Hi IL2 communtiy! I've been practicing flying with "cockpit on" which is a challenge, but worth every penny! I find myself getting a little frustrated though with using the hatswitch views...Not all that bad, but when i'm looking back at my six when climbing, performing the scissors, etc. I get turned around with the views and end up losing my direction and to much energy http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif. Other than TrackIR, what can I do until i can get TrackIR...Thanks

Just got this tip a couple of days ago.

Try mapping one of your buttons to view forward so that when you lose your orientation you just hit the forward view botton.

Works for me.

Have you tried adjusting your panning speed? In your FB folder there's a file called "conf". Copy it for a backup, then open it with notepad, and look for this group:

[HookView Config]
AzimutSpeed=0.1
TangageSpeed=0.1
LenSpeed=1.0
MinLen=1.0
DefaultLen=20.0
MaxLen=3000.0
Speed=10

That last value for "Speed" is defaulted to 6, which was too slow for me; some have it at 20, which is almost instantaneous recovery.

Also I programmed a button on my stick for "up" view, and used "Controls" to set my forward hat switch to "up/forward". Works a lot better for me. I use my left hand for prop pitch and such so I can't use mouse.

I do the same as blairgowrie. I hit 5 on my number pad to bring me to the forward view instantly. I get all turned around sometimes too. Quite easy to do actually.

Don't know how many joystick buttons you have available to you, but I have the Look Front Up Right & Left, and Look Back Up L & R views set on my HOTAS. If you don't like that, there are a number of keyboard keys you never use; assign them these views. Very useful in a DF, or when you're just looking for the enemy...

cheers

I was just gonna start up a whole new thread asking Oleg for a fix to this disorientation you mention.Ill just post it here instead.

Is it possible to have some sort of indicators in cockpits without a center bar?What I mean is that when in a view looking up where there is no cockpit obstructions at all you can get easily disorientated.With maybe a skinny line running down the middle of the cockpit would solve this as in the Fw190 series but again just a little line.

I use utility called NewView. Try it. At first it's kind unusual, but when you adjust it to your needs, you just can't fly without it! Try to search for instructions. There were many..

FBView Plus is a great alternative to the in game hat switch views. You can actually adjust the degrees of your hat switch views. S!
