I'd definitely like to get into aircraft design if I can but I know there's a lot of hurdles. What are the BASIC programs that you need to be able to use to create aircraft for IL2/FB/AEP? Eg. GMAX? I'm sure this comes with Battlefield 1942 or FS2004 or something. What else?

Actually, for whatever reason, GMAX won't do. Your final product needs to be in 3ds MAX 3-5.1 format. So basically you need MAX 3-5.1 and Photoshop or whatever you prefer to paint textures with. Once the 3d model is finished and correctly set up (pivots, for example), you send it off to Maddox Games and if they approve it they will do all the coding necessary to bring the plane into the game.
