View Full Version : My Hopes For Pacific Fighters

As I work on my water cooling project and prepare for my last ever post on UBI forums, which will be on the subject of water cooling, I just wanted to express my hopes for the new game.

1) I hope most will chose the version of the game that includes everything from IL-2 FB. That way, the community won't be split and there will be more of something for everyone.

2) I hope they will get some heavy bombers going for the Allied side. The four engine bombers are needed and having them missing in action in a flyable sense not only leaves a large audience out of the loop, but it's just plain silly.

3) I hope they finally get the bomb loadout right on the P-47 and get the HVRA's and also rockets for the tank busting P-51's.

4) I hope they increase the intelligence of AI all around and Allied copilots specifically. I'm tired of hearing...

This is 2, Roger, engaging

yeah, right! The bugger still follows me around like a lost puppy trying to run into me and never fires a round.

5) I truly, truly hope that the development team will rid themselves of anyone who has ever done beta testing for them. If beta tester for IL-2 Fb appears in your signature, it is a mark of shame, not a badge of honor.

6) I hope the development team does not make the new game any more demanding on PC's than the currect game. Our gaming computers are already so far ahead of the curve that asking for more will further limit the audience for this game.

7) I hope they include a sticky or a link in the read me to Luckyboy's Guide For Complete Users. In fact, if you think this is a self promoting thing, change the name of the guide and keep the content. The guide, with the exception of my psychotic diatribe on heating and power issues does not have a single, original Luckyboy idea in it. The information is the proven results from mostly contributions from IL-2 FB Community Help forum. Instead, for the first time (and why it took someone like me to bring it to you should be a warning sign of how selfish this community has become) most of the basic questions are set out in a fairly decent, easy to use page that isn't hard on dial-up users or simply consist of a list of links to other sites. The guide is written by a complete user for complete users, but of benefit to all, so ignore it and that's your business.

8) I hope they ban the expression "noob" or anything like it in these forums. You eggheads wanna know where the money comes from to develope new and improved flight sim games? Also, if you haven't been so brain dead to notice, there hasn't been many good offerings lately and with the exception of Oleg and his Bucket 'O Bolts band, I don't see anyone doing anything worth spitting at much less buying in flight sims. Our collective snobery is killing this game! You are not so smart or unique or special! UBI and Co. will simply say, "The financial numbers no longer work" and the board meeting will be over!

9) I hope they keep the online play so that people on 26 KB per second up and down can play well (maybe not host well, but at least join games) on a well managed (see Luckyboy's Guide For Complete Users for details on proven methods of doing just that) system. Yes, I've got cable. I'm not saying it isn't nice. I am saying one of the great strengths of this game is the ability to interact with people from around the world, especially those in dial-up land.

10) I hope they put back at least a small amount of random mechanical failures. Even 1 in 1,000 would be an improvement. Pretty silly to squat big time with the thought of "immersion" (I was immersed once when I fell in the feedlot back on the farm) when your guns will never jam, every round is prefect and you never get a flat tire or an engine that won't start. Can we say, "the age of points in ignition systems and no computer controlled or monitored engines and systems" boys and girls?

11) I hope Oleg makes so much money off this game he can buy Cousin Billy's Geekfantasy Island right out from under his flat feet! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

I will no longer participate in these forums after that post on water cooling i already promised, but I'm far from leaving the game. I've found a good group of people to play with by direct IP and you won't see me as much on HyperLobby as a result. Still, I'll be around and the guide will continue to be updated. If you like the guide, put a link to it in your signature.

One more thing to add about the AI intellengence. How about your wingman not shoot you down to get to the enemy. Happens to me all the time, I track or get into a good position behind any enemy and from no where my stupid AI wingman opens up on me trying to get to the enemy, just to make sure it was my wingman I paused the game and went to an outstide view.

