I'm old enough to remember that US companies wanted to build an SST in the early 70's but the moron environmentalists stopped it. Pressure from them about pollution and noise caused the FAA and the Environmental Protection Agency to limit what airports the SSt's could fly into and that choked off demand. I guess the pollution and noise didn't matter if it was just limited to New York and Miami. Boeing and Lockheed both were working on SST designs at the time.

I often think the whole world is out to get me, but then I remember that some of the smaller nations are neutral.

i'd have to agree taylor...darn shame. leave it to the dagnets (a collective term for the "negativity negativiters")...and i'd fer sure like to see the company's annual P&L statements before i'd proclaim "market demand".

The SST's downfall wasn't all economics.

Bump, Tony. I remember years back on fishing boat off the coast of New Jersey hearing a big boom. we looked up and there she was. The Concorde. A sight I'll remember always! Acouple years later I was making delivery near JFK in New York and I had to pull over to watch a Concorde on final. Another awesome sight never to be seen again. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one!
