Great!

Funny how all the late war designs started to meld into one another with aerodynamic developments and the preference for bubble canopies, etc. That late Spit looks quite like a Typhoon from certain angles apart from the whopping great airscoop on the latter's nose.

More of an early war man meself, Mk.1 is a thing of beauty.

Cheers,

the Spitfire will not be in the first patch ... it is going to be a while b4 we get her in FB

it might be on the ADD-ON Dics

ive been B n Z a lot in the Hurricane ( i still get em tho ) & when the Spitfire comes out i will be Hunting regular BF 109 pilots EXCLUSIVLY for the first 2 weeks

no more will they have a smug "" im climbing away to safety "" smile on their face

& if they ever try to turn .......... heh heh

Sorry, but what little (and I do mean that) I know of the Spitfire is that it was sorely under-gunned, i.e. .313 (or something like that) rifle rounds, and that's it. Am I mistaken?

Also, I'm sure a lot of people who have IL2 or FB also have one of microsoft' flight sim's so I thought I'd add some news. I just purchased an add on for CFS2/FS2k/FS2k2 with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. It has several versions of the Spitfire, two versions of the Hurricane, a Douglas DC-3 in British livery, two versions of the Chipmunk, and a Lancaster. It's pretty well done, actually. The manual alone made it worth the $18 bucks I paid for it here on base.

I hope I don't get this thread locked because I (gasp) mentioned a MS product!

What would Col. Kit Carson say if he would see this bulgy F22 with bulges at the wing and over the engine, a bubblecanopy with more drag and a bad influence at the aerodynamic, or this terrible big cooler under the wing and the fuselage!!!

Since I just joined an RAF squad. I want the Spit more than ever now. I'll just have to poke around in the Hurricane meanwhile.

the spitfire was never shot down

the spitfire never stalled

the spitfire never missed

the spifire locked on & downed every single Air Craft whose six it got onto

if they brought the Spitfire back out of retirement for service again the F 22 would be in BIG trouble baby

original mk1 spits had 4 x .303 Brownings (pre war)
Mk1a 8 x .303 Brownings
Mk1b 2 x 20mm Hispano Cannon 4 x.303 Brownings (had probs with cannon feed so were converted to mg's again ( if i'm not thinking of hurricanes)

Mk2a
Mk2b both same as a&b above (mk2 fixed feed problem on cannon)

i'm not going to try and notate the rest as there were well over 20 Mks (and most had subtypes aswell)

the main combinations of armament were

8 .303's
2 20mm Cannon 4 .303s
2 20mm cannon 2 .50's
4 20mm Cannon

Wow....sweet!!!!! I like this community so much....even though it isnt perfect..the way things are done with the code and all..well you know that any new addons will be of a certain quality.... not like some of the open source user built stuff in other sims...although some of that stuff is quite good, we know that ALL of our stuff will be good..even if it takes a little longer to get and you may not neccessarily like the FM, still you know it will always be done to the same high standard graphically.

give us a spitfire 21 with razor back those wings it had contra rotating propellors and 4 20mms ! tho im dreaming

The best looking spitfire is probly the VIII it kept alot of aerodynamic features from the VII, most of them went to asia and australia.

The first spit we are getting is a clipped wing bubble canopy XIV, their were razor back no clipped XIVs, i know one commander refused to let his squad use clipped and bubble canopy spitfires saying they were not spitfires, and lucky for his boys they got some of the more spitfire like XIVs :P

Okay, for ease of reference, there were only ever 4 different gun variations on the spitfire. The mark number may change, but the weapon designation is always the same.
e.g a=8x0.303in machine guns
b=2x20mm cannon, and 4x0.303in machine guns.
c=Universal wing, so called because with this wing, you could have 2x20mm and 4x0.303, or 4x20mm, or 4x20mm and 4x0.303 (never used, too much weight, not enough room for ammo).
e=2x20mm cannon and 2x0.50cal machine guns.

d was never used on the spit, but was used on the hurricane. d is the 40mm (?) gunpods for anti tank work.

So a Ib, IIb, and Vb, all have the exact same armament. You will find that most late war spits (IX's, XIV's, XVI's) are either 'c' wing, or more likely 'e' wing.

The above 2 photos of the spit with the contra prop aren't spit 22 (roman numerals weren't used after the PRXIX), but are actually of a Royal Navy FR.47 (note arrestor hook in the tail, fuel injector air intake just behind the prop like P-51)

As I can see in my library, the F.22 production begun on 21st of March 45 and 260 were built.