No offense, but if you choose to leave the Forums, that's your affair. The air of secrecy doesn't really change the fact that you are choosing to leave. The reason's up to you, but the announcement is kinda, well, dramatic

Luckyboy, sorry to hear your posts will be no more.
Why I don't post much myself - I have always enjoyed reading your posts and your take on things.
It will be missed my at least one Corsair driver here!!!
BTW - Thanks for your support for dail-ups, as one still stuck on DU, always nice to have a friend that understands that side of things. Seems once people go to DSL/cable side they no longer remember the way it was on the slow side...

why blame the beta testers - don't you know that what they report doesn't always get coded?

I don't understand that - if you think the beta testers didn't report something that was obvious, fine, but to think that because something is broken = wasn't reported....well, that is false.

Beta testers were never told what was fixed from version to version - you didn't even know what was changed - so... take it easy on the tester will ya http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've watched as a casual observer of some beta testing for this game. It consists primarily of a short list of like minded people who want to try out the cool new planes and the skins they had made in anticipation of using. They compliment each other on their skins and miss much in the way of hard testing. To begin with, code is punched along lines of calculus and one of the seemingly odd things about calculus is that 1 + 1 does not always = 2. The statement is something more along the lines of 1 + 1 has the highest probablility of being 2. Seems like I'm splitting hairs at first, but the end result is you can test once and it will run fine. You've got to run it; then again and again using the same criteria each time many times to rule out bugs. To have missed the very universal spawn bug or the sound bugs is just plain silly. To say Oleg would'nt fix it or even acknowledge it was discovered and not yet fixed is crazy! No, beta boys, you don't rate anything except school boy selfishness with me.

Glad to hear the news makes you happy Crazydude. Like the main character in the western series Maverick would say, "one should try to spread happyness as he goes through life".

Anyone truly liking the guide and what it does to help level the playing field and bring the game back to a player vs. player game instead of a PC and insider info vs. same game should add the link to the guide in their signature. Because quite frankly, anyone saying they like it who doesn't help spread the word around a bit is being selfish as well.

The forums won't quite be the same m8. You were always available to offer advice to those asking. You have worked your **** off compiling the Guide for Complete Users for others to benefit from. I wish you could work out your differences here. But, there are other flight sim forums that will benefit from your knowledge I am sure. You sure have helped me tremendously, and I am truly thankful. I will be honored to attach the link to the guide to my signature. But my wish is that you would have a change of heart and stick around here. If not, and for whatever reasons you have, I do give you my support. You are a good man m8. If ever I can do anything for you, don't hesitate to get in touch. I S! you!

When I helped test one version ( I only did it once), we setup a forum, we posted our results, we had agenda's.

We listed tons of stuff - if we didn't know, we listed it anyway.

We had our 'lead' compile all the results, and put it together in a nice deliverable package for review - we did this for each and every iteration.

Where did you get your misconceptions from? And again, I don't think you understand - the beta tester simply can report - he doesn't write the code.

So, tell me - how do you know the beta tester didn't report the spawn bug? Got the document?

True, my beliefs about the beta testers lacks complete documentation, but how could I ever be expected to produce such documentation if I am not alloweed to see it in the first place? I doubt Oleg would release a patch with a known bug and not disclose it. He's delayed releases before for just such reasons. What I have first person observed was the testing. The testing session lasted less than 10 minutes and the next moring, the patch was released. I'm glad that beta tester let me ghost his PC that night. He thought he was impressing me and he was right; he did impresss me, but not as he intended!

Uh, oh, here I go being Mr Popularity again.

Hey, Lucky, can I talk seriously here a moment? You may have the greatest guide ever, and may be a great guy, and maybe you've just had enough and are all done with things here, and so on and so on.

But, let me tell you a thing about Human Beings.

Hitting them over the head about what they should like, should do, and should think is going to make them resent you at best, and at worst, make them of the opposite opinion you are trying to force feed them.

Maybe you don't see what you're doing in this thread as that, but read your own posts in this thread brother, it's like a soap opera. I am sorry to say that all I can see is a thread that is an ode to yourself, and about what great things you've done, and what lousy things others have done.

This reminds me of the little kid fantasy where the angry little boy dreams of seeing his own funeral- "then they'll be sorry".

Please understand that if I wanted to just make fun of you or insult you I am well equipped to do that and I am adept at it. I am not trying to do that at all here.

