Great story, Bearcat!

Is this statement correct?

"So good were the black airmen that they flew 1,578 missions over Europe and never lost a single U.S. bomber they were escorting."

thanks for sharing /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Absolutely...... The 332nd never lost a single bomber to enemy fighters. I think there were a few to flak but not one to an enemy fighter.

S! to them- a comfort it must have been indeed (for the bomber pilots, of course).

As an aside, the US armed forces are today the most integrated in the world, I believe (I'm Canadian). Now, if only the rest of society could follow that lead...

"Gentiles" vs others in the US.... "Aryan" vs others in Germany...

It was a different world back then.

Bear, wonderful find and there are more stories like this one. Just about every bomber group that the TA escorted new that the "Red Tails" were going to do whatever it took to get them to the target "AND" home safely.

For those that have not had the opportunity to view our tribute to these great men, please take the time to D/L our movie entitled "Red Talied Angels". It is located on the Multimedia page on the IL-2 Forgotten Battles movie site below. Enjoy! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
