I've read alot of posts here lately stateing that the UBI FB forms are not what they use to be. Mods treat members as children, ban them, all the old timers are leaveing, and there are nothing but whinners here now .

This is a privately owned fourm and freedom of speach is not nessasarily an option, understandably. UBI is a business and we are their customers. As customers we do deserve a quality product.

If the mods don't lock this thread LOL. I was wondering how every one feels about the current state of their product IL2 Foregotten Battles Official Website/Fourms ?

If you have 5 accounts it doesn`t mean that mods think that you are 5 different people.
Treat people like children? Maybe because people act like children sometimes? You wanna be a mod and see how you do? But i have to warn you, being a mod is not just having a ban stick, it`s a job and it takes away from my flying and other things that i like to do... you want it?

Well said CrazyIvan, if they treat you like children its because they're acting like children.

I think the quality of the forums is for the most part spot-on. Its some of the people who frequent them I have problems with - and the answer to that is simple, if ya dont post cr@p, then you wont get locked. People being treated like children? so be it - if thats hoew they act then thats how they deserve to be treated. Overall I think this is a great place although the whiners dont do it any favours http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif unfortunately as in life, there's always someone who thinks they know better than everyone else (rightly or wrongly) and they just have to articulate this - sometimes rather innartuiculately if you know what I mean http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I lurked in these forums for months before I decided to make my first post.

Are these forums the same as a year ago? definitely not. In some ways they're better in some ways they're worse. The bottom line is these forums are what WE, as a community, make them. The presence and contributions of some posters are certainly cause for concern, both among the general community as well as the mods.

Ivan and Tully do a fine job of moderating these forums and for the most part they are still an interesting, valuable source for the FB addicted.

I have been reading this Forum since I bought the Original IL-2 the first week it was in the US back in 2001 and there were many great people on here that were willing to help myself and other's with many newbie Questions and never did you feel Intimidated not to post any type of question no matter how rediculess it was.
THEN! came the DARK days and thats when several people joined who's whole intend was to disrupt the forum and the help that was being given by using Intimidation and flamming to the point that many great people left and know one wanted to post . And thats when our present group of Moderators took controll and did a great Job of making it a very useful and friendly place to post again . So I feel they are doing a great job . Have a Great Day - JK-1

The one subject matter I've seen that can divide members, sometimes beyond repair, is politics/nation bashing. Its also an area of discussion difficult to avoid, given the historical/political nature of Fb. Its a fine line Ivan and Tully have to play making decisions what to allow and what not. Members have to understand it takes quite some time coming here to appreciate the difficulties involved, not just a few months . I think most of the problems are from those who haven't been here long enough and are either ignorant or immature accepting limitations on speech and ability to control it. They don't know the days when almost everything was allowed and this was truly the Ubi zoo. The Mods have cleaned up most of it now and are more consistent than ever. They're not perfect, but better than any time I've been here.

This is the only IL-2 forum where I post, but I visit others (simhq, netwings, etc.) and the reputation of the UBI forums there is low, but I admit, I don't see it. No forum is immune to whines and also to butt-kissers. But I've learned much in these forums from people more knowledgable on WW2 avaiation than myself, and I've also had fun in the less serious threads.

Trolls and whines are unavoidable, but I let the mods handle them and ignore them for the most part.

Oh, and it's funny how when someone is in danger of being banned they turn into civil rights lawyers talking about "freedom of speech this, freedom of speech that". This is a private forum. The only constitution that applies here is the Terms of Use agreement you clicked I ACCEPT when you registered.

Simple rules to live by dont post anything that involves Religion, or Politics. No need to have either of them brought up here anyway.

And remember everything you need to know you learned in Kindergarten. 1. Be Kind 2.Share your toys. 3 Treat others how you want to be treated.

And as far as being a Mod business goes its not mandatory. You volunteered to do it. And since you did you decided to do it to the best of your abilities. So keep up the good work. And if you ask me they need more Mods to lighten the load of the 2 we have (Or is it 3)

People new to the game or new to online play will always have some concerns about what they see and not everyone is articulate and skilled at research.

Unlike the other forums for this game that are run by dedicated simmers for dedicated simmers, this board is the public face of the publisher and is the first port of call for all those new to the genre or this example of the genre. Consequently many of those posting here will (at least at first) be comparitively un-informed about the limitations that PC performance still places on flight sims and about a lot of the aircraft that are simulated.

As is human nature, a significant proportion either don't know how to or wont bother to see if the information they're interested in has been posted before, so we have a larger proportion than the other forums of "n3\/\/b" questions. Fortunately we also have a solid community of people interested in fostering newcomers to flight simming and IL2.

That's it for the moment. VIP's aren't mods, though they're mostly ex-mods (retired).

Ubi's moderators are mostly assigned powers for their own boards only. DayGlow is busy enough with his own herd of jet fume affected posters, he doesn't need the extra load of riding herd here as well http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've lurked for a little over a year, just started posting recently (last few months). There seems to be increasing tension that kind of cycles through throughout the year, usually corresponding with a patch release or something. Most of the negativity is from the trolls.

