Hi space monkeys!

I've been waiting for this game since I've finished the first one back on my good old PS2... When I saw the announcement I didn't believe it, finally it's coming, and it's gonna be so good! Anyway, I just couldn't avoid to draw/think/dream about the game, about how it could work, how life will be in such a large universe!

So here I come to you, with my little drawings and ideas, it's just a start, yesterday I went mad, draw the all day, leaving aside all my current projects... So if you like it I'll keep posting here, to make me (and you?) dream about how the game could be and maybe to give some ideas to the devs. I believe in the vision of M. Ancel and of his team, but we never know!

First I began to think about other hybrids. I love the idea, the implications about this slave revolution, or how it speak to us about technology and the danger coming with it, about the importance of animal life and the way we're actually destroying it for our own good... So, what should I do? A mammal, definitly. I don't know if there is any rules concerning hybrid technology, apparently sharks can become hybrids, so does it open the gates to any kind of fish? Or did they just assumed sharks where mammals? hehe.

But I wanted to play with scale, I watched again all the videos about the game, and it's a big component of the general idea: Scale.

I came out with this hybrid-rat idea, he combine the size of the rat, but with a human intelligence. A bit of back-story: When theses hybrid where thank and created, humans where using them as engineers and mecanics. They where sended inside the motors of big space ships to repare them, fix issues and also to upgrade some technologies that became obsolete. Cause they're so small they could go anywhere without having to totally open the ship's engine and could directly go throught the tunnels and pipes of these labyrinthic structures... A dangerous "job" where thousand of rats died due to explosions or to oil leeks, but who cares? They're just rats...

Yeah right! But when they began their revolution, they became an active force against the masters, starting to play a bit, to do some sabotage, going inside these iron monster's bellies and put some explosive there, open this gaz pipe, close this evacuation, some more explosive over here... And boom! Eventually they got back to there first job, but as free rats, getting hired in some pirates crews to fixe they motors and support the attacks of other ships by doing some "modifications" on the engines, 'know what I mean!

I imagine a part of gameplay where you are the rat and you need to put different C4 explosives inside a ship in order to damage/destroy it. Imagine getting in the ship with your character, thanks to your jetpack, then put the rat that was in your pocket on the floor and start to control him, to go in air vents and find your way inside the pipes/engine until you can leave your bomb of open a certain acces... It would push a bit more the level of scale: Planet-mothership-small ship-character-engine, without any loading screen hehe. Plus it would add a different type of gameplay and a new member of your crew that you need to hire, with different types of rats, some bigger than others, some smarter than others.

My second idea came from my actual job, I'm currently working in a rescue center, taking care of different animals, but mostly of chimpanzees that have being used in zoos, circus, publicity or as pets... These are really sads stories of abuse, mistreatment and psychological disorder. Animals are much more intelligent that what we think, and being locked in a cage, being tortured by circus to perform tricks or simply being kept alone without any other of his own kind destroy them from the inside. So the point is to give them a gently, honest and respectful end of life, they won't go back to the wild, but at least they will be happy chimps in their new families!

In the world of BGE2, millions of former slaves will have to go back to a normal life. I imagine they will need places like our rescue centers, to educate them, to help them... But most of all childrens will need a place to grow, where it's safe and worm. Where they can learn how to live without the masters. I draw a human but I imagine that former slaves would take care of these places, helped by humans.

I thought about it thinking of the lore/backstory of the world, so it would be just one of the many stories of the universe, could be just spoken by a new crew member that meet a former friend from one of these centers.. Or it can be a side quest, to help one center because it's getting attacked and hybrid are getting kidnaped, I dunno!

And for the last drawing, a badass elephant hybrid, because... It's so badass!!! An elephant with a baseball bat and tatoos!

I'm french sorry if I've made some spelling mistakes :/ And finally I would like to remind that animals don't have to were cloth. These are hybrids, please keep animals away from our human sickness and let them be, naked and free!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your work and stories! I personally like your art style, it reminds me of Mike Mignola. Keep it coming, and thanks for being a part of the Space Monkey Program!

Really happy to see that more and more fans are coming and pouring their ideas and talents :o
The fact that you work in a rescue center I think gives you a very realistic idea about how could be hybrid slavery in this sci-fi scenario and I really hope this could create more awareness about the treatment we give to our animals.

Thanks guys! I'm gonna continue, anyway, I can't stop haha!

UbiBorghal: It's normal, Mignola is one of my bigest influence, among others, but I love his style and how he's telling stories!

ElPrimordial: I really believe this is gonna be one of the messages of the game: animal rights and how to fight for it. Like the first one was about press freedom, information, desinformation, corruption and resistance, I hope this one is gonna talk about how we should treat animals and how we could live together, SHARING the world, not exploiting one another..

Completely agree with this, hybrids are a perfect ground to talk about human AND animal exploitation. I deeply hope it will be the case and will do it awesomely.

