My gunnery kinda sucks and I thought it would be kinda cool if we had some sort of guncamera and then I found this.

So, i was wondering if it'd work for us or is there something else? I know you can save tracks, but doesn't that cause lag?
Waddyez think?

Couldn't ya just turn off the "cockpit always on" toggle in the difficulty settings, and then hit (if I remember correctly) ctrl-F1 to go to a no-cockpit, floating in space reticle? Or is this not what you're talking about? I assume it is figuring you want to improve your deflection shooting, and being able to see your target without the plane's nose in the way would help there.

Well, cockpit off, the gunnery gets easy. I'm talking about a guncamera that would record footage when the trigger is pulled for review after a fight. Take a look at the link I enclosed in the origional post. The results are VERY realistic.

Fly your FB mission....then, whenever you are approaching a 'firing' opportunity', hit your chosen Key for "NTrk" recording... Then, after your mission, you can run the NTrk tracks, and run that track in the 'No-cockpit, gunsight reticle only option' and you will have your unfetterred 'gunsite' view-perspective, for whatever benefit it might have in improving your gunnery...

P.S. Visit my site to see a fair amount of FB-Based gun camera film clips!

Obst. Wiley is certainly the expert on this subject. I believe he (along with quite a few others) tried that utility when Il-2 was new, and though it worked, the new .ntrk feature inside Il-2 is much better I believe (as that utility is just snapping screen shots, it will show the cockpit etc. Please forgive me if I'm thinking of a different utility).

Regardless of what you use, your computer is going to take a performance hit (as I remember it took monster computers at the time to snap 15-20 frames per second in that utility you mentioned) and thus chance of 'lag' increases greatly.

To get real fancy, map a key on your joystick to turn on the .ntrk, or even 'double map' your fire key. Then just review the .ntrks after the mission with 'Manual View Control' enabled so you can turn off the cockpit and guages/reticle. Thats about as real a guncam as you can get.

Thanks for the offer...The answer is YES.... I sent a message to you, I think, using the new UBI overly cumbersome Private Topic procedure... I have NO idea how/where you get to read it...

You can EMail me at wasaf2000@cox.net though..If I previously had YOUR EMail address, I'm afraid that I have lost it...
