. Would be a mix of LOMAC, Dangerous waters, and ARMA.

You clearly didn't hear about the 1988 game for Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, and DOS named "Red Storm Rising". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Although that game was a submarine game, not the one you'd like to have.

This will probably end up being a realistically themed game like most of the other Clancy titles but it won't necessarily be dripping with difficult flight models like IL-2. Thats not a bad thing...try and remember that folks. There will be a bleed through from games like that which are authentic in nature but relatively easy to grasp to our line of more serious simulators.

If UBI even mentions the words sim and console in the same sentence they should be shot. This will be nothing more then a shootem up arcade game. Luckily I dont see the word sim in there other then the thread title. PC games are very much alive but sadly sims are not.

S!

As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to progress with less assistance, but will have to weigh the risks carefully before choosing performance over security.

Which has taken 3 patches to get it to a semi playable level, and months of free work by the community to get it to an acceptable level of play.

I rest my case.

But this Clancy fiasco will be good out of the box as it will be primarily for console, hence reality is not a factor.

IL2 has had several patches and months of work from the community (HL, skins, missions etc...even planes / cockpits) as well, and we don't complain about it, do we? nor do we http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifat Oleg.

IL2 was playable out of the box but better with patches. SHIV too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I doubt the game we talk about here will be a fiasco for UBI.
Maybe for you as it is a console one and not a sim, but still, consoles are a market, and it would be ridiculous from Ubi to ignore it.

all the clancy games I've played have been great... Ghost Recon, Raven Shield and Splinter Cell are all awesome franchises.

I'm not sure about a flight sim though...

There is no way they are getting a pc game out in 2008.

Sounds like a console port to me.

Unless they've been working on it for ages and never told anyone. It's the modern way apparently.