Very nice job by the way G4hz :)

Man, art style is dope, love it, it fits so well with BGE's world. I can totally imagine that elephant revolutionary being a close friend of Pey'J's.

Also great storytelling and world building ideas, keep up the great work!

Hi,
After watching the livestream i feel a little bit touch when they said that they were looking for different parts of the world for inspiration, i think i have a good candidate for maybe get some inspiration because not only my home town was born by the hand of inmigrants, my whole country did it, and it created some very interesting settings to drink about.

I'm from Argentina, a kinda known country (i think) and i live more specifically in Buenos Aires, This whole state is full with little chunks of parts of other country and i have had some issues with miscomunication and intolerance between pairs before. the city i'm interested in posting is La Boca, a small town, very colorful made entirely by inmigrants who arrive in boats from the coast of the atlantic sea, and lived here.

It's very famous in the country and makes for such a colorful view. The colorful view is because the inmigrants when they came they didn't have money to paint their "houses" (they where mansions before abandoned because of a fleu that killed a lot of people before) so they take the paint from the boats and painted their houses, making it last longer and very colorful.

I think i draw a lot of parallels with the kinda of game a cultures you're trying to mix in. These people didn't change their culture, they mixed with the one here, and created a practically new culture, mixing their language with ours and creating basically a new one.

Thanks everyone for your responces! It really keep me motivated!

Fran these photos are precious! I love this kind of cities, and I trust the team to build colorfull places, like the space ships inspired by actual ships! I just hope they're gonna ask people that live in these country about ideas and references..

I got back to play to my good old jak and daxter games, especially Jak 2 who take place in the futur, with flying cars and motorcycles. If you want to play a great game with decent plot and in this kind of world you should try it! Plus it inspired me a lot, the different zoomers are gorgeous, the landscape is beautifull and they created it kind of the same way as BGE. Meaning the city as an history, different districts talks by them sellf, the new city is build on an old one so you can really feel that people could live there.

Here's some new concepts, zoomer inspired:

So as you can see perspective, or even vehicules are not my strenght, but I tryed! The second one looks a bit odd, I'm sure its due to the pers.. But hey, I'm happy with it! Remember, if you have any ideas I could draw or that you're thinking about and you want it illustrated, please tell me, I just need inspiration!

I loved the original Zoomer. Maybe a cheap one still with propellers? :D
I would celebrate such a vehicle so hard. Zoomer4Life xD
Following arts are from the interwebs. But I hope we have something along these lines in BGE2^^ The bike we saw was quite close already.

I always missed the mechanical stuff on those new ones.

The thing flies at 1:01. I could not set the start for that time over the forums. But I still think today that this looks cool.

Since airplanes can go very fast I thought we could have vehicles also using propellers to stay afloat or something. Well perfect usecase would be the cheapest "Zoomer" bike to get in the game. Like after the Tuk-Tuk or as a other Space Tuk-Tuk^^
Wishful thinking.

Thruster with spinning frame would be cool, depending on speed. Much like a turbine but invertet.

Jak and Daxter is my second favorite game of all time (take a wild guess at the first). In defending BGE2's seemingly darker tone I've used the jump between the Precursor Legacy and Jak 2 as an example of how it can work out just fine.

Jak 1 and BGE1 are open world games but with a much more focused and linear path and lighter themes (I use that word lightly, there IS Human Trafficking in BGE1 and a psychopath twisted beyond recognition by Dark Eco abuse in Jak 1). Jak 2, and I'm assuming BGE2 are more focused on a true open world and more serious themes, but still keep that essential charm that made you fall in love with the original.

Damn, now I really wan't to play Jak 2.

I got a PS3 recently (new TIM due to burn up and it is a Fat version :D) and replayed the collection some months ago xD
Fascinating how such a old game could show a way of how to take on things^^
I wish Naughty Dog would have time to fix up Jak&Daxter for new adventures... maybe in 15 years :D

Thanks for your answers guys, I knew there would be some Jak and Daxter fans hidden over there :D I agree with you Legion, old zoomers where a bit more "vibrant" and "alive" but technology is really outdated for the world of BGE hehe! But yeah just design talking I complitly agree, I'm gonna try some others

And I completely agree with you Iris, the two video games are some how connected, and I think you're right about the way things are gonna get darker, like for Jak 2. BTW you should definitely play it again, it's SO awesome! I've started with the first one and couldn't stop until the end of the third :D Thought Jak and Daxter is a bit short, when I was a kid I remember struggling during weeks or even month to finish it, I spend two days this time! But still, it's beautifull, and poetic, and fun... And it was the first game I got on my PS2, good choice dad! Getting back to BGE! I hope they're gonna achieve what naughty dog did with Jak, to make it more mature, but (like you said) without breaking the essential charm of the first game.

Right now I'm working on two projects at a time so I don't really have time to draw more about BGE but if I have new ideas or if someone give me one (please do it, I'm telling this everytime but, I only need inspiration!!) I'll post them here!

See ya all soon space primates!
