View Full Version : Request for object damage included in coop.lst

Dear Oleg,

Can you please include building damage names in the coop.lst file.

At the present moment destroyed buildings do not appear in the coop.lst file and as such we do not know that the buildings are destroyed. As a developer of Scorched Earth we would like to carry forward all damage forward into future missions.

As an example here is a very simple mission.

We currently have a working beta - and continue to work on completing a fully dynamic war for forgotten battles using a custom built program to capture past missions and generate new missions based on players orders.

Being able to add particular destroyable objects would be nice.

We use 'factories' and trainyards, etc.. in Forgotten Skies (http://www.forgottenskies.com) and it works pretty well.

We place fuel tanker cars inside the buildings.

Good work around, but what you ask for would be nice - I think the team might think of this for BoB for sure.

We would do something similar - but the other thing is just the tide of war destroying things. If you have troops in a town - and have artillery firing on that - buildings and objects are constantly getting destroyed.

What we want to do is to carry the building damage forward. Already we can do it for bridges but the buildings damage names arent listed in the coop.lst file.

By reporting this info we can now carry that info forward and carry forward city damage mission to mission.

Another example of why we need the object details and ground object details is that fuel tanks in industrial areas near ports could contain fuel supplies.

It would help to have the details of plane 3 destroyed fuel tanks at 187650 34879.

In a series of coops - destroy the fuel tanks and the side loses fuel supplies.

Also the game has stations - trains arrive at the stations - but if we attack the stationa nd destroy the station - there is no mention of it in the coop list file.

At the present moment you dont know that the AI have gone out and done what you requested.

An updated (but still pre-beta) version of the Scorched Earth Mission Planner interface can be inspected at

with the "admin" + "password" login. Have a look at the "Whole Crimean Sector" map first, to get your bearings, then look at some district and city maps. There are still a few mis-identified units, and the code is still in development, but if you play around with it a bit you will see its power. Essentially it is a like a FMB running in a web browser with an ADO back-end. This is how commanders will create movement orders for ALL units in Scorched Earth.

PS: It only works properly with Internet Explorer v.5 or greater. No go with Opera or Netscape, mainly because of the heavy use of IE-specific CSS and the "contextMenu" method.

As Taipan says - it would really help the emersion level if the damage state of specific buildings could be carried forward from coop mission to coop mission. Plus it would add a new level of strategy in terms of destroying factories and the supplies (like fuel) stored and/or built inside. And to do this all we need is a simple log entry. How about it Oleg???

If we can get a report on what objects are destroyed in a coop we can then produce a list of all objects destroyed for future COOP missions. Other examples are :-recording damage at airbases including hangars, and fuel tanks.

I had asked Oleg this for Forgotten Skies. His response below:

"At this moment it is impossible, due to fact that we will need to rework a lot of things. For example right after that we will need to rework all scores systems for all modes of the game... Its really not easy."

Thanks recon - well back to doing it the hard way i suppose.

Itll be a case of hiding other objects in the game inside buildings and using that as the trigger to identify destruction.
