Do they make it with out the Tv out and all the other stuff? I'm lookinig but not hitting one yet. I already have the Tv pro wonder card from ATI so I don't need that stuff on vid card.

Mine is a Sapphire and one of the most inexpensive at Pricewatch, and it has TV out.

I have an ATI made 9800 pro, and not only did it come with TV out, but a S-Video cable, a regular cable (composite?), and an adapter for S-video to composite video. Oh and it came with an adpater for the other monitor plug to turn it into a standard VGA port. Pity it didn't come with a game though...

Ok so the saphinre is another maker other than ATI radeon sort of like when chaintech maks Nvidea cards.

I've had good luck with Asus, chaintech,MSI,and Gainward in the nivida chipset.

How does this saphire hold up.

There's been some info in the past on them not being as reliable but I haven't had one problem. I've had mine for a few months now.

Toad,

I totally understand your concern. I am a die-hard NVidia fan. I havent owned an ATI card since my Rage 128! I have been milling over this for a month now at least.
my main concern for upgrading was the fact that my low FPS was starting to hurt my 40 year old eyes after an hour or so of playing.

After a lot of reading and advice, I ordered the Saphire 9800 Pro. Price was a great concern as we public servants dont make much jingle. The card is well within my price range.

I think my only concern (As I have already voiced) is the stock cooling on this card. It may not be what I want IF I decide to overclock. I have pretty good case cooling and my board runs under 30C, CPU around 45C at high load. So, I may upgrade the cooling later if I decide to run the card hotter.

I tell you what. I should receive this card either tomorrow or Thursday. I will tell you what I think once I put it through the paces. I only get roughly 1000 on 3DMark03 with my current card, and all the reviews I have read say this one gets over 5000. I should see some major improvement in FPS (Currently getting between 15-20 with 2xAA and excellent settings). I'll help be your test subject in this matter.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I run ASUS A7V8X-X
AMD 2600 XP
1024 PC2700 <-weakest link now
450W Power supply
Everything cooled by Thermaltake Hairdryer fans.

Cool Much appreciated. I usually always try and buy top of the line 1 year late when I upgrade. But I'm not spending no $300+ for the ASUS card. I could be swayed maybe to the $200 range of the radeion but the saphire if it performs is lookinf like a scantly dressed flusy and I'm am feeling a bit weak over it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

Cooling is a concern for me aswell.

I have an Antec case with 5 80 mm fans 3 sucking 2 blowing
the 450 watt PS has 2 fans sucking as well
My temps stay real nice in there for now.
I have an ASUS mobo with a P 2.4 800ht cpu
and a gig of ram

Toadie! ~S~
I've owned both nvidia and ATI

Frankly...I'm not loyal to either one, I have a 9700pro Tachyon now and like it. I'm thinking the next card may be nvidia, mostly cause they frequently russle up different driver sets and I dont mind changing. The one thing about ATI when I got it it seemed like forever before they released a new driver, that does seem to be changing, but over all if you spend upwards of 200.00++ you get a fine card.
The biggest change for me was a change like going from Ti4200 to the 9700pro, I dont think subtle changes are worth the bucks, i.e. like going from 9700 to 9800 or 9700 to GeForce4 Ti 4800 or similar.
But if you've got a slug now, defineatly upgrade, graphics in aces is whoot whoot

Hey Dawg S!

well I've got a Ti4600 128 4x AGP PNY card now. So it should make a difference I think. I just ran The Black Death and this was what I got.

Pic is fuzzy after resizing to fit here score is
fps 9 avg:12 max:26 min:8 #fr:1022

So what do you think?

3Dmark 2003 is a DX9 benchmark, since IL2:FB is DX8 i'd run 3Dmark2001 and look at that score. You probably getting very low scores in 3Dmark 2003 because your card isn't DX9 capable and cannot run the DX9 commands.

Besides, IL2:FB runs allot better in OpenGL no matter what the card and Nvidia cards have always been very strong with OpenGL performance.

I'd personally get a 9800 pro or if you can find one a 9700 pro as there very cheap but very powerful, more so than any 9600 XT/Pro. If you don't mind updating your drivers more regularly then the Nvidia FX5900 Ultra is a great card from OpenGL games like IL2:FB.

OK Toad.. here is my review after playing with the card for 30 minutes...

WOW!

That's all I have to say. Everything maxxed out, I am getting (Worst 35 frames) averaging around 40-45. If I strip away just a few things like trees, that number jumps up, but after playing with 9-17 FPS on excellent, I think I can handle 40-45 on perfect. The thing I noticed immediately was that my deflection shooting was easier. I guess this is because my eyes werent contending with a slide show, and I was able to visualize my tracking better.

Yeah, TOAD, this is the card for you. Man I just cant describe the quality of the video I am getting over my FX5200 junk card.

Again, I have to say that I am NOT easily impressed, and was a die-hard NVidia fan.

I am very pleased with the Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. (And I havent even begun to tweak it yet!)

Now a technical note. I dont like the looks of the stock cooling on this card. Even compared to my Gainward FX5200, the fan looks tiny in comparison. I will not attempt to overclock it without better cooling, but believe me when I say, I always engineer things way beyond necessity. (It is my nature) For example, my Christmas tree stand is made of 2.5ft x 2.5 ft of 1/8" thick, 2x2 box tubing, double welded. I could mount a Mack truck on it, and it weighs more than my tree with all the orniments and lights combined. (Probably more than the orniments, lights, their boxes, and the store display shelves they were on when I bought them!) So, for me the fan looks cheesy. With the cooling you posted before (Case wise) I tend to think you like overengineered stuff too. But honestly, your cooling will be adequate.

The card uses the better 2.2ns Samsung RAM, so overclocking will be a treat.

OK, once again.. I am very very impressed. You will be as well TOAD, I promise!

The VGA silencer dropped my 9800pro's temps by 50% and raised the overclocks.

http://www.arctic-cooling.com/en/products/vga_silencer/

On high speed its even quieter than the ati hsf and its dead silent on lo speed.

Awesome product.

I know what you mean about over engineering. My A64 is running a 12x8 hayden transmission cooler and a 265gph aquarium powerhead. Oddly its very quiet because everything is under my desk and there is no need for a cpu hsf.

Fehler i have the sapphire 9800pro with 2.8ns RAM aswell and im very pleased afcourse
the stock cooling on the sapphire is fine by me ,i have 2x120mm fans plus 1 80mm so my case cooling is excellent
anyway i can overclock the 9800pro well beyond XT speeds with the stock cooling currently its about 430 GPU 380 Ram and its doing fine no artifacts in FB ore 3Dmark (score 6500) so i would say you can go ahead http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
