Hi Folks,

I'm new to combat flight simming, and I've just picked up a copy of the original IL-2. I've flown 'modern' civil flight sims, but this is my first combat sim, let alone vintage combat sim.

Can anyone recommend any 'required' reading regarding combat flight tactics? Links to online material would be great too. I'm finding the in-game training material adequate, but a little sparse in this department.

Thanks!

If you have more specific questions it would help.

The search function here will take you a long way, be sure to check the ORR as well as the GD (here).

For books, if you are flyign A2A, Figher Combat by Shaw is almost always recommended, and highly.

For anything else though, well, like I said, if you have more specific questions it would help. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Try this:

And check CD2 - it has an extended manual on it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the reading recommendation - I'll check it out. At this point, I don't really have specific questions, because I don't yet know what to ask http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif !

I'm actually just trying to find out as much as I can about real-world WWII combat tactics, ie; rules of engagement, what not to do and when not to do them... Though there's likely no better training than actual experience.

Thanks again!

That is a fantastic link. Great suggestions for fighting online with elements that normal WWII pilots don't encounter.

I shall use them to the best of my advantage the next time out http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I for one am glad there's a difference between Sim-Real and Real-Real http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif (fly with 25% fuel - we need bigger maps! and faster netcode)
But do fly full-real with cockpit on... you're gonne end up there anyway http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
