So...obviously, with the carriers now, we'll have AI planes landing on carriers.

Duh. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

But...I do wonder...will it be possible for "mistakes?" I mean, is it possible for them to crash onto the deck if heavily damaged?
Several times in IL2:FB I've seen AI planes with engines down or with heavy damage land funny or in front of the runway.

What if this were to happen, or be incorporated differently in PF?

Hopefully, simply touching the deck with your belly won't set you ablaze or make you explode...

im not sure. in one of the videos of a corsair landing, it catches the wire, and comes crashing down. Its tail and wing come off, and then it explodes. I think it would have looked better without exploding. I hope this is fixed in final version.

I suspect that it has to do with the amount of impact that you hit the deck with. We know we can belly land on land and at sea without exploding as long as we hit gently enough.

I haven't seen the video of the corsair crashing the traps, but it was probably because it was slammed to the deck by the cable.

But I hope that not an entire flight get heavily damaged, or will loss the Carrier http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A must for AI: when heavily damaged and with no posibilities of land the aircraft with success (as soon they didn`t get more damaged when going to land, ie engine stop), they should bail out nearby to avoid damage the carrier or the airplanes parked.

Flaker 2.51 had AI jets that every once in a while would hit the corner of carrier Kuznhetov and explode. A nice touch I thought.

Now I feel embarassed. No I DO NOT play Flaker 2.51, but I still play DOS Flaker 1.0 and Master of Orion I on my DOS computer. The only "modern" game I have is teh FB. I am very hard to sell to.

One of the big complaints about CFS2 was that a hard landing usually meant exploding. There are many instances where a pilot hit the deck too hard and his plane would come apart, but did not explode. It would sure be nice if PF is more tolerant of the hard hits.

It would also be nice to see players spawn into a plane that isn't spotted for TO (either on a runway, or CV deck). Ideally, if you made a mission with 10 fighters, 10 dive bombers and 10 torpedo bombers, the planes would be spotted all the way to the rear of the CV jammed together with wings folded if need be, then planes would taxi to a ready spot, then TO.

Same upon landing, I wouyld hope the "disappearing planes after landing" stuff would be fixed so that when planes land, they taxi to the front in front of the crash net and park (allowing for Midway style lucky attacks on planes gassed up and ready to go, or otherwise on deck).

I've got a feeiling that the AI's will have a better success rate of recovery on carrier decks than we will. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

Or do what people didin real life, fly low and slow, and knock down a damaged gear on the side of thehull, then go round and land again. Impossible to do in a sim, i assume, especially in AI