I am just pointing out that I really think you're going about getting your message across in the worst way possible. Instead of your message being - "hey- something is awfully wrong here and it needs to be changed", you're saying "here's your chance to say good-bye to me, and this is your last chance". If you want to talk about selfishness, consider how you are presenting yourself. It can be seen as very self-indulgent and selfish. You can get your point across so much more effectively. Think it over.

and unlike Hunter82, I won't let the door kick me in the @ss on the way out. If you want to know the reasons why, e-mail me because I've already respopnded to others. If you could care less, fine too because the world wasn't made to serve me just the way I want it. I'd read my original posting at the topic again. Read how I say it is not about me, but about not getting so tight a little group of sphincters that we shut off any new light coming in. In fact, let me copy and paste it here in case you miss it again...

"{The guide, with the exception of my psychotic diatribe on heating and power issues does not have a single, original Luckyboy idea in it. The information is the proven results from mostly contributions from IL-2 FB Community Help forum. Calling that statement self absorpbed or self serving won't make it.

Am I the one most in need of an enema here? Probably, but either way, the last of the water cooling parts are supposed to be here by tommorow and within a week or two, I'll have the water cooling report for everyone and it will be the last post you ever see from me in UBI forums.

Resent me? I could care less if they do. No matter what you do in this life, there will be small minded responses from those less secure in their humanity. My post here isn't about my leaving the forum. It is a warning that if the community does not get their collective act together, Pacific fighters will probably be the last major release of a flight sim game you will see in a long time. I know small minds will laugh at this thinking because they bought it enough other people did so to keep it going. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Believe what you like about my motives, I'm too tired to care anymore.

I don't care why he's leaving, that's why. I don't give one dead rat a$$. I hate the tearful farewell routine from ANYbody. There's no need. It's a little kid tantrum as far as I'm concerned.

What am I assuming? He's your buddy or something, great, but am I the only one who reads words and gets more than just the bare info the message contains? The way you express your ideas means as much as the idea does most times. I'm sorry but I read between the lines pretty well, and the jist of this is that he's feeling sorry for himself and asking everyone else to as well.

You'd think he was dying or something, but he's not, he plans to be around, not just here. He's taking his ball and going home. great, whatever, do what you have to. But I'm not gonna cry

Hi, I was wondering, what do you have again beta testers?

LuckyBoy1
09-18-2004, 05:48 PM
If you've seen the results of many of the patches, especially lately, you wouldn't ask that question. From exploding P-51's to bomb loadouts on the P-47 to spawn bugs and sound bus that were virtually universal in their affect on almost everyone's PC, it is clear that this is more than arrogance on Oleg and the gang or poor customer service on the part of UBI. I was alowed to ghost a beta testers computer. I watched the process and it is a paintscheme fanboy club. They have their own special agenda and interests and I guess, fair enough, to one degree or another, I guess we all can be acused of that. Still, it was an eye opener to see them not run the same tracks under the same conditions more than twice in a row. Nope, not beta testing, just fanboy nonsense that hurts the game.

Because I was watching an online test between beta testers, I saw what they were all doing, so yes, to that dregree and for that one time, I'm about as much of an authority as you are going to find.

More than one beta tester has let the version loose before its time.

Now with an actual index & more fiber! It is newer & and even more improved! It's Luckyboy's Guide For Complete Users!...

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Try turning the AI difficulty up, they arn't as dumb then (but still no where near as good as a real person)

Luckyboy,

Your knowledge of beta testing is highly deficient.

I have the whole picture somewhere, I'll try to find it. I am suspecting that she's a racer groupie or Jimmy's significant other. She's um, casting eyes on him if I recall. And yes, she is attractive. Why should mentioning it be offensive? Being attractive isn't a crime, pointing it out shouldn't be either...

As far as the thread goes-
Jeez, if the guy wants to leave, why is he suddenly a loser? He does a fair bit for the flight sim community by making a user's guide and all...I don't dislike him, I just can't understand the reasoning behind this farewell! Something else is going on. That's his business.
No need to bash him.