I thing the moderators do a great job and would hate to see them leave.

One year ago the situation was much, much worse.

We still had the 1.0 product, the patch was nowhere to be seen (although everybody was looking forward to it), fights over n00biness / uberness of this and that plane ran rampant (see the "n00biecane" and the indestructible Rata), there was the 190 forward view monster thread..

Now perhaps it's become evident that we don't have much more to expect as far as development goes, so no point in pushing any agenda?

We've had a few great patches, many new planes, new maps, an addon and its patch.. I hope that most if not all people are now happy FB campers, because otherwise they'd better stop playing the game altogether.. It is not going to improve drastically until BoB.

I'd venture to say everything is quieter than ever here.

All;

I love it here. I spend a great deal of time here reading posts. I read just about every single thread at least once. I don't post all that much, but I love reading the stuff. There's so much knowledge here.

Granted, you sometimes have to wade through biases regarding planes, etc. And sometimes you have to deal with posts that aren't great, but it's not a big deal. I do both at work, so it's not a big deal.

As far as the mods go, they generally do a pretty good job. I'm not saying that I agree with every decision they make, but it's a tough job. And sometimes they have to make the hard decisions. I had a post of mine deleted, and while I think that I may have made a mistake, I didn't appreciate the way it was handled. But, that's their job, and I respect that.

Additionally, I appreciate the fact that they usually leave OT stuff here for us to read. As Ivan stated recently, he leaves it because it is often interesting. But I agree with them when they lock threads dealing with politics or ignorance or bigotry, because most people can't handle discussing controversy maturely. So it must be done.

Would I want the job? Heck yeah. Why? Because I really love this community and want to see it maintain the quality and value it has had for me over the past few years. I've never made a formal inquiry about it because I'm not sure how much time it would require, and I would want to give it the time it deserved. Plus, I doubt that I'd be qualified.

Bottom line: I like it here. I enjoy coming here and spending the time to read posts by intelligent, articulate people. Sure it's a game, but gosh darn it, it's our game...and our community.

I agree with that. Matter of fact, I think the mods would have a much easier time of it by just saying fuggit and deleting these "why can't we do that?" post right off the bat and be done with it.

Who cares what's in these fools heads that make them think they HAVE to be heard, especially when all they want to do is BE HEARD, so that they can cause a fart storm?

I personnaly don't care to see someones grey matter and hope they understand this too. Not trying to be insensitive (my tummy hurts) or too blatant, but what I see here lately almost seems like the beginning of a revolution.

All these dweebs with no lives interrupting an otherwise excellent, and excellently run forum with their 'thoughts'. SCREW THEIR THOUGHTS if they are nothing more than what we are seeing here, as originally posted, and especially those thoughts that keeps threads like this alive.

Mods, do not be intimidated by these folk that enjoy this type of drama, that get a kick when they can enhance? it. Confront them by locking/banning the 'it's my right idiots' that keep distracting from these forums. And yes, this **** is a distraction, though sometimes it's quite entertaining too. I think the trend is becoming way too popular lately though, and the typical subject for this **** way more sensitive.

Screw'em. You can do that ya know.

There were days 1 year to 1 and 1/2 years back that if you posted something as simple as I enjoy flying the....... your butt was fuel for the fire and flamer(ers) were out of control.

I still enjoy being part of a place where people can ask something as easy as how do I get my new skin dl to show in game or where is a good place to find stick settings and they get answered, not ridiculed by fighter jerks who like to pretend they were born with that info tatto'd on their a$$ cheeks.

I can't say I've noticed a locked thread that shouldn't have been, there are forums around that have extremely strict posting rules and will not only lock ya post immediatley at the slightest infraction but give you an embarasingly wordy and badly spelled explanation as to why...
Compared to that mods here are very fair.
I say keep up the good work, If it wasn't for this forum I would have gave up on IL-2 a looong time ago, and I hope this forum stays around for a looong time to come...

Can always get an answer to practically any question related to either IL2 or WWII in general on here, and generally pretty quickly too. Awful lot of knowledge on these boards and that's a good thing. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I only post now and then when I feel strongly about some issue or comment, but I visit the forum every day. I have been amused enlightend and educated by much of what I have found here. This sim would not be what it has become without the friendly sharing community that can be found here. Just remember every sea has a few sharks.

All I can say is, if you think these forums are bad, you don't visit many forums. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

It wasnt so long ago that threads had to be locked left right and centre. Now the mods only have to lock threads when they feel their authority is not being adhered to irrespective of the topic. So in general,I think things are better. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/1072.gif

Lots of spirited debate, pretty good tech suggestions, humor, art, history data, well-intentioned moderators. What's not to like?

These forums are the best of any kind that I have encountered. There are interesting and knowledgeable people with lots to say. Every day I learn something new.

The moderators do a great job, they allow enough room to have a natter but won't tollerate any nonsense. That's good. Without that it would just descend into anarchy, especially when there are so many intelligent/talented (and not so intelligent/talented) participants.

Ultimately, we're all united in our interest/fascination/addiction to the IL2 games/sims.

Yeah man... like posting and reading stuff here.
