Wayno, you rule. I can't believe someone remembered! Thanks for the support.

I had to go straight to work right after the tryout http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif which is where I am right now. (obviously bored and doing nothing.)

Anyway, the tryout was um, interesting to say the least. The pitchers sat around for an hour and a half waiting for all the infielder, outfielders and catchers to be evaluated. Then they split us up into two groups, each one using a different bullpen to throw in. The catcher I had was convinced I was throwing around 90 mph and I felt pretty good with my velocity. I get up to the mound where they clock you and I threw the standard 7 pitches. It's incredible how they think they can evaluate your entire ability from 7 throws...Anyway, word got round that the radar gun had to be busted on our side. They said no one on our side broke 83 mph! We all laughed at first because most of us can throw 83 in our sleep. But then came the individual evaluations...The head of the tryout takes you aside and tells you how you performed. This guy BTW didn't even watch you play, he's just reading off a card that the guy recording pitches made. He said that I didn't even break 80!!! I was furious but I had to laugh. Everyone laughed on my side.

All in all, I learned some things from the experience and I can honestly say that I tried my best which is what matters, right? I saw a kid on the other side throw 92 mph which was pretty cool. At least I got my name out there and I got a pretty good tan too, lol. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I still have 2 years left to lift my butt off and WOW the scouts so I'm not too disappointed.

I do want to thank those of you who voiced your support. It was much appreciated and I promise to make you all proud in the coming years.

Dude, I've been talking about your oportunity to do this to all my buds. Sounds to me as if you actually did very well, and got to do something that alot of us only dream about . . . and you probably aren't finished. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

Wow tsisqua that makes me feel good to hear that you were that excited about my opportunity. And Kas, don't feel bad, I'll make it someday and I promise that Corvette of yours will find a good home in my driveway http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

Like I said before, I tried my best. I can't do anything else. There's just something inside of me that tells me that I WILL make it one day. I promise I'll be back later. The Phillies are only 1 team and while it would be cool as hell to pitch in my hometown, there are 30 other teams out there that may want me someday. All I can do is try to be as best prepared as possible. To the weightroom I go...

I do feel bad in a way but I am more glad that you haven't taken to bad to this. If anything it gives you experience that you didn't have before. Yea, it would be sweet to pitch in/near your home town, but something better and more fruitful might be a little further away and alittle harder to get to. Keep at it Owl, it'll pay off. The vette's still here, lol. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ah Dang http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I was hoping to hear better news. But as others have mentioned you are further than most of us got. Are you playing Ball right now? Surely you'll get another chance if they new the Radar was busted. Fingers crossed!

TOAD I have 2 more years left of college baseball http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif. I can't really be disappointed because I still have those two years to get better and showcase myself. It's all good.

And cd_jakev I'll go easy on your Mets, but I DESPISE the Yankess, so all bets are off with them. Thanks for the compliments as well.

Buddy, even if it never goes beyond today you will be able to tell a grandkid someday about how you got a tryout with the pro's.

How cool is that.

Owls,

Before Ivan spanks us for the OT, let me steer us slightly in at least a Russian direction by recommending incorporating kettlebells into your workouts.

http://www.russian-kettlebell.com/articles/kettlebell.html

More information is readily available through web searching. Best of luck,

LZ

Udidtoo - Yes, I am proud that I will always be able to say that I got a look, but would you be satisfied with just a look? Me neither. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Lima, those kettlebells truely are a "Forgotten" Excercise http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif . Seriously, with those studies showing how great they are, maybe I should just be chucking kettlebells around all day eh?

Edit: Damn, those kettlebells are expensive. I was looking into actually getting some too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Owls,

And the shipping cost is a serious mo-fo too!

The way to do it is get a group of your freinds and each buy one, then leave them at a common workout place. Still painfully expensive but at least less so.

The ironic thing is that I work in a fitness center! I would get some kettlebells but being that I get to lift for free at my fitness center, I don't think the KB's are gonna happen. Maybe when I'm making bajillions in the majors http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

All I can say is...you have the right attitude about this. Man I envy you. Opportunity will knock again, and with your attitude, I'm sure you'll be ready. Good Luck man!

BTW...keep thinking PIRATES!! (From what I see they always seem to need pitchers..especially lefties.)

The pitchers were joking at the tryouts that the reason the Phillies don't have good pitching is because they think everyone throws 83 mph http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'd definitely go play for the Pirates given the opportunity. (I'd play for anyone given the opportunity, but Pirates are about 26 teams higher than say, the Yankees on my list http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

My dad went to Baltimore and saw a t-shirt that he was gonna get for me. I have always had a thing for the Orioles but this shirt was awesome. It said, "I support two teams...the Orioles and any team that beats the Yankees."

If the Washington DC team becomes a reality, maybe you can try out for them. Then I'll be a big fan of yours. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Right now, I have no team to root for. And the Orioles management is playing hardball with the proposed Washington team, that it has made me root AGAINST the Orioles instead of for them.
