Fuselage? Wing roots? Wing-tips? Where is the best place to aim for?

Engine/cockpit when deflection shooting.

If bouncing from dead six at high speed I try to dip under real quick and then come right back up and shoot the belly. Planes don't like getting shot in the belly and you have a better chance of your shots carrying through to something critical. Plus dipping down keeps you out of sight.

Since i use mainly .50s, i try and come from the top and pepper the cockpit/engine with bullets, its nice ot see a pilot kill message then have the plane slowly bank and roll into the ground http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Im currently flying the fiat g.50. 2x12.7mm Bredas (50cal.) Get within 100m, aim for the engine with a little deflection. Wing root is good too. Even with this armament, I can get kills with this method. From straight six, it won't work.

I usually aim at the point where the turret meets the main body of the tank. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As tailgunner I try to send my calling cards right down the snout of my pursuer. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

And on those rare occasions when I'm actually on someone's six...I just go for the hit, then try to fine tune my stream to the engine.

And Hunde, hopefully you guys and us can get together soon...love to see you try that belly shot on me - since my IL2 is usually less than 50m over the ground! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Use the Force Luke. Use the Force. Opps. Sorry. Wrong forum.

All kidding aside. I always shoot for a head shot. Not to sound too gruesome - I learned from flying WW1 sims where you have more time to set up a shot to go for the head (cockpit) area. I get a lot of pilot kills that way and you can tell by the way the plane reacts. Often times it just starts heading straight down if you've killed the pilot. Another good thing about aiming directly for the cockpit - even if you don't get the pilot the engine area is right behind him, or I suppose in front of him depending on how you look at it. In other words - if you miss the pilot the bullets will probably hit the engine.

Depends on the plane. Kill Spits, Migs, P-40s, P-51s and 109 with an engine shot. Also now the 190 can be killed with engine shots, unlike earlier patches. Also wings will come off of a 190 easily so wing shots can be effective.
Bombers are also susceptible to engine shots but generally the wing root area will do in most cases. Frontal attacks on bombers you can aim at the front of the fuselage where the crew compartment/ cockpit is. A Lagg usually needs a cockpit area shot for a PK. Yaks, LAs and Hurris can be killed with enough shots to anything. Try for a PK against I-153s and I-16s.

I usually go for the engine if possible on fighters. I try to avoide the main body. If I`m desperate I`ll just rake bullets along the whole aircraft (even with bombers). With luck something might give. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

since i mostly fly the p 39 and p 63 now i like to pepper the fuselage with the MGs if im at 200 - 300 m. when i get inside that i try to put a big *** 37mm round in the wing root. kills just about every plane in one hit except the 190s

I usually aim for the center section in general, a deflection shot from about 300m will usually result in hitting something vital with a good burst, or from close, range radiators from low six, cockpit from high six.

I aim for the engine with .50cals and wingroots with 20mm cannons.

Depends on what a/c you fly and what a/c you fight.
The IL2 is almost immune to Me109 guns (not 30mm). There I try the bullseye, the oil radiator.
Me109 has a most fragile engine, one 7mm round in the frontal area and it starts to smoke. The wings often got aerlion damage and the rudder got often rudder damage.
The early Mig3 is almost as fragile as the Me109.
The Lagg is tuff. It seems to take much damage
The FW got fragile wings. The bodytank is perhaps the weak point.

Well, I tend to fly mostly J8A on Virtual Pilots 2 (hightly recommendable with excellent planesettings). Shooting with the J8a low caliber you really need to get close, and shooting up close in deflection you can easily down a foe when hitting the engine/cockit. Shooting the wings / at 6 is a big nono, just wasting ammo... I agree that getting a PK without damaging the foe's planes and watch it slowly bank and dive into the sea/land is very rewarding.

You aim at the place at where you think the enemy plane is going to be when the bullets get there.

Sounds obvious... but when you think about it in those terms it does seem easier.
