I was wondering how the telescopic sights found on early IJAAF fighters like the Ki-27 and the Ki-43-1 will be implemented in the sim?
Not forgetting that the D3A Val and D4Y Judy also sported similar bomb/gunsights.
They had a go in the old sim Pacific Air War 1942 but the way they were done wasn't very successful, proving more of a hindrance than a help.
In real life the sights were not unlike a telescopic sight on a rifle. The pilot actually had to lean forward in the cockpit and put his eye up against the scope (the reason IJAAF fighter aircraft only had lap seat belts) and sight on the target. This presumably made for more accurate longe range shooting but the limited field of view also pretty much ruled out anything but the smallest angle deflection shots.

Same way they're done in bombardier positions now. Press Ctrl-F1 and be sent into a zoomed in gunsight view in a black cirle outline.

Not sure about Japanese pilots, but I know that Russian pilots with such gunsights found them so restrictive and downright dangerous during maneuvres that they preferred to shoot with no gunsight, just using tracers for aiming.

Wow! Get a sniper Scope on a F2A-3? Sure hope it improves my shooting ratio. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Saburo Sakai will be overmodelled http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

O, how I want to hold you,
To feel your breath
And hear your laughter in my ears.
To look into your eyes
And see myself in there.
Caress you with my lips.
To hold your hands in mine
And find the hidden smile in your dimple
That makes you irresistible
And stops the breathing in my chest.
To be with you when you are weeping,
To wipe away the tears and take away the sorrow.
To watch you while you are sleeping
Like there is no tomorrow.

And with a tender kiss to wake you up.
