Just curious. With the imminent release of the AEP, does anyone think a virtual western front will become a reality now?

I see a few views, but no opinions. Must be an old subject that's seen better times

I don't think I've seen enough maps mentioned to call it a 'virtual Western Front'. It certainly will make Western Front missions better though.

Nah. Apart from the B-17's and P-51's for the American crowd I don't see any real Ubi commitment to the Western Front. There certainly isn't much interest in modelling the RAF for FB now that Oleg's doing his BoB thing.

I think the addition of a few more maps and a few more planes....like the ones already promised in the AEP and the ones coming after, a VWF is a possibility. Its the maps that are the key. There is no way to get ALL the planes but what we have now and what we are getting comprises the major players.... surely enough for a decent VWF.... all we need are the maps... The Spit Vs are coming...the SpitIXs and the Tempest are coming..... we have Bfs,FWs and Stukkas out the yinyang.... The Pony,P-40 & P-47 are here.... (not forgetting the P-39) AI B-17s....B-25s are coming...B-24s are coming..... we have decent ground objects...... all we need are decent maps. I think..and this is just my opinion... that even though we may not get enough maps for the entire western front... Oleg has a few surprises in store for us. I forsee more western maps before its all out..... and I see a final add on...free or paid I cant say of mostly maps...... I know the graphics engine is different but I wonder if the template could be the same for BoB maps?

From a practical standpoint, it would take far fewer maps to cover the Western ETO than the war in Russia; there is less territory to cover.

1- Southern England is needed for obvious reasons.

2- A western Scandinavian map would be helpful because the Germans used Norway fjords so extensively and LW planes defended the area. Also, the northern route was used by the 8th AF frequently to attack Germany.

3 - A larger map of the Ardennes including Western Germany would make the Battle of the Bulge air battles more realistic (like Janes WWII).

So it shouldn't be out of the question. What else do we need (assuming we get some medium bombers by summer)?

I'd love to have at least number 3. Ardennes forest and the Rhine. At least some of it...Normandy map sized would do.

I doubt that we'd get the British maps because of the conflict with BoB. Other required maps would include the Pas de Calais/Abbeville airfields, something in Brussels, something in Holland, and maybe a map of Western Germany. A map for the Dieppe raid would be interesting (The RAF's biggest action since the BoB).

As far as planes go the real gap right now is with the RAF. The Spit ix and xiv variants we're getting weren't widely used by the RAF before the war's end, but they were there. (To be fair, they look like nice models though) The Typhoon is in the works, as is the Tempest & Beaufighter. The Brits also used the Mitchell and the Boston/Havoc. That leaves the Mosquito, the heavy bombers and the transports to be modelled.

Still, I don't expect a complete WTO unless Oleg farms it out to a 3rd party - which I doubt. My guess is that we'll get in a few more 3rd party planes, but that's about it. But hey, I'm willing to be surprised!

Hm... I was hoping there was going to be an off-line campaign over the western front.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I'm cancelling my purchase of AEP. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
